Poetry Contest
Poetry Contest
Well, we haven't had one of these in a while, have we? Time for a new one, I say! Welcome, resident poets!
The rules are pretty simple. I am the first judge. I will give you a theme, and you must write a poem relating to the theme. Be creative with your interpretations! I will then judge the entries by a set date, and the winner will then be the next judge, and set the next theme. And so on, and so forth.
The first theme will be... *dramatic drumroll*
Stars! Whether you chose to write about the kind of stars you wish on, or the kind that take the stage, I will be eagerly awaiting your sparkly, shiny, beautiful poems. Have them in by... Saturday, March 18. Two weeks. Sound fair?
I hope to see your poems soon!

Stars are so sparkly and shiny.
They are so big when they seem so tiny.
Lighter and brighter than blood is vermilion,
Hundreds of thousands and millions of billions.
Yeah, (sadly xD) I made that one. On the spot. I definitely didn't have to search what ryhmes with billion....
And...
OMGOSH I COULD BARELY JUDGE THIS YOU ARE ALL SO TALENTED. EMPHASIS ON THE TALENTED!!!!
4th Place Holder: Luna-Starr! This would normally be called Honorable Mention, but I just couldn't. I love it! It's so cute and imaginative!
3rd Place Holder: DoodleGirl! The "electric lights" part is my favorite! I love the theme.
2nd Place Holder: Summer! Rhyming is hard, and you did it so naturally and well! "Starlight, star bright,/I'm standing by your side tonight./"Never again," I promised when/my hand slid into yours that night." How romantic is that??? I love it!!!
1st Place Holder: Gecko! Your poem is simply magical! It could be published! (Can't find good enough words to congratulate this. I apoligize on behalf of my brain.)

Ahh wow thank you so much! I had no idea, I was not expecting that! And great job to everone else who entered, your poems were fantastic and I loved reading them!
The theme for the next contest is... ghosts
These could be literal ghosts or figurative ghosts, ghosts of the past, present or future. They could be the type that haunt you from the outside, or the type that comes from within, or they don't have to haunt you at all. They could be lovely, quiet ghosts, who curl up in you pocket as you walk and never make a peep.
Poems will be due two weeks from today, on Sunday, October 4th. I can't wait to read them then!

All your poems are amazing! Not just from the last contest, but from all of them! *applauds vigorously*
Alrighty then, here's my entry:
What if?
what if
there are ghosts
all around us?
what if,
when the air lies still
and the land seems deserted,
there are ghosts?
what if
when a secret lies untold,
a promise is left unspoken,
or a laugh is abandoned, unmade,
it becomes a wisp,
an echo,
a ghost?
what if, then,
when a secret is told,
a promise is spoken,
or a laugh is released, fully made,
the ghosts
are set free?
what if
they let out a sigh,
winter's wind on cracking ice,
and drift beyond
this realm?
what if?

This is kind of about my anxiety and self-loathing tendencies.
yesterday is haunting me
it whispers in my ears
you didn't do enough
a failure
useless
yesterday is taunting me
it holds back sleep
it wasn't good enough
a slacker
lazy
tomrrow seems daunting
but i will do my best

(October 1, 2020 - 4:47 pm)
Those who wander,
Aimlessly:
No time left to squander,
Time's passé;
Whose whispers are
lost to the wind
When those still living
Attentions' rescind;
Bound down by the thrashing sea,
Ships, long sunk,
Now chasing but a fading memory.
Silent shrieks still tell their tales,
A moment's secret spills from those gales,
Who is left to tell
their stories
unembellished and unerringly?
No one, for they are history's quarries.

I'm not sure what I think of this, but I thought I ought to enter something...
eternity
wandering aimlessly, lost in a fog
unable to touch anything
devoid of comforts, devoid of food, devoid of color
all alone, with no one to see
those who know me don’t see me
those who see me don’t know me
everything feels pointless
yet there’s no escape
i’m stuck as a ghost
for eternity
