Chatterbox: Pudding's Place
Poetry Contest
Poetry Contest
Well, we haven't had one of these in a while, have we? Time for a new one, I say! Welcome, resident poets!
The rules are pretty simple. I am the first judge. I will give you a theme, and you must write a poem relating to the theme. Be creative with your interpretations! I will then judge the entries by a set date, and the winner will then be the next judge, and set the next theme. And so on, and so forth.
The first theme will be... *dramatic drumroll*
Stars! Whether you chose to write about the kind of stars you wish on, or the kind that take the stage, I will be eagerly awaiting your sparkly, shiny, beautiful poems. Have them in by... Saturday, March 18. Two weeks. Sound fair?
I hope to see your poems soon!

Crossing my fingers for the formatting!
drowning on dry land~
someone told me that loneliness
wasn’t really that bad, that loneliness
is easy to overcome, that all you have
to do is say hi, and boom—
you have friends, and that’s supposed
to solve the problem.
i don’t really think they understand
the true force, the true magnitude
of being alone.
if they did, i don’t suppose
they would say that, because it’s almost
impossible to escape such an overarching
greyness with no scars, you can’t forget
that easily, it’s a battle of the wits— how
long can you hold on?
i don’t suppose that everyone realizes that
loneliness is like drowning in the ocean,
being dragged down by something, something,
surrounded by people, but no one can seem to help.
i don’t suppose they realize that loneliness
is a gut-wrenching sort of feeling, like those
pre-presentation butterflies, but magnified by thousands,
like someone stabbed a knife into your soul and twisted,
loneliness isn’t temporary, darling,
look around, look around.

A little girl advances across an alleyway
A void of black space, suffocating her as she
Approaches
The roadblock
And as her breathing becomes labored,
As her heart pounds against her chest, becoming heavier by
the minute
She steps, and touches it with her hand
A wisp of darkness, of blackness, of forever, forever,
forever blackness
Wraps itself around her, and says:
Rules are
life’s roadblocks
The rules
are:
I) You can
do anything, but don’t cross the roadblocks
II) You can
be anything, but don’t cross the roadblocks
III) You can
have anything, but don’t cross the roadblocks
And the rules go on, on, on…
The wisp wraps tighter around the girl, and screams:
These very
same rules spoke in my jail cell
And they
said:
I) You can do
anything, but don’t cross the roadblocks
II) You can
be anything, but don’t cross the roadblocks
III) You
can-
How can these be rules?
How can I do anything, but not do the thing that clings to my
heart, my soul?
For I am already imprisoned, not against your grip around my heart,
but against the roadblock
For the roadblock doesn’t protect me from the things outside
It instead keeps me hidden in this oasis of hatred
The little girl peers over the roadblock
And she sees a
Mother
Father
Sister
Brother
Breaking free of the black void, she leaps over the roadblock
And flies into
Their arms

Ooh! I like this, Treble Clef!
(June 17, 2017 - 12:02 pm)
Everyone's poems are amazing! Are you going to judge soon?
(June 18, 2017 - 11:24 am)
Yes! I will probably end up judging tomorrow because I had unexpected Father's Day plans and I can't right now. I will accept poems until tomorrow when I judge, which will be around four o'clock.

@Leafpool and Kitten:
Thanks so much for saying that! You guys are really amazing writers, and it was nice of you to say that!
Everyone's poems are amazing. They're all amazingly beautiful.

I'm kind of sad that so few people joined, but they have been given time and have still not. So I will go on with judging.
Third place goes to Treble Clef. I loved the incorporation of the rules and how very crazy and stupid they were and how the poem ended. The fact that she got a family.
I couldn't choose a second place because, well you'll see. Unless you're not reading this in order.
And in first place we have..... Drumroll please....... Leafpool and September are actually tied. I can't simply chose one winner can I? I loved each of your poems so much, that I couldn't choose the better one. I congratulate you Leafpool, on overcoming your poet's block (if briefly) to write this glorious poem. I liked how they were about different aspects of lonliness, one describing and the other telling a story. I love how September used the simile in line 17 (yes I counted) about how loneliness is like drowning in an ocean and being surrounded by people but no one can help. And I loved the formatting on Leafy's and the emotion that was contained in the short little poem.
Honrable mention to Kitten for A) being the only other person participating, and B) for using science as a basis for your poem. I love science.
@Leafpool and September: You two can work out among yourselves which will judge, or you can collaborate. It's up to you.
(June 19, 2017 - 7:54 pm)
Yay, tied for first!! Congratulations to Treble Clef and Kitten as well!
Also, @Epic Fangirl, Leafpool's on a trip for the next couple of days and I don't know when she'll be back. . . I think that she should judge, so we'll put the poetry contest on hold until then?
