The dice clattered
The dice clattered on the table, Felix looking down at them lazily. The tavern around him was full of cheery laughter and talk, the lamps dim. It was midnight, and instead of sleeping, Felix was here, trying to make some extra cash.
"Doubles again, I guessed right!" Felix exclaimed, "Hand over the money!"
His opponent, a serious-looking young woman rolled her eyes and slid a pile of gold coins over. Felix grinned with satisfaction as he swept the gold coins into his purse with a pleasant clinking. "Pleasure!" he said, giving a small bow to the woman, before skipping out into the night.
Felix whistled to himself as he strolled through the streets of Paralia. The air was mild and warm, and Felix was perfectly happy to stay here and make some extra money while he figured out how to travel without getting shot by the Resistance or Catastrophe's army.
The quaint storefronts were mostly closed, with wooden boards covering the windows for the night. It wasn't quite safe anywhere anymore, but Felix could live with that, it was fine.
Felix turned a corner, and almost tripped over a tent stake.
Jumping up, Felix looked around curiously. A lime green tent was tacked to the ground, that had definitely not been there the day before. He looked up at the sign. It read 'Millie's Fortune Telling' in garishly painted rainbow letters.
Ooh! Fortune telling! Wonder how much it costs?
With not an ounce of hesitation, Felix ducked inside the tent.
Inside, it was dark, and Felix caught the strong scent of peppermint. Peculiar photos with bullet holes shot through them, and playing cards, and strange things hung from the velvet walls of the tent. A hooded figure sat at a lime green table, on which stood a single foggy crystal ball.
"Hey! What's that?" Felix greeted, pointing curiously at a certain photo, which seemed to be of a white flower, that looked unexplainably wrong.
"Nothing," the hooded figure said, "Why are you here?"
Felix shrugged. "You're a fortune teller, right?"
"Duh."
"Alright, can you tell me my fortune?!"
"It costs two coins."
Felix drew two coins from his purse, and flicked them at the fortune teller. He could've sworn that they rolled their eyes, if he could've seen their eyes.
"Alright," they said, leaning forward and placing their hands on the crystal ball, "look into the crystal ball and tell me what you see."
Felix stared into the white crystal ball. A speeding horse broke through the fog, dashing through the crystal ball, until suddenly, it keeled over, and was replaced with a white flower, sprouting from its body. The white flower swirled through the mist, growing larger and larger and larger, but then–a sudden gunshot rang out, and the crystal ball went blank.
"I saw a horse! And a white flower! And then I heard a gunshot! What does the gunshot mean?"
"The horse means you'll be traveling a lot. The white flower means regret. And the gunshot ..."
The hooded figure jumped up, and poked their head outside the tent. "The gunshot means it's time to leave."
With a swirl of green mist, Felix stumbled back, outside the tent, and watched as it folded itself up, into a tiny velvet package, and darted down an alleyway.
Felix got up, a little disorented, and looked around. People were running, and the clang of metal and sounds of fighting drifted towards him. Something had happened.
Definitely time to leave, Felix thought, pocketing the picture of the white flower he had stolen from the tent, and slipping down a side street. Paralia had fallen to fighting. It was time to do some traveling.

Dude, I have no idea where I'm going to take this, oh whale :p

Goldenfeather~
I struggle through the storm, then give up.
"We have to land on the water. My wings can't take all the water, they're not used to it."
I sweep down to land on the surface of water, breathing heavily. I glide softly, slightly above, until the pelting droplets force me to land on the water.
"Sorry, I didn't realize there would be a storm."

I shrug. "It's fine," I reassure her. "So... I know you probably won't tell me about your past, but... well, I have to admit, I am curious. How much have you traveled?"
(January 23, 2021 - 9:55 am)
Goldenfeather~
For a moment, all is silence. I think about it.
"I'll tell you."
I take a deep breath.
"I used to travel with a shapeshifter named Spirit. She died, in a battle, shot by humans. I've traveled a lot since then. Almost been to every place in this place, whatever it's called. I don't remember any more. It's been a long, long time."
I sigh. Those were the good days, the days I was young and fit for traveling a long distance across the seas.
"It was then I picked up traveling as a hobby."
"To remember Spirit."

