Harry Potter Rant: Haters
Who else hates...

Who else hates Harry Potter? Please say someone does. I can't go through life thinking that I'm the only one that thinks the poor characterization, unnecessary filler text and boring, predictable plot lines. I'll say more, but I want to make sure that nobody will be super offended.

I can say with confidence that you are not the first person to not like Harry Potter. I really enjoyed Harry Potter, but I agree with you on tthe writing- I expected something more from her wording and such, considering she's so famous and all. I have only read the first three books, maybe it gets better as it goes on. ;)

Oh, the series gets way better as you go. Don't worry. It's sort of fun to see Queen J.K Ro-I mean J.K Rowling, sorry, using Potterhead terms allready-mature as a writer through each book she writes. The last two are nothing like the rest, and the last two you go on an emotional roller coaster and I feel love inside my heart when I read it. Oh, and this message is for everyone who reads this thread. Only this first part that you just read is for The Bookish Texan specifically.

Erm, anyways, don't give up on Harry Potter. It's a great book! But if you don't like it-and please only decide so after you have read all the books, because someone on here hated Harry Potter and hasn't even read a single book in the series-then that's fine. Do what you feel is right. What genres do you like? Narnia is a nice book although it gets a little wacky at times (*coughcough* the voyage of the dawn treader, book not movie *coughcough*) and theres always the times when you find a not-commonly read book that turns out to be terrific. A diamond in the rough. I've heard that Guardians (or some title like that) is good, but it's repetitive.

Erm, anyways, my point is, find a book that's right for you. Harry Potter is just so commonly liked and sometimes a lil' mainstream-so if you read the series and don't find yourself liking it, then that's fine! The only thing that I can advise you is to find another book to read once your closing The Deathly Halows for good and decide that the series was a lil' boring. Just find another book! Reading makes you feel like your in different places, and I enjoy that same feeling when I'm reading the Harry Potter series for the 832749758435706984327349381273498th time.

Tips for reading Harry Potter:

1. J.K Rowling uses the word Said allot. And people have complained about it. But, when your reading, remember, and take notice, that the word Said smooths over the writing and makes it easier to read, although some of us love Sobbed, Affirmed, Yelled, Screamed, sometimes you just shouldn't use those many different words to excess.

2. Remember to analyze. Don't just read Harry Potter like a normal book. Put yourself in the charecters place if your confused about their emotions, or why they are acting in a certain way? For example, Ron has allot to live up to, his brothers being prefects and head boys, which can effect Ron's charecter.

3. If you've watched the movies and not read the books, don't skip books because you've watched the movies. I don't think anyone will do this, but keep in mind that the books & movies are very different.

4. Let's say you just read the first book of Harry Potter. You like it, but don't love it, and you want to talk to your friends about it. Don't go to your friend who is a PotterHead and has read every single book 0923743985264873454 times. Baad idea, although it seems to make sense. Why? Because PotterHeads, like me, can go overboard, and sometimes end up spoiling it for you. One of my friends asked me, one day, about Harry's motives in a certain book. I went cray-cray, aka crazy, over it. "WellHarrysemotionsareabitinturmoilanddumbledoreisstartingtoigno-harrypotterseriesisthebestbookeverexceptthat-waityouhaventreadthatyetitsthebestseries EVER!" I replied. My friend then told me, very honestly, that I was making no sense. So please go to someone who isn't a PotterHead for a first opinion.

5: Back to topic. Reading Harry Potter can be difficult because Harry sometimes, only sometimes, is the generic hero. J.K Rowling isn't perfect! But sometimes, well, we do need generic heroes to save us. Being generic isn't all that bad, allthough it is sometimes pretty bad.

6. At the end of each book, I would reccomend rereading the end twice. Just so you can recap. I know, it sounds weird, rereading the last chapter twice, but for me it clears allot of stuff up. Bonus Tip: You can apply this to other books as well.

And that's all my tips on this VERY LONG post. Please don't judge HP before you read it!

P.S: If someone spoils the HP books for you, make sure to tell them very honestly, even though they might be your friend, that Spoiling ruins the books, and makes things less fresh for you, and takes all the fun out of the books. It's unfair that they got to read the books in a fun way and, well, you didnt. Oh and-*keeps on talking about HP tips and everyone walks away*

I agree, people (mostly teachers) who knock using the word 'said' don't know what they're talking about. :P

I love Harry Potter, do you have the new illustrated edition?! Obviously you are a fellow fan, So if you don't, GET IT> It is so beautiful!! And awesome!

Here it is for me.
1. I really am just going to use this thread for my opinion on HP
A. I really love the idea/plot/setting
B. I wasn't really that excited when I read the book
C. I had all of the spoilers in the world
D. My sister keeps on calling me a muggle just beacause I couldn't get through the first one
E. My sister (she is not a Warriors fan) also doesn't like me recommending Warriors to her
F. I personally like Warriors. I think it is well written but it is repetitive

Hero's tales tell stories plenty,

Remaining, however,

Unknown, the old days.

When time was old,

Heroes are Peace.

*flip*

Plenty stories tell Hero's tales,

However, remaining,

Days old, the Unknown.

Old was time, when

Peace are Heroes.
