MYTHS AND LEGENDS

This Book of Myths and Legends is intended to inform, illuminate, educate, and elucidate. But the trepidatious Reader must proceed with caution. Once the Reader has filled their mind with thoughts of Beasts, the Reader can no longer un-know them. Sometimes, the only safeguard against the shuddersome creatures that stalk this Globe is to utterly deny their existence.

okay, i'm kind of creating a group specifically for my character to be a part of? a species kind of? don't know if that's frowned upon. don't worry, it isn't a "creating a powerful species so my character can be powerful" situation.  more, "making a bunch of silly horrible guys to suit my personal silly horrible guy." and you can make your own members of this species. i encourage it.

SLAUGH

_________

The Slaugh are one of many seperate Lineages of Vampires, although they are often confused for Ghouls or Zombies. It is not a difficult mistake to make, though that in no way prevents them from being utterly infuriated at any implication of some sort of connection between themselves and other groups.

The Slaugh Lineage is differentiated from the other Lineages in several key ways. While most Vampire Lineages pride themselves on elegance, aristocracy, and their high culture, the Slaugh... do not. They are ruled by small groups of authoritarian leaders, yes, but to call them aristocrats would be very generous, beyond any reason. As opposed to the tombs and castles of their kin, may Slaugh live in sewers and crowded Broods--that is, systems of tunnels dug below graveyards and urban settlements. The Slaugh are rarely conventionally beautiful, those who find themselves turned by a Slaugh may find themselves rotting or malformed, and even those born into Slaugh Lineage are often deformed. Pale, bug-eyed, long, thinning hair, and mouths full of uneven, sharp teeth... Clear signs of a Slaugh. Not to say some of them don't make it work.

The way Vampirism manifests is unusual among them. As opposed to the typical two, elongated fangs, the Slaugh have mouths filled with fangs, designed for eating carrion. Slaugh not only feed on blood, but also corpses. It's not pretty, but it is true. While a Slaugh can sustain itself solely on blood, it cannot do so comfortably.

Like many of the older Vampire lineages, Slaugh view themselves as the only true vampires, and all others as vain pretenders to their throne. Vampires are contentious people. The Slaugh claim that Great Cain,  their founder, was the first vampire. While he can be factually stated to have been among the first vampires, most historians note the immense unlikelyhood of him in fact having been the very first. He is, however, one of the only Old Founders to still be alive. (for a certain definition of the word alive.) Unfortunately, age has rendered him essentially brain dead.

Individual Slaugh Clans are led by a Wormeater--Typically the eldest Vampire among them, male female or otherwise. The Slaugh as a collective body are supposedly ruled by Cain, however, due to his ill-state, they are in actuality ruled by twelve elders, who can supposedly "divine Cain's will." Of course, individual Clans have no real obligation to any elder, and often defy their law. Slaugh society exists perpetually at the very edge of a total collapse into anarchy.

Their relations with other groups rely strongly on indivual Wormeater's beliefs. Many Clans side with Catastrophe, due to longstanding hatred toward the Power's and SAP's alike. Others sided with the Resistence due to their lack of a unified leader, and the traditional Slaugh refusal of any leader beside Cain. Still others, these ones fundamentalist Vampire supremacists, sided with no side, due to a deep-seated hate toward animals, humans, and any other species.

Enemies of the Slaugh, and The Slaugh have many enemies, are of the opinion that the Slaugh are feral, untrustworthy, machiavellian scavengers. The Slaugh are aware that this is probably the case, but add that they are right to be so.

PUR GOWEN FAMILY LINEAGE:

From Haudrian (no documented parent) and his first wife, Haran, Daughter of Tetran, came Sherrmin. From Sherrmin came Arash, Architect of The Deep House. Sherrmin challenged Haudrian for his seat as patriarch, and Haudrian killed both Sherrmin and his mother.

From Haudrian and his second wife, Sara, came Ersak, Elder. He was born wise, and raised in The Deep House, and in The pur Gowen Way.  Ersak, Elder, was gifted great wisdom, but not strength. When he was young, he was almost killed by Haudrian, but Sara managed to save him. Haudrian then killed Sara, which grieved him greatly, but he felt it was necessary.

From Ersak, Elder, and Refek, Daughter of Cashon, came Virgil and Irshu. Virgil became crafty, and Irshu became strong. Irshu hated Virgil for his "unmanliness," and refused to share the bloodline with him. The two fought for the rights, and Virgil won, despite being horribly wounded. Thus, Irshu has no descendents.

