The Harry Potter

Chatterbox: Blab About Books

Percy Jackson and the Olympians
The Harry Potter...

The Harry Potter era is almost up!!

I think we all know, a new era is dawning, Percy Jackson and the Olympians!

The Percy Jackson
series is possibly the BEST series ever written!

The first book, The Lightning Theif,
is about Percy Jackson the kid who always gets into trouble. He finds out that he is not an ordinary kid -- he's the son of
Poseidon!

Zeus' Bolt has been stolen and who gets the blame? Percy, the
only living offspring of the Big Three (Zeus, Poseidon and Hades). Now he goes on a quest to find the Bolt and
prove that he is not the Lightning Theif with the help of his friends
Grover and Annabeth. But if Percy didn't steal the Bolt, then who did?

Percy Jackson is the new Harry Potter! Though, Harry Potter still has
magnificent and majestic great books, Percy Jackson is taking over!

JK Rowling, is still a great author, and will be known throughout history as "One of the greatest authors of all times", Rick Riorden is now taking her place.

We all know it!! You may have read the Potter books, and say they are better, they are great, but many of us agree, Jackson is the new Potter.

Don't deny it. You may not be a fan of the Olympian books, but you know, Percy Jackson is the new hit!!

Though, Harry Potter will stay in the hearts of many, it will never die
off, or become out-of-fashion, Percy Jackson is taking over.

Yes, please explain! And with the thing I said about HP and PJ what I mean is, is that they're kind of 10+. For example I have a little sister and I don't think she should read them yet. I didn't mean to make Annoyed mad.

Yeah, I think Annoyed meant to disagree with me.  Well, say what you want, but I know even after I've read them, I'll still think PJ is more appropriate, simply because I don't beleive or like to read about witchcraft and all that.  That's why I think youngsters shouldn't read HP... because fillling their heads with witchcraft and Harry doing bad to do good is confusing at a young age.  Once again, I HAVEN'T read the books.  I'm taking off of the movies, listening to my friend talk hours and hours about them (by all I know from her, you'd think I had read the books) and reading articles about them.  I'm in no way whatsoever saying PJ is better. But it might be better for Vida. HP's writing is way more mature and well-written.  (that's from skimming through and reading random chapters...) I like what Ima said :)  Most people on here read way above their reading level and seem to be brilliant.  So, that makes sense. :)

The movies are not very close to the books.

Sorry, Robyn, but I completely disagree. For Vida's age PJ and HP is fine both have very little violence(from my standards). I don't really get your witchcraft argument...? And... Oh no! I forgot what I wanted to say! Oops. :) Oh now I remember. You can't really judge Harry off the movies because they are VERY different. You really can't judge them by the movies.

None of this material was meant to offend or annoy anyone!

:)  Everyone has their own opinions. Yeah, like I said, I really have no right to argue! The movies are kinda strange, very confusing and a little bit gross... but everyone says the books aren't like that, so I believe them!  Well, witchcraft, no matter which way it's used (good or bad) is evil.  There are people out there who worship the devil and nasty things like that, and they believe in witchcraft.  There's just a whole... thing that encricles witchcraft (like people used to get executed for possibly being witches.  And witchcraft used to talk to spirits or bring people back from the dead) and it's all just wrong. I don't have anything against reading it (please don't think I'm so stuck-up or think I'm too holy to read this stuff... I'm soooooooooo not) I just have a thing against witchcraft.  And really young children aren't as good as knowing right from wrong, and may not understand that all the magic in HP is not awesome, but is fake, unreal.  I don't know.  This was just one of my excuses as to why I don't want to read them, but don't worry, I think I will soon!

Yes, please read them and get back to me on that! :) I understand your view on witchcraft and I would NEVER think you were stuck up!!

Ok, I'll explain.

When I was about 9 and I wrote a
story I thought my friends would enjoy. I showed my friend the story and
she said that first person is for little kids.

After that I just... I don't know, stopped writing, and stopped liking first person.

When I think of first person, I think of her and I, and when I was in third grade. So I think of third graders.

