Mystery Inn Ski Lodge
You are on CB, minding your own business, until you spotted this Ski Lodge. Not unusual in the least. You click on it, of course, and begin to read it, the question lingering in your mind: Should I join?
Suddenly, you receive an email. How odd, you think. An email? So you go into your email and click into it, and spot a typed up message sent to you under the names Secret, Rune, and Enigma. Cautiously, you read it, scrolling down slowly and taking in each word, hopefully. It reads:

Day 1, Part 2
Scuttles walked down the hall, slightly uncertain which room was theirs. Then suddenly, they passed by a room which felt like it was a magnet, drawing them to the door. They decided to try out that door, which had a password. Scuttles typed in the message, which was Trevor, the demon, makes cinnamon pancakes on Saturdays. The door opened, and they settled into their room, unpacking all their luggage, which included devices, art supplies, and everything else necessary.
The room was a steampunk theme, being colorful and chaotic, which Scuttles liked. The color of the decorations and bed were a variety of bright colors accented with black. They set down Fluffles, Ptheo, and Trevor on mini beds that the room contained. Ptheo immediately flew up and perched at the windowsill.
Scuttles smiled and closed the door, making their way slowly to the lounge room. The lounge room was mostly empty, since Scuttles was early and worked quickly, besides two other guests—Cocoa cat and Writing.
Scuttles sat down next to them, greeting them, and asked, “What were your rooms like?”
Cocoa replied, “My room was pretty neat! It perfectly suited me, especially the bookshelf full of Percy Jackson books! I’m definitely going to start rereading them when I have the chance.”
“Same,” Writing agreed. “My walls were kind of like a whiteboard, where if you draw anything with your finger, it appears in a random shade of blue.”
“Mine was a steampunk theme,” Scuttles said.
“Hey there!” the sound of a new guest’s voice said. It was Lyric, making her way to them. Following her was a CAPTCHA reading a book, who Lyric introduced as Nya. “Can I join you?”
“Of course!” Cocoa replied. “We were discussing our rooms.”
Lyric nodded and said, “I always love the rooms in ski lodges. They either match your preference or have a cool theme to them. And did any of you see the weird locked box?”
“A weird locked box?” Writing repeated. Lyric nodded. He shook their head. “I didn’t really explore the room. I just set my luggage down. Where did you find it?”
“In the closet, like where all mysteries are,” Lyric said. “It was a hot pink cube decorated with DNA strands. Basically themed with the rest of my room. And there was a lock on it, with no key that I could find.”
“Interesting,” Scuttles said. “A mystery.”
“Suitable for this place,” Cocoa smiled. “I’m gonna go look for it when I get back. I wonder what’s inside?”
By then, all the guests had gathered in the lounge room, and the hosts were standing patiently—well, mostly patiently, since Rune was tapping her foot rather impatiently. When at last the chatter died down, Enigma spoke up.
“Thank you for gathering here quickly,” Enigma said. “We are going to prepare to eat dinner soon, so please gather in the dining room. After we eat, we will show you one more room for our tour, then we will give you freedom to do whatever you want—within the rooms we have shown you so far as well as your bedroom. Please do not go exploring the rooms yourself.”
Secret smiled and said in a half-whisper, “Remember that this is a ski lodge. I’m sure that is a good enough reason why you shouldn’t go exploring those rooms.”
The guests who had experienced ski lodges before nodded in understanding of the unspoken words. Some cracked smiles. The others who seemed confused were quickly filled in with whispers.
“So, any questions?” Rune asked.
Hawkstar raised her hand and said, “What’s for dinner, if I may ask?”
“What’s for dinner indeed,” Enigma said.
“It’s a mystery, of course,” Secret explained. “This is Mystery Inn.”
Hawkstar nodded, since she was already half-expecting that answer. The hosts, seeing that there were no other questions, led the guests to the dining room.
The guests quickly seated, and dinner was quite literally floated to them—with covered white plates hovering in the air and settling down in front of each guest.
Mizuki held a breath as she removed the covering from the plate, not exactly knowing what to expect. It was a surprisingly normal steak dinner, with steak and greens and potatoes. She glanced around the room and found that some of the other guests had different-looking meals. Gloomy had a meal that looked quite futuristic, with neon-colored spaghetti, and Cypress had an old-fashioned 1700s looking meal, with a slice of bread, some meat, and cheese.
Although some of them looked unusual, all of the guests could agree that it was the best, if not one of the best, meal they had ever eaten. The guests finished their dinner with some mild chatter and overall a feeling of content.
When everyone finished, the three hosts entered the room. Rune took the lead, and when the guests were silent, she announced, “Now we’ll quickly show you the room that we missed on our tour earlier. Follow us.”
Rune led them down the hall and stopped at a glass door decorated with leaves, flowers, and other kinds of plant decoration. She opened the door and held it there, letting the guests file in.
It looked very much like a garden, with a layer of grass on the ground, trees, bushes, and flowers. There were also some potted lilies in the corner. Stepping into it felt like going into an actual garden, with the feeling of fresh air and even sunlight.
The hosts let the guests linger there for a while before calling them back to the hall. Rune announced that the guests could now do whatever they wanted within the rooms and within reason.
Sempreverde immediately rushed to the popcorn machine in the rec room. Hawkstar and Wildsong followed out of curiosity.
“I think I know how to unlock the popcorn machine,” Verde says. “I've heard the riddle somewhere before, and the answer is…egg.”
“Egg,” Hawkstar repeated. “But there are no letters in the password lock.” She gestured to the number pad on the popcorn machine.
“So it must have something to do with egg,” Wildsong said. “Maybe…”
“It’s numbers that look like the word egg,” Verde finished.
“Maybe it’s 344?” Hawkstar suggested. She tried the code, but it didn’t work.
“Or 399?” Wildsong said. She, too, attempted, but it didn’t work either.
“Oh, maybe it’s like letters to numbers, since the email invitation we received had a letters to numbers code,” Sempreverde said. “So it would be…577!”
Excitedly, Verde typed into the number pad 577, and it worked! The popcorn machine lid opened with a click, and she lifted the lid up slowly, the delicious aroma of popcorn filling the room.
Sempreverde scooped popcorn into one of the popcorn cups that were placed nearby, and ate one of them, smiling. “It's delicious! Get some!”
Hawkstar and Mizuki both eagerly took some out of the machine, and soon, other guests followed, drawn by the smell of popcorn. As soon as one cup of popcorn was taken, it seemed to be replaced by magic.
Afterwards, when everyone was satisfied from the popcorn, they dispersed, Cocoa cat and Silver Crystal going into the library to check out the Mystery books, Wildsong and Gloomy going into the indoor garden, Scuttles and Writing going back to their bedrooms to check if there actually was a mysterious box (there was, in the closet like Lyric said), and the rest of the guests heading to the lounge room to just chill or hang out.
Soon, everyone grew tired and headed back to their bedrooms. The moon rose in the night sky, and all was silent…almost.
~
The Entity was glowing in a strange way, unbeknownst to everyone else, who were fast asleep or just tossing and turning. It crackled like a great ball of electricity, reaching out its aura to one of the guests, fast asleep. The Entity wrapped its aura around the guest, possessing them.
The murderer had been chosen. And already, the Entity found its first victim.

