Hi Amethyst!

*looks at forms*

Oh, we're both scared of spiders apparently! The big ones frighten me the most. There's just something about them that is really creepy crawly...for some reason I like other insects but not spiders.

And we both like the Chronicles of Narnia and Wonder! Those are all very, very good books. Which is your favorite book in the Narnia series? Mine is the Horse and His Boy. The interesting thing is when I first read Wonder, I didn't like it, but when I read it the second time, I loved it.

What kind of poetry do you like to write? I like to write rhyming poems with rhyme scheme, meter, and consistent syllable length.

Sorry, third comment in a row, but here are the charrie sheets :D

Name: Moondrop

Age: 24 in human years (how much is that in wolf years? Oh dear, I'll have to do some research)

Pronouns: she/her

Pack: Leader of the Halite Wolves!!

Personality: Possibly a bit brash, ready to do anything for the Halite Wolves, loves the things her magic produces, can be a bit distant (especially to strangers), but warm to the multiple wolves she trusts/likes; usually reacts well in situations that require quick thinking, but isn't so good at planning in the long term.

Appearance: Silvery-white, thick fur; brown eyes; not especially large

Magic (one speciality of their element, e.g. growing vines): Her specialty is manipulating water, and she's not bad at creating - eek what are those things called that are like landslides but snow instead of land?? Oh right avalanches :P

Fears/Insecurities: Worries that something will happen to her pack, and that her ideas aren't as good as they seem to her.

Assertive, Aggressive, Passive, or Passive-Aggressive: Probably assertive

Background: She's one of the youngest daughters of the previous leader of the Halite Wolves, and has been leading for several years now. She's a good leader, and feels fairly confident about her role.

Shipping: Open, with male wolves

Other: n/a, except that I might change this a bit too

Eagle (required for each wolf charrie) or Fox:

Name: Crystal

Age: Theoretically Moondrop's age, if they're born at the same time; I'll have to update this when we decide what to do about age

Pronouns: she/her

Kind (Fern, Halite, or Shadow): Halite

Link (if eagle): Moondrop

Other: She's Moondrop's mentor in several ways

I might also add a fox charrie later, but these are my main ones :) Celandine and Perennial look wonderful, and I love their names!!

Wow, you dreamed I responded the night after I did? Talk about a dream come true lol

All of those things sound fun :) I wonder why romcoms would seem better…I haven’t read much of them, so I have no idea. Now that I’m thinking of it, I’ve mainly read fantasy and historical fiction (as well as too much fairy/folk tales), but I’ve been developing an unprecedented appetite for poetry, adult nonfiction, and adult short stories. What do you like to read?

I’m going to be out of town starting Tuesday, so I don’t think we can start the RP until June 25th. We’ll probably post it under the name (and I tested them; they fit in the name box hooray!) Celandine & Moondrop…or Moondrop & Celandine…(which one?). I'm going to finalize the list then post it here (so we can make any last edits to the RP), as well as work on the introductory post as much as I can this weekend (more details in the paragraph on that) to get all ready for the grand posting (like grand opening, but grand posting XD...I think that's sort of funny).

Okay! So the Shadow Wolves were exiled a long while back, eventually everyone forgot what they did and let them return. And then maybe one day one Shadow Wolf is bitter about the past and decides to try to take over everyone’s magic and teach the other wolves a lesson?

Sounds good! I really like the idea that the seers only have one power if their seeing power is strong, but just in case that requires extra explanation and someone skips reading that (I’m guilty of skimming words when instructions are really long…), I think I’ll simplify the seer magic and edit the Magic question on the form to “Magic (one speciality of their element such as growing vines, or if they are a Seer, fortune telling, in which case their element power cannot be very powerful):”

Perfect! *adds powers to list*

Yes we can definitely start with the dramatic fictional movie-preview type of intro! …Unrelated, but I’ve noticed that movie trailers usually play the same kind of music and there’s usually a lot of drumming in the background and it seems like the narrative voice always sounds the same (“In theaters, July 15th”…*cue more dramatic drumming sounds*)…almost like they’re the same person for every trailer. aNyWaYs, to go back on topic…how shall we divide the writing of the introduction? I’m interested in writing a quick summary of how the wolf-world works (e.g. trading, potion making, ice buildings) and maybe some guidelines/rules (I think the rules are basically the typical one of no OP charries, only three Fern Wolves can be seers and they can’t have really powerful element magic, an eagle charrie must be created for each wolf charrie, the most active Shadow Wolf charrie gets to be the Shadow Wolf leader, and every twelve hours or something like that the wolves will take turns guarding their packs’ power sources–plural, because they’re also guarding the decoys!) But if you want to write those, I can definitely write a different part of the introduction :) Later, we can also write any extra explanations (such as posting schedules for which charries are guarding the power sources at what times in the RP and what direction the plot’s going in…well, actually, we could just have our charries hold meetings and discuss plans) (Charries keeps wanting to autocorrect to cherries XD)