Ok, Vida. You may be getting mad right now so take a few deep breaths. So, in answer to your post about first person. I would say your friend doesn't write much because 1st person IS NOT for babies. I believe there are quite a few classics in 1st person so don't let what she said ruin your writing career!

Honestly, Vida, anyone under my age is considered YOUNGER then me.  You're 11!  Just because you can read at a higher level then normal, doesn't mean you should be able to read things that are inappropriate for your age.  If someone looked old enough to drive, that doesn't mean they can.  Yes, I am three years older then you, and that is a decent amount.  I'm old enough to officially watch PG-13 movies.  And Most books are for ages 8-12 or 12+.  I can officially read the 12+.  I turn 15 in May and then I get to start drivers ed.  So yeah, it's a pretty big difference.  But I was actually talking about to Annoyed because it had said it'd read the books when it was 8, (saying "it" because I'm unaware of the gender of Annoyed) and young children in general. I don't understand that when everytime I come to your defense (Justin Bieber thread and this one) you lash out at me.  I find THAT annoying.  And if you read my comments thoroughly, you'll se I agree with you on the fact that sorcery and witchcraft is bad, that PJ seems to be a better book for you and something you'd like better, and that it was just fine that you made a thread like this.  I never said anything to offend you, and now I'm offended that you always get mad at me for saying nothing at all.  Admins, her posts to me were just like this.  Please try to leave this... uneditted. :)

I'M A GIRL! For one thing. And say whatever you want about HP and PJ. Witchcraft and violence. Sure. You do realise that the PJ movie had blood and knives and swords, and NONE of HP movies have real blood or swords or knives. And every kid I know 7 & up has seen at least the first HP movie. But none 7 & up have seen the PJ movie. And sorry Elisabeth I was disagreeing with R~D~, not you.  And I'm pretty sure Vida ment to say that PJ is better than HP in her opinion. It also says she's reading The Lightning Theif, which makes me think that she's making this claim without actually finishing the first book. So what happens if she really likes the begining and feels all this about it, but she ends up hating the ending?  Just asking. Admins please don't take anything out of this post. It's nothing bad, and I think Vida should hear my opinion.

Guys (everyone, not just "Annoyed"), please keep your posts polite and respectful. CB is a place where all opinions should be heard, but we don't need to repeatedly state the same one again and again. In discussions such as these, your statements and rebuttals should be more about the topic of the thread than the person you disagree with. Thanks. --Admin

@Elizabeth M.: Thank you.  You made me feel better about this whole thing. I honestly did not mean to offend anyone, and I'm totally okay with people disagreeing with me. @Annoyed: You make good points, and my comment to you wasn't mad or anything.  I was just saying that it's okay for Vida to like this book. But, you saying that no one has seen the PJ movies... well, that's because it STINKS!  And is not in the least bit popular.  But, please, I'm not angry at you, and I hope you're not angry at me.

Admins, are you not going to post any of my comment to Vida?  The beginning, at least, was quite appropriate and nice.  Her comment to me was mean and talking about me (the person she was disagreeing with), but, understandably, stating her opinion, and my comment was doing the exact same.  So, if you could please, *bats eyelashes* post any of it that you find okay, because I really would prefer not to rewrite something else, and it would only seem fair.    And, to show you I'm listening to what you said, I'm sorry I was annoying and repeating my same point over and over, everyone.

I'm posting as fast as I can now. I've been doing other things earlier this evening. And it takes time to review the longer comments.

Okay. *sighs* Now that I got that out of my system, I would like to send out a huge apology.  I am overly-protective.  Some of you are overly-offensive and overly-defending, but I am not going to blame, because I'm just as much at fault as anyone else.  I'm sorry if I did anything that might have offended anyone, but you all know, hopefully, that I would never mean to do that.  I got really worked up and I apologize.

@ Robyn-- No problemo! :)

@ Annoyed-- I believe Vida has read the books before.(HAven't you Vida?) I think she's rereading them. And I think I know who you are.

@R~D~- I got worked up too, and I'm sorry.

@Elizabeth- She said she was READING the 1st book in the post that starts the thread, which brings me back to my old assumption. And who do you think I am?
