Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Poetry Club!

Poetry Club!

I'm pretty sure we already had one of these but I can't find the thread to resurrect it, so I'm making a new one. There is only one rule: be nice when you criticize (I don't even have to say that here) Anyways, here is a poem (I think it can be qualified as one!) of my own.

Do you ever look up at the sky and wonder

Why am I here?

What is my purpose on this earth?

Will I ever find my way?

The universe is so huge

and I've only seen a tiny piece of it.

There are a million drops of water in a fishtank

Trillions upon trillions of tiny molecules floating around in the sea

More grains of sand than could ever be counted

An infinite number of stars; those detected and undiscovered.

When I look up into the endless depths of the sky

Or down into the never-ending abyss, as you might call it

I feel

Insignificant

Trivial

Unimportant

And I know that I am

I'll live a short life compared to how long the universe will last

I will not do anything that will be remembered

But

When I look up at those stars

I hope

I dream

I wonder if

Life isn't so meaningless after all?

PLEASE criticize! I am not too good at poetry, and would like some suggestions if you have them. Thank you!

NO. We can't let this thread die. While I was unable to have access to the internet, I wrote 4 more bits of poetry. Here is one that hopefully will help top the thread more.

Turning Back Time

Many wish to turn back time

Fix mistakes

Say goodbye

Two turns back

Years of faults

Created in reverse to

Spend more time

Save your loved ones

Yet, if doing so

That first step

First wish, first star

Greatest memory

Closest friend

Will have never been

One will look and say

"I never said those words again"

Yet

Tears will still fall

Death will touch you heart

And words will be spoken

That should never been

For turning back time

Is time itself, once again

Everyone on here is so good at poetry! here's a poem I wrote!

Tree

~~~
When I was young,
I planted you here,
With hopes that you would rise like an angel,
Brushing the sky with your green wing-like leaves.
When I was young,
I loved you here,
Kissing you like a loving mother,
Hugging you like a real, live friend.
When I was young,
I played with you here.
I would climb your branches and swing from them,
Like a monkey, jumping around you.
So maybe that's why
It's strange to come back,
To this little house, and see you... gone.
A stump, with stumps around you, dead.
Lost, gone, dead. That's how I feel now.
That's how you are now. I'm sorry, tree,
for now taking better care of you.
But remember, tree, that I love you,
And that I always will, dear tree.
I love that, Alexandra! It reminds me of a shorter poem I wrote a few years ago about a tree. Great work!
Here is a longer sentenced one I wrote last night while listening to Beethoven (Moonlight). I will keep on posting to keep this thread alive, but I really hope someone else posts soon!
Keys of the Night
Peaceful music fills your ears
A simple lullaby to pacify the mind
A soft clicking of fingers on keys
One two, one two
Following the beat
It brings back the memory
Of the wolf's call in the frozen moon's light
Sound so clear, calling you home
To wild fantasies of
Werewolves and faeries
As they prowl our world
By moonlight, free
Keys quicken your heartbeat
As music slip from your fingers
The vision fades
But your belief remains
To the werewolves' cry
And faeries' mischievious minds
As the keys end the night
Okay, so I'm topping this as Ashlee G. Unfortunately, we haven't had many posts on this thread, so I've been working to keep it alive. I know everyone's been really busy with camps and whatnot, so I'll just keep on topping this until people return.
The BIG 100th Comment:
Let's not let this thread die!
Whoops, sorry. I've been really busy with other writing, too busy to write poetry. But now I have 101 pages of my current story, and here's a poem I'm coming up with on the spot. (The cat in the poem is the one that's sitting right behind me now!)
The cat sleeps
On the cozy carpet
Dreaming, perhaps,
Of mice and squirrels
Her pink nose twitches
She is chasing them in her dreams
Across sunny yards
Her black-and-white tail flicks back and forth
Back and forth
Back and forth
It seems that she
Is no longer our friend's cat that we are taking care of
But our cat
That loves us
As I scratch her behind her ears
She curls up in a ball,
Purring
She tucks her tail underneath her chin
Flicks her ears
Goes back to sleep
What a wondrous animal
Cozy and loving pet one moment,
Fierce and independant hunter the next
Cats
Are
Awesome
Nice ending to that one! It caught me off guard for a moment. And it's okay, I know you and everyone else have been really busy. Hmm... let me look through my Book of Poems to see if I have one... Ah yes, this one I wrote on the 19th. It was when I was sort of angry at world problems, you can probably tell.
Counting up Problems
How can the world
Sit by
As our own people fall?
One count, two count
Three count more
A birthday passes
Not a smile more
In a world full
Of people where
Two aren't seen
The same
Where names and gold
Determine one's fate
How can we sit idol
As the floor falls from
Beneath out feet?
The answer lies
In the problem itself
One's name and heart
Make it so