Lol yes the “teh” typo is really common…and also “fo” (but for some reason I never type “ro” or “ot” or any other two-word typo...hmmm)

I like Moondrop’s personality :D She seems like a round character and–I was about to say nuanced but idk what nuanced means exactly…(it’s just such a pretty word and just seems to match perfectly with Moondrop…oddly…)

And...I think these are the finalized forms? (I changed the examples for magic and added it to the eagle and fox forms too as an optional choice--)

Lol yes :)

I think maybe it's because romcoms are very light reading and are usually set in warm, nice places so you feel more like reading them when it's summer? I started reading them last year, and ever since then I've been on the hunt for good ones. I also like historical fiction (especially if it's set in about the 1800s back) and fantasy, and poetry ofc :D I've found a couple of really good historical fiction writers, but I've read almost all their books, and it seems difficult to find more :/ Modern fantasy often seems to dwell a lot on violence/gore, so I stick more to older fantasy, but I'm running out of that too... which is sad because I love love love it. Also I get the feeling that nowadays it all seems to go along the same lines - about a person who goes to an academy in a fantasy land to develop powers, or a forbidden magician, or a "cruel empire" which a lone person is battling (or possibly he/she's going along with the system, which is worse), or possibly if we're being innovative it's about dragons... I could be completely wrong, but those seem to be the trend. Which is why I love books like the CofN :)

Anyway, that turned into a loooong ramble, help. Poetry - yes I love poetry :)) I think actually some of the best poetry I've ever read has been here on the CB; I lOVE peppermint's and pangolin's, and Artemis had some wonderful poems (though I didn't read that many of hers, I think). I've read some fairy/folk tales, but lately not so many... are there any especially good ones?

All right, hope you have fun! Yayy it fits!! I'd go for Celandine & Moondrop, but however you like :] Yes grand posting XD

Great! That would make it easier for the Halite Wolves to overhear the planning of the Shadow Wolves as well - they could hear some (already convinced) Shadows trying to convince others that they should covertly take over the other wolves' magic. Not that I imagine the Shadow Wolves will need much convincing...

All right, wonderful :)

You're right, movie trailers do share that a startling amount of the time. Maybe there's one person who goes about saying dramatic things for all trailers XD Great! You're very good at worldbuilding/all that, so it would be wonderful if you could write those :D I suppose we'll have to choose the Shadow Wolf leader, since otherwise it might be a bit difficult. It shouldn't affect the plot that there isn't an established leader at the beginning, as they won't really have a leader at first. I could probably write the dramatic-movie-intro if you'd like (though totally fine if you want to write it) Also, I think we should probably call it something like "Magic Wolf RP" so that it will appear as that on Inkwell? (Also, I suppose we are posting it on Inkwell? Just making sure :) ) Discussions/planning of our charries should work well! Lol charries/cherries... that's hilarious XD (imagine "We could have our cherries discussing plans" etc XD)

Hmm, highly suspicious... I hardly ever type "fo", though, oddly. Though actually now that I think about it, I believe I used to do it a lot?

Ty! Actually, nuanced does sound like her...

Looks good!! Except what are we doing about age...?

Oh, and one last thing (after TWO one-line paragraphs, shriek where's my writing got to??): should we start off the RP with a couple of prophecies that we've written, or should we write them as the plot progresses? Honestly, I would never have guessed that there was so much planning to an RP :DD

submitted by Amethyst, Cauldron Pool
(June 16, 2024 - 9:40 am)

Hi! I'll be back with a longer comment later (right now I have to pack and then volunteer for two hours, so today's a little busy), but just to answer all RP questions so we have a better idea of what to write for the intro, I'm going to briefly address these now, and also post the list. I'll probably be checking this thread while I'm traveling.

Yes, it will be in Inkwell (do you want to post it after we put the intro together?), and yes, we can call it Magic Wolf RP. I'll write the little worldbuilding details, how the RP works, and generally the instruction manuals for the RP (and after the intro's posted, we'll probably post our charrie forms on the thread). Are you writing the characteristics of the wolves?

