Harry Potter Rant: Haters
Who else hates...

Who else hates Harry Potter? Please say someone does. I can't go through life thinking that I'm the only one that thinks the poor characterization, unnecessary filler text and boring, predictable plot lines. I'll say more, but I want to make sure that nobody will be super offended.

I really enjoy the plot, world and description but...

some characters are rather flat actually. Harry himself is. He doesn't seem to have any flaws except for being jealous or something occassionally and is the generic hero, it seems, nothing really special about him.

And Voldemorte is just kind of the generic bad guy. Why does he kill wizards? I never figured it out...

Sorry, but I disagree on the part where Harry is a bit of flat character, Indigo. You know how there's just these moments where he does exactly the wrong thing, like go after Serious when it's just a trap set be Voldy? And... Ok whatever. I just don't think he's flat.

Could you give me an example of all these poor characterization, filler text and predictable plot lines? And could you give me an example of a book that is better than Harry Potter?

I'm not trying to be rude, I just want to know where you get this from.

Gotta agree, I LOVE HP with all my heart. St. Owl and Danie, I'm with you on this one!

l admit, the overall theme of a magic school was interesting.

But it's the characters. They're horribly simple and predictable. There isn't such a thing as a plot driven book, there's only a character driven book. Draco is the bully. That's the end of it. Snape is mean. That's the end of it. Harry has a weak overall concept for a MC. The characters aren't right,

And oh, books that are better than Harry Potter:

White Fang

Call of the Wild

Lord of the Rings

Fablehaven

Sherlock Holmes

The Giver

Things Not Seen

Moby Dick

The Inheritance Cycle

Wings of Fire

When You Reach Me

The Chronicles of Narnia

The Lunar Chronicles

(There are more, but l don't want to give the Admins a headache reading through them all.)

*Makes fortess of said books that are better than Harry Potter*

*Drags S.E. in and bars the door*

l hold fast in my  opinion. Try and make me change it. We have Moby Dick on our side.

Guuuuuh. Debates. :P  I'm not going to try to offend anyone.... but I get real intense when it comes to Harry Potter...

a) Classic characters? They're some of the most human characters I've ever met. Harry is totally not a weak MC. His personality is way too human and developed to be "weak". And Ron, and Hermione? Nope.

b) You stopped after the 4th book. BIG MISTAKE. "Draco is the bully". You might want to read the Half-Blood Prince or Deathly Hallows. "Snape is mean." Deathly Hallows, The Prince's Tale, anyone?

c) Hmm, let me see.... books I started but then never actually finished that are on your list:

LotR

Sherlock Holmes

Things Not Seen

Moby Dick

The Inheritance Cycle

The Chronicles of Narnia

Everyone is different, I get that.... but... I could argue with you for hours about these points. You can't really argue against a series if you haven't read them all through. Sorry, but it's true.

Maybe you were layawayed by the "The Riddle House..." boring stuff at the beginning? Skip the first page and go on. It gets better.

Promise.

*Lanuches Moby Dick at St. Owl*

This is why l do not really argue/try to get people to read books that l like. Different likes.  l hate overdosed fantasy. Harry Potter is overdosed fantasy.  l don't really want to read it.  l read classical books. And you like to read something else. Fine with me.

Meh. l hate overdosed fantasy.  Give me a good hard sci-fi any day.

I would say Fablehaven is overdosed fantasy too! Awesome, but overdosed.

No offense, but how is Narnia better than Harry Potter?

*Gasp, choke, other things

Narnia is so much better than HP that it's like comparing... I don't know! Narnia has a much deeper plot with much cooler themes and characters with a deep and well-developed settign with deep motives and backstories and epic battles...

Yay Narnia!

Deeper plot? Cooler themes? It's just your normal fairy tale to me. Don't hate it, but never finished. Too much fairy tale-like and not much to kepp me thinking. I like books that make me think.

Ps How is Twilight not on that list? Or Warriors? Or Percy Jackson, for goodness's sake?

For goodness sakes, I think Twilight is junk, and Warriors are repetitive. Percy Jackson is a mix of those two.

Do you know why there's so many spin-offs of fairytales? Because people love them. People love thier fairytales.  Narnia didn't have that much of a fairytale theme,  l think it's far deeper than that. Far deeper than Harry Potter ever was.

Harry Potter was a shallow book. Yes indeed.

Twilight: Never read it.

Warriors: I don't get it. At all. Not chronologically, not plot wise, not anything.

Percy Jackson: I read Heroes of Olympus. Some of it was enjoyable.

Narnia: Read the first book. It was okay. Started on the second. Couldn't finish. At all. It just got so boring.

Inheritance Cycle: Same as Narnia.

Normal fairy tale? Narnia is so much more! A) I hate Twilight and all things related, PJ has the same issues as Harry Potter B) I do like warriors c) It does make you think. Did you ever realize the entire series is an analogy to the Bible and he story of Jesus's resurrection? And di you see the Deeper magic? The entire theme is a fantasy world, not some cliché realism that is completely overdone and cheesy! And, as another point, the Narnia books seldom include romance. And they're a beautiful blend of mythologies and fantasies.

And, you never finished. The end is super important and amazing. I cried, and I'm not a cryer.

SPOILER ALERT

SPOILER

In the Last Battle, Lucy, Peter, Edmund, Prof. Diggory and Polly all die. Susan represented sin and didn't, but the rest of them get to see the new Narnia. And Eustace dies and Jill dies. But it's amazing and I love it and it should be framed in honor with a huge golden frame.

I'm busy now, so I'll write more if I can later.

END OF SPOILERS*****

Even so, I did hate the Horse and his Boy. Sooooo boring and irrelevant.
