The Harry Potter
Chatterbox: Blab About Books
The Harry Potter era is almost up!!
I think we all know, a new era is dawning, Percy Jackson and the Olympians!
The Percy Jackson
series is possibly the BEST series ever written!
The first book, The Lightning Theif,
is about Percy Jackson the kid who always gets into trouble. He finds out that he is not an ordinary kid -- he's the son of
Poseidon!
Zeus' Bolt has been stolen and who gets the blame? Percy, the
only living offspring of the Big Three (Zeus, Poseidon and Hades). Now he goes on a quest to find the Bolt and
prove that he is not the Lightning Theif with the help of his friends
Grover and Annabeth. But if Percy didn't steal the Bolt, then who did?
Percy Jackson is the new Harry Potter! Though, Harry Potter still has
magnificent and majestic great books, Percy Jackson is taking over!
JK Rowling, is still a great author, and will be known throughout history as "One of the greatest authors of all times", Rick Riorden is now taking her place.
We all know it!! You may have read the Potter books, and say they are better, they are great, but many of us agree, Jackson is the new Potter.
Don't deny it. You may not be a fan of the Olympian books, but you know, Percy Jackson is the new hit!!
Though, Harry Potter will stay in the hearts of many, it will never die
off, or become out-of-fashion, Percy Jackson is taking over.

Kind of random, but I'm reading The Lighting Theif right now...!

I think everyone needs to calm down. I don't think anyone meant to be rude here.
Vida, please don't leave. I hope I'm not asking too much, and you of course don't have to do this, but you've kind of been... saying you might leave very often, and then you don't. While I don't want you to leave, maybe the next time you consider leaving, you shouldn't mention it unless you're certain that's what you want to do. The thing is, it gets us worried when you say you're leavving, because we think you actually might. (Also, as a tip, if you ever do leave the CB because of what someone said, it might be best not to mention that that's why; I imagine they'd feel really, really bad about it. You don't have to take my advice, though).
R~D, I do think I should let you know that the magic in HP isn't at all like the pagan magic that people expect; they're never mentioned as worshipping pagan gods (The characters are actually Christian, at least to the extent that they celebrate Christmas, and there was a quote from the Bible on Ariana Dumbledore's grave, though not many people recognize it.), there's no sacrifice (well, only by evil characters, and it is made clear that it is wrong and unnecessary, though I can't say the same for the rest of magic) (except for self-sacrifice, of course, as in dying to save someone you love, but that's not the same at all), there's none of the things you mentioned that were wrong about magic, and there are actually a lot of good morals that certainly agree with Christianity. The things like confusion are generally just the movies. Maybe a young child would be confused by the magic and things, but I wasn't, and I was 8 when I read the first few books (I stopped due to fright, but I read the rest when I was 10 with no problems). Then again, I also read the entire Bible at 8... But actually, that might also be confusing for young children, because some things that were morally right in ancient times are not at the moment... Well, really, there are all sorts of things in the world that would confuse young children's morals. There isn't much point in holding back sometthing like Harry Potter; it isn't much more confusing than any other book... I'm actually not trying to argue, just let you know what I think, because you haven't actually read the books, so you only know what you've heard about it...

@Ima: You're so nice. :) You have a great way of saying things in a way that doesn't offend people at all! Okay, I totally get what you're saying. Very reasurring! I guess I better read them soon! :D

Really? Thank you! I'm glad. Believe me, in real life, I'm definitely not able to do that; when I don't have a lot of time to think about what I'm going to say, people have often thought I was being rude and argumentative when I'm really just trying to understand their point of view. Maybe that's why I'm just extra-careful online; if I can prevent that from happening in any way, I really want to, so I'm just really careful in what I say here. I can't really do that in real life because I already take a really long time to put my thoughts into words and can't afford to make the person wait much longer just so I can think of the best way of putting something. Anyway, I'm just glad I can have time for that here. :)

It is very difficult to say things in real life. You have so little time to think and sometimes things just pop out! And then you sound stupid... but, yes, you would never offend me, just by the way you word things.:)
(March 11, 2011 - 6:53 pm)
Yes yes, but this time, I am serious about leaving. If someone else says one more rude thing, I think I am going to pop like a balloon that is too full of air, and LEAVE.
I realize, I have been saying I am going to leave a lot because, well I don't want to leave.
Just this thread IS OFFCIALLY OVER!!
Go to the depth of Tartarus thread!! (JK, I thought that might make you laugh).
I want us all to vow not to post on this thread anymore, let it go to the back...
(March 12, 2011 - 1:36 pm)
@ Annoyed: Well, I think she's read them before but I really don't know... And I think you're ~Sam~.
(March 11, 2011 - 1:36 am)
Who's ~Sam~? Oh wait, ya I know who she is, kinda, and no I'm not her.
(March 11, 2011 - 4:20 pm)
Didn't Sam turn out to be SMS?
Aetc says uawy. Apparently, he wants me to go away...
(March 11, 2011 - 11:01 pm)
@ Annoyed-- I'm stumped..
(March 12, 2011 - 2:29 am)
I've been, uh, watching this thread for a while, and now I have a question, whos SMS? I don't think I've ever said anything about them, or being them. Well, I don't know. But Elizabeth, I am definitely NOT Annoyed. No offense to her, but I don't think you should have reacted so strongly. I definitely like the HP books better than the PJ books, but I don't think I'd ever go as far as Annoyed.
(March 13, 2011 - 10:48 pm)
Oh Geez, no, no, ~Sam~ is NOT SMS. Sam, SMS... uh, well, she made things on the CB difficult for us by telling a complete lie about her self, making up a twin sister (whom she posted as) and a brother they were adopting from Japan and a whole lot of stuff that wasn't true. She apologize for it evnetually and even though we forgave her, she decided to quit. BUT, then she came on as other newcomers (hiding her identity, but most of us could tell it was her because the way she wrote was unique) so we grew cautious and started to blame most newcomers as being SMS, and we might have scared some people who weren't SMS off.... let's just say it was a mess. But, yeah, I know you're not SMS. :)
Well, Annoyed and I both apologized, so... I think it's done.

I'm so sorry! I got mixed up! I honestly wasn't thinking of you at all! I was thinking of someone else SMS had been whose name started with S; I don't remember exactly what it was, but I honestly never suspectied you of not being who you said you were; I was really thinking of someone else! Just... Let's forget all this. Please.
(March 14, 2011 - 12:02 pm)
Sorry Sam!!
(March 14, 2011 - 12:40 am)
@Ima, oh we know you didn't mean to offend, it's totally okay. I'm sure Sam isn't offended. I know, SMS's name did start with an S, didn't it? No, but it's totally fine.
(March 14, 2011 - 4:34 pm)
Ya it's fine, really Ima. I just don't want to be mistaken as someone I'm not. Especially not (from what I've heard) SMS. I just think we should forget about all this. Vida, I'd advise you not to post this again, seeing as it brought up so many problems and arguments. (R~D~ what do you mean by "a unique style of writing?)