Silence falls again. "I-I'm sorry." It doesn't feel like enough, but I can't offer more. "I guess now I should tell you my story." Goldenfeather doesn't say anything, but looks back at me. I sigh. "Okay. I come from the far Icy North. When I was a kit, I lived there with my family. Then... everything changed. I came back one day and it was all gone. I've been traveling since then. One day I will find what killed my family." I glance up at the dragon. I can't read the look in her eyes. "I can't believe I just told you that," I say, looking down again. But it feels good not to be the only one who knows.
(January 24, 2021 - 1:17 pm)
Goldenfeather-
I sigh. "Guess we both have strange lives. Someday, maybe we'll find others...."
I gaze off into the distance. Life is short.

The silence grows uncomfortable. I realise the rain has lightened. "Goldenfeather, can you fly now? Or is it still too wet?"
She looks up at the sky, then back at me. "I'm not sure. My feathers are pretty wet, but I can try." The dragon raises her wings and lifts us into the sky.
(January 25, 2021 - 11:05 am)
Felix traveled through a maze of alleyways, before finally accepting the fact that it was impossible to know where he was going, especially as the drops of rain started to grow heavier and fall faster.
A gunshot rang out, dangerously close, and he ducked down an alleyway, pressing himself up against the wall. Not even luck would save him from a bullet.
The slapping of feet against cobblestones receded, and Felix was safe to move. He was about to let out a sigh of relief, when a sudden chill ran down his back.
There was someone else in the alley with him.
His eyes flicking around, Felix noticed a figure, hunched over a body. Blood pooled on the cobbled stones, mixing with rainwater and trickling through the cracks. Their hands fumbled with a needle, trying to stitch together a wound with shaking hands.
"Hello...?" Felix asked softly.
A flash of lightning illuminated the figure in a harsh light. Felix caught his breath.
---
Not sure what Kimiko looks like, not sure who Kimiko is, but Felix doesn't know either so it all works out! :D
(January 16, 2021 - 12:40 pm)
"Hello...?"
Fear flashes through me and I panic, dropping the needle onto the barely concious soldier's body. I turn to see the newcomer, and lightning strikes a nearby rooftop, and the streets glow for a moment.
The newcomer is illuminated for just a second, but I see they're a man--probably a human--close-ish to my age, maybe a little older. His hair is light-colored, and tied in a ponytail. I also note that his clothes are remarkably clean for being in a warzone--definitely not a soldier, then.
He gasps, and takes a step backwards. There were so many things that could have made him do that--the mud and blood all over me, my metal arm, or maybe my dark hair that clearly hadn't been brushed in the last several weeks.
"Who are you?" He asks. I don't know, I want to say. I don't remember, and I don't want to remember.
But instead, I say, "...Kit." It feels better than Kimiko--there's no history tied to the name Kit. Kit is a new person, a new identity. The dying soldier makes a noise and I can feel myself starting to panic again.
"Do you....need help?"
"Maybe. Yes. I don't know," I say, plainly. My real hand, the left one, is shaking uncontrollably, but my metal hand stays steady. I try to thread the needle, but prick myself and drop it again.
The newcomer--I realize I never asked for his name--bends down next to me. He winces when he sees the soldier's wound, which is almost completely sealed up, but still gross.
"I won't blame you if you vomit." My voice is quiet, and for a moment I regret saying it, but then the newcomer flashes a small smile.
I pick up the needle again. Something about having someone there is comforting and my hands are steadier. I manage to seal up the wound all the way. I notice the soldier's ears--they're pointed, so he must be an elf of some sort.
I turn to the newcomer. "Is there a...hospital, or something? Somewhere we could take him?"
~~~
Kit is Kimiko's new name. I'm going to make a new charrie sheet for them soon, but they use they/them pronouns now.
The rain soon stops completely, and eventually I see land ahead. It's only a small island, but Goldenfeather swoops higher, her feathers already sky blue. She keeps going over it - the island looks like it's only inhabited by sheep - and we see a couple more islands beyond it. Behind them, misty cliffs rise high above the waves. The Labyrinth Lands. Goldenfeather circles down and lands on the smallest of the islands. The sun is low on the horizon by now, the sky just beginning to turn orange.