Aaaaa I have a DNA-themed room?! *jumps up in down in happiness*
I love everything about this ski lodge already--the details, the mystery, the locked boxes...btw, I wonder what the boxes are for...maybe they're Pandora's box type-of-boxes.
(April 9, 2024 - 7:36 pm)
Just wondering, if you have an idea, what’s my room like? This is quite cool, by the way.
(April 9, 2024 - 11:49 pm)
Your room is the theme of a snowy alpine forest with a sky that turns indigo or royal blue depending on the time of day.
(April 10, 2024 - 4:27 pm)
May I ask what mine is?
(April 11, 2024 - 5:00 pm)
There's a new part! *New part happy dance* I'm loving this Lodge! I love it when lodges have themes, and the mystery theme works really well with a ski lodge! Excited to see what happens next!
(April 10, 2024 - 9:10 am)

Ooooooh, I wonder who the murderer is.

Since a lot of guests have been asking for room descriptions, here's a list of all of them (tell us if we've missed you!). Note: CAPTCHAs have mini-rooms within the room of a CBer, with around the same size as the small room underneath the stairs, pets however stay with a CBer with their own beds and corners
Room Descriptions:
Lyric: hot pink with DNA strands floating on the walls, a see-through clock on the wall with two dna strands that move like clock hands, and numbers that look like chromosomes
Nya: a library with fuchsia bookshelves and wallpaper
Darkvine: black and gold room with a green floor like grass and snake and dragon decor, a snake that tells time by bending like hands on a clock
Hawkstar: blue and purple with a large moonbow floating in the middle of the room, carpet that seems like a grassy meadow, a little hawk decoration that makes a sound every hour and tells the time
Scuttles: steampunk theme, bright colors accented with black, a mechanical clock with gears
Writing: whiteboard walls where you can draw on them and it appears in a random shade of blue, a small blue clock with numbers in a different font every day
Mizuki: dark, like the color of the night sky, dotted with stars, with a gradual gradient into pale yellow, then white, like a sunrise, a clock decorated with constellations with a different number of stars for each number
GloomyBear: purple and black gradient walls, Japanese art pieces hung on the walls, a clock with two colored markers for hands that change colors every single hour
Sempreverde: a snowy alpine forest with a sky that turns indigo during the night and royal blue during the day, as well as a clock in the shape of an aardvark
Cypress: forest-themed room, with mossy green walls that were covered with actual moss, a wood slice for a clock etched with numbers
Evergreen: ocean-themed room that looks like an underwater cave
Cocoa cat: a room that looks like Apollo’s cabin from Percy Jackson, solid gold walls when hit by sunlight from the window, bare white plaster walls when normal, flowers in pots in various places, most in shades of pink or yellow with green leaves, bookshelf of Percy Jackson books, a sundial for a clock
Wildsong: a forest underneath a purple-blue night sky with stars that twinkle, and a moon glows at night, like a night light, that when asked, shows the time digitally
Silver Crystal: a blue and purple mystic grove with hidden crystals everywhere, especially one big crystal that tells you the time by projecting it with glowing numbers onto the wall