Oh! I forgot to change the age in months thing on the form...for age, I think we're just assuming the animals have the same age system as humans do, because that's easier.

And as for prophecies...yes, we can do a (maybe?) very cryptic prophecy (I think it might be difficult to write more than one prophecy) about the Shadow Wolves (cryptic as in the type with a very vague idea about what the prophecy is actually saying). I'm not sure how we write a prophecy collaboratively though...maybe we each write one separately and then see what elements we like from both?

Okay, now the list! (sorry if this is a looooong comment to read). I think this has all of the final ideas (and it might be helpful to have something to reference when we're writing the intro). Let me know if there's something that needs to be taken out or added :) AAA we're actually starting soon...wow, there has been so much planning to this, but it's so exciting to be this close to starting that I'm having trouble believing it, and keep on being shocked when I realize we are, in fact, starting it :D :D

Magic Ideas:

All animals can turn invisible for a short time and teleport. Magical powers have to be used in moderation, or else they run out.

Each pack has a power source and several decoys of them. The animals take turns guarding them, and every 12 hours they switch off according to a schedule the leader of the pack has posted.

The magic of each wolf depends on the individual. There is no wolf who has all plant magic, all weather magic, or all shadow magic. Instead, their powers are, for example, causing a certain species of tree to bear another kind of fruit besides its own, causing a certain type of cloud to appear, or causing a certain type of rock to appear.

Packs

Shadow Wolves: Dark gray fur. They live in both the forest and the tundra. Ages ago they were exiled to the mountains for causing harm to the other packs, then, when the other packs were under different leadership and completely forgot what they did, allowed to return. They have good night vision. Their magical abilities include camouflaging into shadows and manipulating rocks and stone with telekinesis. A piece of magic-infused obsidian gives them these powers. Each Shadow Wolf is telepathically linked with a Shadow Eagle and are secretly keeping in touch with their entire pack by sending telepathic messages to their eagles who can then communicate with other eagles telepathically connected to other wolves, because they speak the same language. Together they are planning to overthrow the other packs by stealing their magic. Their leader is ______(ask active CBer of a shadow wolf charrie to be the leader)_____.

Fern Wolves: Brown fur. They live in the forest in dens hidden by ferns. The ferns were originally an adaptation to needing to defend their wolf cubs, but the habit stuck. The wolves eat ferns, as well as mushrooms, vegetables, fruit, and nuts. A rare flower is their power source, and gives them magic (e.g. growing a certain species of vine supernaturally quickly). Later, there are harmless decoys of these flowers made. Three of the wolves (no more) are seers who can see the future and write prophecies. They make various potions—usually for recovering health or strength—from plants they find in the forest. Their leader is Celandine (with a potential to-be-determined co-leader in case of hiatuses)

Halite Wolves: White fur. They live in the north tundra where it snows. They trade salt to the Fern Wolves in exchange for food, which is scarce where they live. Their magic source is a halite crystal that gives them water, weather and snow magic (e.g. causing or disappearing inside snow storms). Once in a while, set aside their magic for two days in order to build houses and palaces out of ice. There are some decoys of the crystal. Their leader is Moondrop.

Eagles

Shadow Eagles: Dark and white feathered. They live in the mountains, where they receive messages from the Shadow Wolf they are telepathically linked to (link determined by if they were born on the same day), which they convey to other Shadow Eagles, who tell it to their wolves. They have the same magical abilities as the Shadow Wolves.

Fern Eagles: Brown and white feathered. They live in the mountains near the forest and the tundra, and have the same magic sources and methods as the Fern Wolves. They aid Fern Wolves in delivering things around the forest, speak the same language, and are each telepathically linked with a Fern Wolf (link determined by if they were born on the same day) although they don’t know they have this ability. They act as spies during the war.

Halite Eagles: White feathered. They live amongst the Halite Wolves, use and perform their magic. Each one is telepathically linked with a Halite Wolf (link determined by if they were born on the same day) although they don’t know they have this ability. They act as spies during the war.

Foxes

Red Foxes: Exactly as the name sounds. They live in the forest and don’t really consider themselves as allies of the Fern Wolves and Eagles. Some can be persuaded to be spies.

Arctic Foxes: White fur. They live in the north tundra and don’t really consider themselves as allies of the Halite Wolves and Eagles. Some can be persuaded to be spies.