From Virgil, Son of Ersak, and Zirrah, daughter of Castron, came Simeon, Carta, and Rachel, Formerly Benjamin. Rachel and Simeon were put through the Gowen Way, and Carta became a nurse. Carta, Daughter of Virgil married Cleo, Daughter of Schaum. Simeon grew in strength and diminished in wisdom, and Rachel grew in bravery.

Auren Trees

Auren trees (also known as Aure trees, or Auran trees) are a species of tree found in the forest of Morrows. Legends say that a fairy named Aure enchanted these trees long ago, but the truth has since been lost to time. Furniture carved from Auren wood becomes animated -- though not self-concious (see: my front desk in the Woodland RP). Despite this, Auren trees are not widely known in the greater Kyngdom, and are seen as very commonplace in Morrows. They are identifiable by their long branches full of needles (the evergreen kind) and the strange curved markings on their trunks. They often smell of cinnamon.

Of the Liches:
Many decades ago, before the counting of years had begun, there was a great nobyl of a family who have long passed. His name was Sir Alexander of the House of Pur Enalion. He was esteemed for being a great solider, and went on hunts with his companions.
On a hunt for Ghouls, Sir Alexander lost the path, stumbling to the misted wood. His horse, exhausted and weary, collapsed and fell against a tree. Alexander was left to wander the woods on foot.
Through many paths he stumbled, until he came to a place where the trees were thicker. Brambles formed a wall around this thicket, and ere he made his way through it he was scarred and bleeding. But when finally he passed through, he saw a cottage.
He rapped on the door as loudly as he could, and a haggard old lady opened the door. Her face was wrinkled, dark circles covered her eyes, and her long hair, black as the night, fell down to her waist. A dress she wore, dark as her hair, and a cape was fastened round her neck.
In a rasping voice she spoke: 'Would thou weary wish for hospitality of an old woman? So be it.'
She opened the door, and Sir Alexander tripped inside. The door shut behind him.
The house, covered in an array of strange things, was dark. Turning around, he saw no sign of the old lady. From behind him, a loud cackling filled the room.
A chanting began: Alev, Relev, Elenae, Alev, Relev, Elanae. Over and over, until Alexander dropped to the ground and cried for mercy. He felt the old lady's cold, hard, sharp finger close around his neck.
She chocked him until he asked, 'Please lady, in exange for my life I will grant you unimaginable wealth and power!'
This she agreed to. 'But first,' she cackled, 'The spirits must grant you life.'
Then the chanting began again. All faded.
When Sir Alexander awoke, he knew not himself. His flesh had dissolved, and a hard bone-shell replaced it. He felt magics swirl about him, and great power at his disposal. His face was as a skull's, but he was more intellegent then the most esteemed human.
Thus, though his body forever withered, and his mind all-powerful, came the first of the Lich.

Camazotz Vampires

The Camazotz lineage of vampirism is an ancient one. Originating in the early days of Kyngdom, it began as a disease spread by a certain group of vampire bats living in southwestern Kyngdom. The disease was created by the spirits they worshipped, giving humans a reason to fear them so that their habitats would not be encroached upon. Any human bitten by these cursed bats would become a vampire. The infection takes a few days to set in-- it can only be cured within this period by powerful magics.

Camazotz vampires retain many bat-like features due to the nature of their infection. They can transform into bats and require blood to survive; however, animal blood can be used as a substitute. Camazotz vampires typically have red eyes due to their infection. They are extremely weak to sunlight, which can ignite them almost instantly. In modern times, certain magic can help to prevent this, but many harbor such a deep fear of the Sun they would never risk going out in it anyway. Camazotz vampires have come to worship the spirits that created their strain of vampirism. This has granted them dark magic abilities to some extent, provided they remain loyal to the spirits. They do not age and can live for eternity. Many of them have little interest in the war, but due to their power-hungry nature some of them have allied themselves with Catastrophe.

Camazotz vampires tend to live in colonies or are connected to one. They have something of a weak hive mind and can generally sense each other. Sires have some control over their "children" as well. Most of their colonies are ruled by the local vampire that is oldest or most powerful. They are generally distrustful of other types of vampires. Most Camazotz vampires prefer to remain distant from human affairs, keeping their vampiric identity secret. They enjoy living in the shadows of Kyngdom's life, influencing things from afar.
