Chatterbox: Pudding's Place

Poetry Contest

Poetry Contest

Well, we haven't had one of these in a while, have we? Time for a new one, I say! Welcome, resident poets!

The rules are pretty simple. I am the first judge. I will give you a theme, and you must write a poem relating to the theme. Be creative with your interpretations! I will then judge the entries by a set date, and the winner will then be the next judge, and set the next theme. And so on, and so forth.

The first theme will be... *dramatic drumroll*

Stars! Whether you chose to write about the kind of stars you wish on, or the kind that take the stage, I will be eagerly awaiting your sparkly, shiny, beautiful poems. Have them in by... Saturday, March 18. Two weeks. Sound fair?

I hope to see your poems soon!

Our hands we’d hold on those radiant days of a golden past

But the perfect script that we’d practiced and performed impeccably for so long

Was annihilated to shreds by an unknown director, and unseen force, an unbearable curse

And soon these hands are dragging me to an empty underworld of demons dancing.

Our lips we’d murmur dire promises, kiss, and talk for hours mocking our broken society.

But the glass floor, the only ground we knew, shattered under our feet, trapping me under

And now these lips taunt my frozen position of fear and fragility, fragmentation and burning fear

And I’m trying to run--but those cold lips whisper unspeakable curses in my ears

That are oblivious to all but the stinging, brittle words of my captator

I’m a prisoner, you're the key and the warden--you can unlock me or break me or warn me

I’m a piece of paper and you’re sharp scissors-you can cut me or turn me into something beautiful

I’m an artist and you’re a critic-you can give me a career-tearing reputation of good or bad

I’m a dreamer and you’re my nightmare-what kills you makes you stronger ... .or will it?

Our eyes, we’d stare into each others as if there was a hidden universe with endless possibilities

Somewhere tucked away in those folds of deep blue, and waves of fiery gold

But our world abruptly tipped upside down, and I never found an anchor

So now my eyes are dull with thousands of tears just like the dull gray paint of my prison cell

While you’re eyes are ignited with sheer excitement and mirth in your bright, happy paradise that Should’ve been mine long ago

Our ears we’d turn oblivious to the world except the simple melody and harmony of our love

But apparently the world was too loud for you too hear our sweet song of unity together,

And now our song runs silent, the gorgeous tune drowned out by another song,

The hollow song of misery and loneliness, the complex tune of revenge and hate

Outshining even the purest and mellifluous rhythm of hope and happiness and love.

Our hearts are too hollow, they used to be shimmering gold

Our minds are too empty, they used to be crammed with information

Our souls are too hopeful, they used to be content with our simple yet perfect life

Our bones are too brittle, they used to be flexible as a cat’s

Our legs are too numb to run the race of reality, a race we used to be true winners in

Our lives are just memory of what was done

Just a reflection of the other billions of people

Reminders that no matter how hard we try, we are not truly special

Refractions of past lives, even if it was our own

I don’t know what or how or when our world flipped-

But I know that no one

Battle-seasoned warriors used to the tension and agony of war

Starving children driven to the streets by such intense poverty

Can live with the simple yet unbreakable juxtaposition, the everlasting, immortal, powerful burden of

Love and hate

Haters gonna hate

Nobody said you were perfect,

Don't let them weigh you down,

Cause one day in the future,

You'll win the mighty crown,

Love is never gone,

It only changes,

Hate changes forms,

But it can be beaten,

Never let the hate get through,

Haters don't,

But lovers do.

Just reposting same poem- the copy/paste didn't work that well last time, left out the Italic

The way that you walk

Makes me smirk with like

That sashay swag makes me cringe

It's the worst

Your smile melts me down

Into a chocolate puddle

Such a smug grin

Turn down that ridiculous gleaming white

Of your teeth

How does your hair

Fall so perfectly

Over your eyes

So cute

Those bangs

Ugh

Why

So bad

I love how you make jokes

It makes me laugh

You think you funny

You not

I never knew something

Could be so bad

Your touch is so soft

And it never fails

To warm me

Get your hands away

I mean

Seriously

No touchie

Your eyes are just so deep

Full of humor and love

There are plenty of other ways

To look

Your gaze is like fire

And not in a good way

Your voice calling my name

Gives me chills

It does give me chills

The kind that say

“Go away, what do you want”

Love you

Hate you

Love you

Hate you

Love you

Hate you

The theme is curses, due the 29th. not two weeks, I know, but I'm leaving to be a camp counselor on the 30th and my internet connection will be spotty for the next month.

Glass Curses

you turned around and left me, leaving me with

tainted lenses and broken curses

and kept the key to my heart

for the collection on your dresser

you walked away, following the call of excitement

leaving me with no choice but to

break my heart open

to find myself again

you took the sun with you when you left

and made me make my own light in the darkness

and I started to realize how beautiful I could be on my own

I no longer live in your shadows, worshiping your light

my broken heart still hurts, but I've torn down its restraints

and its hurts are growing pains

as it finds new space to flourish

I bend down and pick up the remains

of my broken curses

and hold them up to the light

the colors cast a rainbow on the ground

hope is a thing with feathers

golden wings cannot be burned for they are already sun-kissed

i spread them and i soared; i was happy

perhaps only gliding on the winds of once

a fading sunset of memories, summer-tinged below the cool breeze

but it was real / and i loved / and i was loved

still, night is your domain and raven-feathered screams split the sky

the thunder carried a thousand curses

but i trusted you

and so i fell from the sky-

(why did you not catch me?)