Plot Ideas:

1. The Shadow Wolves plan to discover the other packs’ magic secrets, so they can control them. They communicate with each other by sending telepathic messages from wolf to eagle, then verbally from eagle to another eagle, and telepathically again from that eagle to another wolf. 2. The Fern Wolves foresee danger, shortly after which the Halite Wolves hear the Shadow Eagles trying to get other Shadow Wolves to agree with their plan to take over the magic of the other packs. The Fern Wolves realize this is the danger they had foresaw. The Shadow Wolves realize their plan is discovered and go into hiding in the mountains. 3. The Fern Wolves, Halite Wolves, and Shadow Wolves form alliances consisting of wolves, eagles, and a few foxes. They launch an attack on the Shadow Alliance, hoping to scatter them (not hurt them) and cause them to give up their mission of controlling the others. It doesn’t work. 4. ? 5. ? End: Eventually, when all packs get a hold of each other’s magic, they realize they’re better as one pack, and are all the same.

That's fine :) Hope you have a great trip! Also I saw your post on Random Thoughts saying that you had tests... how've they been going? I hope well - sending you virtual positivitea and hugs <3

Yes, we should probably put the intro together here and then post the whole thing; would you mind doing that? The format comes out terrible if I copy paste on the computer I usually use for the CB (it's very old) :/ I can write the characteristics.

All right, perfect! Maybe we'd better specify on the forms that the eagles will be the same age as the wolves they're linked to.

Yess a vague prophecy :D We could each write one, or we could go line-by-line (you write a line, I write the next, you write the next, etc.), or take elements from two different ones as you suggested.

Don't worry, I love long comments! I know, I'm also still not fully getting the idea that it's actually about to be started shriekkk :DDD

Magic ideas: Looks good!

Packs: See above

Eagles/foxes: Also great :)

Plot ideas: Pretty good! We should probably leave potential 4 and 5 open for plot ideas that other CBers contribute.

Forms: Yesss :)

Here's a touched-up version of Moondrop's form (also hopefully the final version):

Name of charrie: Moondrop

Age: 24

Pronouns: she/her

Pack: Leader of the Halite Wolves

Personality: Can be slightly brash, can be a bit distant (especially to strangers), but warm to her pack and especially to the wolves she's very close to; usually reacts well in situations that require quick thinking, but not so good at planning in the long term; ready to do anything for the Halite Wolves.

Appearance: Small, moves quickly, has thick silvery-white fur and brown eyes

Magic (one speciality of their element such as growing vines, or if they are a Seer, fortune telling, in which case their element power cannot be very powerful): Manipulating water; can also create avalanches

Fears/Insecurites: Worries that something will happen to her pack and that she isn't doing all she should for it, and is afraid that her ideas aren't as good as they seem to her.

Assertive, Aggressive, Passive, or Passive-Agressive: Assertive

Background: She's one of the youngest daughters of the previous leader of the Halite Wolves, and has been leading for several years now. She's a good leader, and is getting used to her role; she relies on Crystal to help her out and mentor her in several things.

Shipping: Open, with male wolves

And Crystal is also 24.

Whee I'm so excited :D

I haven't finished my part of the intro post yet, but i did finish a draft of the prophecy. However, I think it might be easier to write line by line (or if you wrote it by yourself), because seriously I have been working on the prophecy for four days and now that I finally got a complete draft that's been scrutinized and revised almost to death, I realized that the last two lines aren't even going to happen in the RP because that's leaning towards a violent or dark war. I could scrutinize and revise it more, but idk how long that'd take. Oh, and judging from the amount of time i devoted to rhymes, the taking elements from each poem thing might not work (for some reason I didn't think of that before :/ ) so I think either only one of us writes the prophecy or we go line by line. What do you think?

...well, here's the prophecy i made up (cries and threes are slant rhymes), so maybe you can see what I was talking about (I might attempt to revise it though)

Should mountains ring with silent cries,

wounds fester in this cornerstone

and fissure it in twos, in threes,

then if one falls, it falls alone

and all will bear the gnawing of remorse.

(Once again, I'll be back with longer comments soon...this comment is just for addressing the prophecy poem)

Here's the intro draft!

Magic Wolf RP

[insert story introduction]

-Animal Characteristics-

[insert Animal Characteristics]

-Some Important Worldbuilding Notes to Read-

General Geography:

From north to south, the world consists of the tundra where Halite Wolves, Halite Eagles, Arctic Foxes, and some Shadow Wolves live, the mountains where the Shadow Eagles live (and later in the RP, the Shadow Wolves) live, and the forest where Fern Wolves, Fern Eagles, Red Foxes, and some Shadow Wolves live.

