MYTHS AND LEGENDS
This Book of Myths and Legends is intended to inform, illuminate, educate, and elucidate. But the trepidatious Reader must proceed with caution. Once the Reader has filled their mind with thoughts of Beasts, the Reader can no longer un-know them. Sometimes, the only safeguard against the shuddersome creatures that stalk this Globe is to utterly deny their existence.

Beast the First: The Gryphon
The dread Gryphon is known for its duality. All nations instantly recognize its lion’s body and eagle’s head, but fewer know of its paradoxical inner nature. The Gryphon is slow to anger, but once angered, it is infinite in its thirst for vengeance. It will slay indiscriminately when it feels threatened, but eats only mountainous grasses. When it sleeps, it purrs like a housecat—but woe to the warrior who tries to wake the Gryphon.
Nevertheless, the Gryphon can be a companionable creature and longs for its own kind. Unfortunately for this secretly social beast, its species has been slowly dying out over the past thousand years. The last known Gryphon was spotted on the crest of Bleak Peak four hundred years ago, howling into the night. It is largely assumed that this Gryphon eventually died of loneliness.

Beast the Second: The Song of War Bird
A reticent creature by nature, the Song of War bird is known for its brilliant violet plumage and bone-chilling cries that signify the approach of violence. It lives off the first tree saps of springtime and, in the winter, chips ice from frozen lakes to slake its thirst.
When violence is far off, the Song of War bird appears timid and reluctant to sing. But when war approaches, it tilts its purple throat to the sky and sings a song that flickers up the scale until it can barely be heard by any animal ear. Scholars have studied the Song of War bird for centuries, hoping to pinpoint the patterns of violence and thus bring peace to the world forever. However, it is not known if the bird’s cries are warnings, or something far more sinister: expressions of joy and anticipation.

A couple days ago I was walking at the base of a mountain when I spotted this creature.
I have no picture so I will do my best to describe the beast I stumbled upon.
Since I have no proof that this creature is a new discovery, I will refer to it as a siren. The siren's appearance looks like, well, a siren (hence my temporary name). But it's greatest difference from the deadly fish is it's scaly legs and wings along with it's friendly attitude. Although I advise not to come too close, for the siren's unusual body makes most visitors flinch and, well, it has, in my opinion, a short temper when it comes to those things. And if you didn't notice I have been avoiding the description of the face. The face is probably the most human-like feature and reminded me of the siren. The face is of any living creature's "true love" with lack of better wording.
Not to brag or toot my own horn but I just wanted to share this new discovery, and please if you need me, just ask, because even in my old age my magic is still mostly intact.

Anderithia, I believe I have seen the mystical beast hat you discribe. Once when I was very young, I came across the same beast that you discribe. It did not speak, but I could tell it looked broken. It`s body was fine, though unearthly, but it`s eyes told of some tradgety. I tried to reach my mind out to it, but all i could see was a mass of darkness. Later I read over the elven scrolls and read nothing of this beast. Puzzled, I wrote my own dicription of it, leaving out the name.

I have seen the Song of The War bird twice in my lng, long life. You can only see the true beauty of it in real life, but this picture is the clocest depiction I have seen in a forever and a day. Thank you Dr.Sheepshank for explaining the Song of The War bird, for I believe everyone should know of it`s being, but I only know of it being told in Elven books.

Salutations to you all. I am Roselyn Moon, elvin protecter of the Silver Springs. I have recently heard tell of your plight and the... shall we say disagreement between B.I.G and the animal spies. I have been watching from afar for a number of weeks and have finally made the decision to leave my post as protector of the Silver Springs and send you the aid of my people. I bear the inheritance of both the Old and New elvin bloodlines and hope to use my powers to aid you in the resolution of your plight.
