By the way, I keep seeing on the Blab About Books homepage that Lauren C. (starter of this thread) recently posted, but it never has her posts on here when I look. Why? Anybody know?

I think it's a bug. None of the BaB threads show anyone posting but the thread starters.

I think that TNÖ's right. Yay!!! copy & paste.

No--first it says genre or title, then the first few words of the post below that, then next to that the thread's starter, and then how many posts there are, and then the last person to post and how long ago they posted.

Twilight

OMG I LUV...              Lauren C., 12              83             Mary W., 12 seconds ago

Sort of like that. I keep seeing Lauren's name where I put mine above--i.e., last poster.

I strongly dislike twilight for so many reasons...

ok, i just found this thread, and some of the stuff i found really surprised me. i thought that anyone with the wonderful common sense to read cricket would have some more common courtesy. some of the comments posted on here, as referred to earlier by 'Lauren C.', are really, well, just plain mean. some of the main participators in this discussion, and i'm not going to point fingers, but u know who u are, are really turning into your common bully. talking about people is still bad, even on a computer. this section is supposed to be a place where anyone can share their opinions on a literary work without fear of reprimand or bullying from anyone else, and i suggest we keep it that way. you may think that you are "politely disagreeing" with someone's opinion, but by the way some of these comments are worded, i highly doubt that. besides, this is a twilight thread, and here people are talking about harry potter! take this to a harry potter thread if that's what you want to have conversations about.

as for the twilight and harry potter series, i am neutral on both accounts. i enjoy reading them, but i don't think that they are the absolute best. the only reason i am replying on this forum is because i am a bully-hater, and i felt that something needed to be said about the wording of some of these comments. remember, this is a kid's magazine, and everything that you say (type) can easily be regarded as hurtful, whether it was meant that way or not.

Well, "Crazygrl101," could you please pinpoint exactly what you mean by talking about other people? In my opinion, since the Administrators screen everything (the patience it must take!! Thank you, Administrators!), anything that could be regarded as "bullying" would be deleted. Anyone who otherwise thinks they're being "bullied" could just be ultra-sensitive, which is okay if that's their personality, or just overreacting or looking for a fight. And, as you so politely stated, "whether it was meant that way or not"- very true. If there's a misunderstanding, all we have to say is, "Sorry, I guess we got a little confused. What we really meant was..."

I don't think that anybody is really "gossiping" about Lauren, who seems perfectly okay. Unless you're referring to me bringing up her name, about how it keeps appearing as last poster- well, how is that mean? I don't get it. *shrugs*

If you were talking about me, because I was one of the "main participants" in the discussion, whatever you think I said rudely, please just indicate. Nothing was meant personally. I personally thought that we're doing a pretty good job, firstly, keeping this thread clean, considering the context that Twilight contains, and secondly, being polite and open to others' thoughts. That's just me.

And we weren't discussing Harry Potter as far as I know. We got sidetracked and began debating Erik versus Raoul in Phantom of the Opera and stereotypical male characters in general. In the teaching world, that's called authentic teaching, and I endorse it wholeheartedly.

No offense meant to any Twilighters out there, including you, Crazy.

(No, no, not insulting, just shortening your name. Sorry.)

Could you kindly indicate the posts - or some of the posts, at least - that you found to be "bullying"? I know that I can be somewhat, um, nasty when I get going about something I really don't like (like Twilight). Thank you.

Where were we talking about people, as you put it? I can't recall ever talking about anyone but fictional characters.

Harry Potter comes up sooner or later in almost every Twilight conversation. It's the best-known series in the same genre/reading age group as Twilight that has books that are the same length, so it's used most often to compare, despite the plots/characters/writing style etc. are very different. Also, people get sidetracked (see Raoul vs. the Phantom argument above). It happens.

I do agree with you though that we should be careful how we word things. Forums take away the tone inflections that most people (me included) take for granted. It's harder to tell a sarcastic remark from a serious one, which can lead to trouble. *nodnod*

Bullying?

Was I bullying? How? If I did, just say so, I really didn't mean to, either. I do tend to get snappish occasionally, but I tried not to here. I didn't mean to hurt or offend anyone.
Talking about people?
We're just talking about fictional characters from books. If we mentioned anyone here in a hurtful fashion, we don't mean it, and we're sorry. Could you point out the posts, please?
Talking about Potty?
Well, that's because lots of us like Potty, and as TNÖ said, it tends to get compared to Twilight because it's sort of in that same category.
Wording?
Well, yes. We may be unintentionally mean or sarcastic sometimes, but when you get worked up about something, feelings sort of gush out. But yes, I agree we should word our statements better, especially me. :)

I agree. What exactly is the 'bullying' on this thread? The Admin would probably snip any bullying we saw. And we were not gossiping about Lauren C. We were just talking about how it always says she's the last to post, when it's just something with Blab about Books. We weren't talking about Lauren herself.

I think that Twilight is all wrong. Bella should have married Jacob after sadly recieving the news that Edward has asked to die by the Volturi, and then Jacob hypnotizes her into thinking werewolves are superior. Then Emily becomes her best friend and Charlie and Renee get back together and it.s a happy ending. And the Cullens all leave cuz they're so ashamed of Bella and they move to Alaska to feed on innocent people's blood. THAT is my version of Twilight. The end.