Wolf and Animal Organization:

The two main packs are the Halite and Fern Wolves/Eagles/Foxes, who are led by Moondrop and Celandine and their eagles, respectively. The Shadow Wolves live scattered among these two packs and don’t have a leader. Eventually, they will (see Rules and Guidelines for more).

Magic:

-Power Sources

A Power Source is a special object that gives magical powers to any animal who uses it. The Fern Power Source is a rare flower, the Halite Power Source is a special halite crystal, and the Shadow Power Source is a piece of obsidian. There is one Power Source for each pack as well as useless decoys of it. These are all guarded carefully.

-Powers

All animals can turn invisible for a short time and teleport. Wolves, and sometimes eagles and foxes as well, receive special plant, weather, or shadow powers from their pack’s Power Source. Plant magic includes growth, destruction, or plant-potion powers. An example of this is the ability to cause a tree to bear another kind of fruit besides its own. Weather magic includes manipulating water, weather, and snow. An example of this is the ability to cause a certain type of cloud to appear or disappear. Shadow magic includes manipulating rocks and stone, and camoflauging in shadows. An example of this is the ability to temporarily blind an animal by throwing a shadow over their eyes. No animal has all plant, weather, or shadow magic possible. If they use their powers too much and run out, they will not be able to use magic until they receive more from their pack’s Power Source.

-Special Powers

-If any Halite Wolf sets aside their magic for two days, they are able to build buildings made of ice. Three Fern Wolves do not have plant magic. They are seers instead and can see the future.

-Telepathy

Each Wolf is able to communicate telepathically with the Eagle of their element who was born on the same day as them. However, only the Shadow Wolves and Shadow Eagles know they can do this. The others have not discovered this trick yet.

Trading:

Food is scarce in the tundra, so the Halite Wolves trade salt (halite) to the Fern Wolves in exchange for food.

-Rules, Guidelines, and Role-Playing Info

1. No OP charries, please. If your charrie has all, for example, shadow-related magic, we will ask you to choose one specialty.

2. Please don't control other CBer's charries too much!

3. For each Wolf charrie you make, you must make an Eagle charrie who is the same age and the same element.

4. There are three Fern Wolves seers and can see the future. They don't have any other magic.

5. There isn't a Shadow Wolf leader yet. If you have an active Shadow Wolf charrie, we will likely ask you to lead.

6. Every 12 hours, the wolves will take turns guarding the Power Source and decoys. We will post a schedule before we start the RP.

7. We are two CBers writing under pen names. Feel free to guess us!

8. If you have any questions, we suggest reading through everything we wrote above. If you still have questions after that, please ask us.

If we go line by line with the prophecy, maybe we could still make it
rhyme...? I love yours, it's very prophecy-ish; I think the last lines
might not affect it too much, since it doesn't actually say that any of
the Alliances will fall (just a warning that none of them should and that a dark/violent war wouldn't be good), but I
do see your point... I wrote two possible ones, but the first one
doesn't predict much, and the second one might be a bit too obvious
(also I think "the shadows" in the first one should be replaced with
"the darkness", because otherwise it's also a bit obvious):

One broken wing can stop the siblings' flight

Far from you, the shadows are/the darkness is growing strong

The three as one must stay with what is right

Even if no one's sure just what is wrong...

Two divided into threes

Messages that no one sees

To survive in the long run

Three must unite and just be one

Yes
I can rhyme if I want to, though lately I've been doing almost
completely non-rhyming poetry >:) Anyway, I could work on another one or
we could do one line by line, but these are possibilites.

The
intro draft is looking wonderful!! Not too complicated, luckily :>
I'm not too happy yet with the story introduction, but here's a draft:

Far
away from the lands known today, there was a world where magic was
everywhere. The magic of three packs, three groups of proud wolves who
lived together in peace and friendship. There were the Halite Wolves,
rulers of the ice; the Fern Wolves, rulers of the forest; and the Shadow
Wolves, who possessed the devious powers of the night. Three packs,
like three siblings: seldom disagreeing, living together, sharing what
they had.

But thunder was building up in the mountains. A storm
was coming - maybe more than one - that could split the wolves apart, or
maybe keep them together. The Shadow Wolves proved that they didn't
belong to the sunlit world of the other wolves, and the packs cast them out. On a stormy night, the gray wolves left, leaving vague threats in
the thunder still rumbling in the sky.

They would return.

The storm was not yet over.