~~~
(I'm assuming they'll want to rest before continuing and exploring the Labyrinth Lands.)
(January 31, 2021 - 11:28 am)
Hola! Sorry I haven't posted for so long.
I sigh and bury myself into the sand. Ah. I miss the feeling of sand. I kill a sheep and bring it back, picking out some of the meat and shearing the wool before giving the rest to Silverwhisker. I start to scavenge for some berries.
(February 12, 2021 - 6:33 pm)
~Silverwhisker
I dip my head, thanking Goldenfeather for the sheep, and eat some. My paws unconciously start kneading the soft sand. Goldenfeather is still scouting the area. Stretching out on the sun-warmed sand, I'm about to drop off to sleep when I see a dark shadow in the sky over the huge mesa where the Labyrinth is. And it's heading straight towards us.
~~~
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Or a dragon? I don't know, but we need something interesting to happen. (:
(February 13, 2021 - 1:33 pm)
Goldenfeather-
I notice the dark shape immediatley.
"Stay here. Please. I'll be right back. Stay under cover. Do not show yourself. I'll be fine."
I honestly don't think I'll be fine, but I can't let Silverwhisker see I'm scared- no, suspicious- of the shadow. I mean, I flew through a storm. I'll be fine.
I take a deep breath and straighten up.
"I can come with you if you'd like-" Silverwhisker starts.
I normally don't interupt others, but this time I have to. "No. Stay here, stay undercover, stay safe. I'll be right back."
I arch my wings until they catch the sunlight, then they slowly fizzle into nothingness- i mean, they blend into the background. I dash into the sky- and lo and behold, there lies another dragon. I shift into my brighter colors. I barrel into the dragon and pin them to the sand below.
"Listen up, stranger. Who are you. And why are you here. You stalking u- me?" I can't let them know Silverwhisker is here. If I'm in danger, so is she. And it's better for me to be taken than her. I have a few trick- uh, escape strategies- up my sleeve- or fur.
(So, I don't know- what if Goldenfeather secretly has a crush on Silverwhisker? That could be fun.)
(February 15, 2021 - 1:14 am)
~Silverwhisker
She's gone before I can form a reply. I can't see her behind her camouflage, until the dark shape is knocked from the sky by my golden friend. They spiral towards the ground on the island we stopped at. I dash into a nearby blackberry bush and crouch low, watching as Goldenfeather pummels the stranger - another dragon, to my surprise, with questions.
~~~
Oooh, that would be interesting. And Silverwhisker could be completely clueless about it :). Or they could just be friends; I'm not very good at romance...
Anyway, if somebody else wants to join our little quest/journey here, feel free to jump in as this mystery dragon!
(February 15, 2021 - 11:57 am)
oh my kyngdom! I'm gonna do a little revival of Ghost- she was a good character that I treasured.
Ghost-
I grumble. Great. Then I look up.
"Goldenfeather?"
Goldenfeather looks surprised, and lets me up. "Ghost? How- what- when- where- why?"
"Um I escaped."
"I want you to meet my new traveling companion, Silverwhisker. We're visiting the Labyrinth Lands."
I shift back into a human, then follow Goldenfeather.
Goldenfeather-
"Silverwhisker! It's just my old traveling companion Ghost! You can come out!"
Silverwhisker slides out from a blackberry bush.
"Er, it's nice to meet you. Silverwhisker, right? I'm Ghost." Ghost says.
"Yes, I'm Silverwhisker. It's nice to meet you, Ghost." Silverwhisker replies.
I hiss. It seems like they're ignoring me, the way they're talking. Silverwhisker- I mean- they-why would they leave me like this?
I lash my tail angrily on the ground, and silently camoflauge against the trunk of a tree, then slink into the ocean. There'll be another storm coming. Best take shelter.
I give one last angry glare to Ghost, then disappear, into the clouds.
Ghost-
"Hey, where's Golden?" I say, after looking at the place Goldenfeather used to be. She seemingly disappeared.
(Drama! Goldenfeather is one of those assume-first, attack-later kind of animals. she jumps to conclusions easily. Ghost is a shapeshifter character.)
(February 15, 2021 - 2:06 pm)
omg i forgot something in my last post!
Goldenfeather-
*this is before she left*
I scribble something hastily on a leaf.
"I'll miss you, Silver."
I leave it behind a bush, the one she hid in.