And here are the animal characteristics:

Wolves:

None of the wolves hunt animals for meat. All wolves, eagles, and foxes have the same language.

-Fern Wolves

The Fern Wolves have brown fur and live in the forest, which supplies them with everything they need. They eat ferns, mushrooms, vegetables, fruits, and nuts which they forage for, and which they trade to the Halite Wolves (see Trading). They also make potions from forest plants, which are generally used to help them gain health or strength. They live in dens, which they hide with ferns; this used to be because of the vulnerability of their cubs, but they continue doing it despite no longer needing to.

-Halite Wolves

The Halite Wolves have white fur and live in the tundra. They construct palaces and dwellings of ice using their magic (see Special Powers). They eat the same food as the Fern Wolves (see Trading).

-Shadow Wolves

The Shadow Wolves have gray fur, and live in the tundra and the forest, as part of Celandine and Moondrop's packs. Except for having different magic and different-colored fur, they aren't noticeably different from the other wolves.

Eagles:

-Fern Eagles

They have brown and white feathers, and live close to the Fern Wolves. They have the same magic as the Fern Wolves, and are friendly with them, helping them in small ways (e.g. transporting materials for them).

-Halite Eagles

They have white feathers, and live among the Halite Wolves, sharing their magic. They also help each other (e.g. the eagles transport materials and help to watch over wolf cubs).

-Shadow Eagles

They have dark and white feathers, and live in the mountains, sharing the Shadow Wolves' magic. Each Shadow Eagle is telepathically linked to a Shadow Wolf (see Telepathy), and are their constant allies.

Foxes:

Red foxes have red fur and live in the forest, while Arctic foxes have white fur and live in the tundra. They aren't enemies of the Fern and Halite Wolves, but don't think of themselves as their helpers or allies either. However, they may be able to give the wolves valuable help later in the RP.

Also, maybe we should put in a brief history after the story introduction? Just something brief, like:

-History-

Years ago, the Shadow Wolves lived among the other wolves. However, they were exiled to the mountains for (plotting against the other wolves/or whatever we decide). Years later, the Fern and Halite Wolves no longer remembered what had happened, and the Shadow Wolves came back and mingled among the other wolves again.

Or I could weave that into my story introduction, or we could leave it out :)

I really like your poems :) (both these ones, and the ones I see you write for the Poetry Contest) And yeah, I've also been turning towards free verse/non-rhyming poetry just because it's easier and more...well, free.

I particularly like the first poem prophecy you wrote--I LOVE the first line so much it's beautiful--I don't think any changes are necessary at all, but if you wanted, we could change "can stop" to "cut short", and reword the second line to "Afar, long-wounded darkness rises, strong"

Idk, I just like playing around with iambic pentameter...these are just suggestions. (no pressure about accepting my suggestions or anything like that!) I think it'd be easier not to write a new poem line by line, and use the first prophecy you wrote instead? (probably somewhere in the intro, or we could do a new -section- for it.

I love the story intro so far, and the characteristics look good :D

Oh yes, let's do history! I think it would work equally well in the story intro and as a section, so it's up to you :)

AAAAAA SO EXCITING AAAA I think I keep saying this but I'm just so excited to post the RP (all this work and planning and worldbuilding and now we're actually writing the intro and AAA I can't stop being excited!!! Tysm for asking me to work on this back in September! :D It's been so fun, and I've really been enjoying making the RP with you :D)

Ty! And yes, non-rhyming poetry gives so much more space to explore and improvise; rhyming poetry is great, but definitely more restricted.

Aww thanks :) And wait whoa what it's in iambic pentameter (well, partly)?? I hadn't even noticed lol... all that analyzing Shakespeare in school seems to have paid off. How about this for the final prophecy?

One broken wing can stop the sibling's flight

And far from you, the dark grows daily strong

The three as one must stay with what is right

Even if no one's sure just what is wrong...

Maybe we could do a new -section-? I mean, who can resist :)

I think we should do history as a new section too - I'm not sure how well I could weave it into the intro.

I know, I'm also soooooo excited... I mean, we might actually have other CBers' charries participating?? And everything will actually be put into action?? It's so excitinggg to be on the brink of lAuNcHiNg this :D You're welcome, I think you've really made this much deeper than it would have been otherwise - it was just a vague idea I had (as in, "ooh wouldn't it be fun to do a Magic Wolf RP? Hmmm") but it's become so complex and amazing... it's been wonderful to work on it with you :)) I'll post a polished-up version of the story intro soon.

So as I said on Random Thoughts, I have been kind of sad since my grandfather died, but I do want to continue with this/launch the RP; it's been so wonderful chatting with you, and planning the RP ofc <3 Also, there are more than a hundred comments on this thread!! *confetti*

Back to long comments :D (aka. long ramble about historical fiction, fantasy, poetry, fairy-tales, and our RP, but mostly fairy-tales for some reason. I’m feeling extra chatty right now XD)

I love historical fiction but am also running out…It’s very likely you have, but have you read the books of *quickly jumps out of chair to fetch historical fiction books from the shelf* Elizabeth George Speare, Laura Ingalls Wilder, Scott O'Dell, Mari Hanes and...there are some authors I’m forgetting. Every time I go to the library I scan the shelves for books with historical fiction labels but usually I don’t find any good ones :/ Oh no...modern fantasy...I haven't seen so much of the violence/blood part, but I agree with you! It seems like all the original trends and plot ideas are used up and every modern fantasy book I've read is sadly cliche (and yet somehow it seems that fantasy books are taking over the book market) Eek the academy thing, and the “Chosen One” thing :/ Even the topic of dragons is starting to get worn out *sighs* Do you have any older fantasy books you would recommend, besides CoN and The Hobbit/oh help I’m forgetting the name…oh, that’s right, it’s called the Lord of the Rings (not sure how I forgot :o ). (But to go off topic for a brief second…I love the worldbuilding in Lothlorien :D )

I also love poetry :) Although a lot of times it’s so dIfFiCuLt to understand…there was this one poem (I think it was satirical) that I was reading over and over and over trying to find it’s hidden significance…and finally I found about half of that. (There's a website that organizes poems by author, and there’s poems of the day and analyzations on them and magazines and whatnot) I haven’t ventured too much onto the Poetry Contest Thread so I haven’t seen most CB poems (when I do ghost around there, I usually think about entering. That’s sort of tricky because I have difficulty writing under pressure, and if a certain rhyme or topic won’t work, I just have to drop the poem. Also, I struggle to write anything happy…I’m planning to experiment with being more optimistic. Do you have any tips for that? I’ve noticed you and Poinsettia write really happy, positive stories…I’m not sure how you do it)

There are a LOT of fairy/folk tales, so I’ll just recommend books with large collections of them. One Thousand and One Arabian Nights by Geraldine McCaughrean is the most well-written (it’s beautiful to read) fairy/folk tale book I’ve read. The premise can be a little dark/disturbing, though (the narrator’s life is continually in danger, so…). The only stories that are on the violent/bloody side (no gore/grisly descriptions though) are The Wonderful Tale of Ali Baba and the Forty Bandits and maybe The Tale of Ala al-Din and his Wonderful Lamp (Basically Aladdin. I’m looking for one part in it specifically but can’t find it :/), but I don’t know what level of violence/blood would be too much, so idk if there are more stories I should warn against or not (if later you want to read the book, I could do a deeper scan). Also, there are the [insert color, e.g. blue, green, red, rainbow, etc.) Fairy Books by Andrew Lang, which are collections of fairy/folk tales from around the world (I think…not sure tho). I have an out-of-print copy of the Blue Fairy Book, which I think is good, but I don’t know how easy the stories would be to find :/ Hans Christian Andersen’s stories are also excellent–I read a collection of them before, and I love how he personifies objects :)

Sounds good :) Eek analyzing Shakespeare...I haven't read much Shakespeare (unless you count abridged versions and a Romeo and Juliet audiobook that is one of the only audiobooks we have hehe). Yes, I think right now the first three lines of the prophecy are in iambic pentameter. And sure, let's make a new -section- for the prophecy (I’m going to put it right after our intro, unless you think it should go somewhere else) :)

Okay, history will be a section then (I'll put it before or after -General Geography in the intro). Do you want to write it, or do you want me to?

Oh! Thank you...I was a little worried I was making it too complex…Lol I remember when we first started planning for the RP I said I could help a little bit, but not too much…I think sometimes between then and now I got carried away :D

Yeah, I’m taking practice SAT tests every Monday or Tuesday now and doing practice test questions every weekday :/ They’ve been going ok…I started doing harder questions recently, and after that is even harder…eek. But I think it will pay off eventually…

:D wow over a 100 comments! *throws 0s and 1s and little squiggly confetti that are supposed to be commas* :D

I’ve been praying for you and Poinsettia and your family, for peace and solace and healing <3

Yayy, long comments forever :D

Ooh yes Elizabeth George Speare!! I love her books, especially The Witch of Blackbird Pond and The Bronze Bow - I wish she'd written more books :)) She's such a good writer, and she usually gets very fully into the spirit of whichever era she's writing about. Her characters are also amazing... I've read several of Laura Ingalls Wilder's books too, which are always good reads. I've never tried Scott O'Dell or Mari Hanes, though, so I'll have to look into them! I'd recommend a couple of books of Rosemary Sutcliff (although she tends to go into violence too), especially The Eagle of the Ninth - slightly violent, but it's utterly well-written and it sweeps you straight into it. It's set in Britain during the time Rome was in power there. I'm not sure how easy it would be to find, though :/ Also Eloise Jarvis McGraw (a bit like Speare, though she also tends to get slightly violent) and Elizabeth Janet Gray. Argh yes even dragons are no longer what they used to be... And I don't know why there are so many cliches in fantasy in particular, because it's theoretically a genre that allows for sO mUcH variety - you don't even have the limits of "but that couldn't happen in real life", since literally anything can happen. Well, CoN and Tolkien are my go-to recommendations (at least The Hobbit; I haven't read LotR yet, so that's something very exciting that I have to look forward to :D) But other than those, there's Time at the Top by Edward Ormondroyd - strictly speaking it's fantasy and historical fiction mixed, but the whole book has a very fantasy-ish feel and it's a super fun read (oh and I'm so happy that my review for it came out in Cricket Readers Recommend!! yayyyyy :] ) There's also Momo by Michael Ende, which is fantasy combined with realistic fiction, and it's thought-provoking and inspiring and very very well-written, and you absolutely fall in love with all the characters. I think Michael Ende is better known for The Never-Ending Story, which I also read once, but frankly it isn't at all as good as Momo - it doesn't seem to have much point, and it's kind of dense without going anywhere, but it is very much in the fantasy genre so you could always give it a try if you wanted to. My other go-to rec is The Search for Delicious by Natalie Babbitt, which is firmly fantasy and just a light, very nice read. I'll probably come up with more later :P

Yes, poetry can be dense... some of the poems I love most are ones that just paint an image or an idea without going too extremely deep. Ooh, that website sounds lovely :D Yes, a lot of times I'm interested in the prompts on the Poetry Contest but I don't manage to come up with an idea for a poem in time, so I end up letting it drop. Actually I'm not sure how I do it either XD Maybe I'd just say think of a beautiful image, or of something that makes you happy, and write a poem around that? Basically try to encapsulate a happy feeling/place/etc. Again, I might come up with something more later.

Ooh all right, I'd heard of the Arabian Nights but I've never read that version... oh no gore, good :> I've also heard of the Andrew Lang fairy tales, but I'd never given them a try. Oh and ofc Andersen, I've read some of his - I should probably go back and reread some of them, though :)

I've read some of Shakespeare's sonnets and one or two of his plays - I'm honestly looking forward to reading Romeo and Juliet eventually, because after all it's a cLaSsIc and everyone says it's beautiful. Yes a new -section-!! After the intro sounds great.

I can write the History if you'd like (just probably tomorrow - I'll also brush up the story intro very soon), but you're also welcome to! Well, I may have gotten carried away too :) (And I think I got carried away in this comment, it seems to have gotten very long :0)

Eek, good luck with the tests! I imagine it will pay off, though...

Squee we're into the hundreds!!! *throws more squiggly confetti* :DD

Aww, thank you so so much <33 It honestly means so much to me that we're (virtual) "friends", and I'm always here to support you too if you need it <3

A polished-up intro:

Long ago and far away, magic dominated a golden land; the magic of three groups of proud wolves, who lived together in peace and friendship. There were the Halite Wolves, rulers of the ice. There were the Fern Wolves, rulers of the forest. And there were the Shadow Wolves, who possessed the uncertain powers of the night. They were like three siblings, sharing what they had, sharing their lives.

But thunder was building up in the mountains. Flashes of warning lightning were already flickering over the packs. A storm was coming, possibly more than one, that could split the wolves apart, or possibly keep them together. The Shadow Wolves were darker than the other wolves and undisputedly different, and the packs cast them out. The gray wolves fled, and the other wolves were rid of them, waiting for daybreak.

But the shadows are known to keep away daybreak. There was still a vague threat in the thunder clouding the sky.

The Shadow Wolves would return.

The storm was not yet over.

And I can add the History if you don't want to write it :)
