Solo Write~Guardians of Liritar

There is a little smoke from the fire, drifting upwards with the mystic scent of burning pine. The old man nods, looking upwards at the stars. He is a little man now, leaning forward with his arms on his knees and his bright eyes never fixed on one place, his silver hair falling into his eyes a little; but you see suddenly how he might once have been a great lord, a wild princeling from wild mountains, a man who you might have died for if you had known him then.

But that was a long time ago. Right now, you're too desparate to know about the present.

"Yes," the old man begins, his quavering voice low to make no disturbance in the peaceful night, "there used to be ten Guadians, Guardians of Liritar they were called - 'Liritar', all that is good..."

~

There used to be ten guardians: one for each element, or key. The elements were hope, light, earth, air, fire, water, pines, love, promises, and night. But those ten Guardians are gone. Somewhere, into the darkness. And without them the world is not the same; evil is fighting in distant lands for power over what the Guardians once protected.

The Guardians must return.

If you join, please sign up a Guardian and another (human) charrie. No more than one guardian of each power, please.

Yes, the end already, amazingly! Thank you so much for your comments :)) @Celine, I'm starting to realize that a lot of the solo write probably does show some Narnia influence. Now I'm wondering if I should write a sequel to this one as well as to my Middle-Earth one... Anyway, here's the Epilogue and Extra Bits, as promised~

*Epilogue*

It was spring again. Luna smiled as she walked through the familiar green lands, seeing Fernglade Inn rise up ahead of her. Back at the Fernglade. After all the forever of being spell-locked, as the term was, she was still so happy about the return of her old life.

Not completely her old life, though.

She saw Ros lounging about against the wall of the back porch, and hailed him with a smile. The Guardians of hope and night had always been close. "How've you been?" she asked, pausing close to the door.

"All right." Ros' eye was a half-laughing, half-wry light blue. "I'm still not used to being the favorite Guardian, though. All the companions seem very fond of me."

"I know," Luna admitted. "It's more or less the same with me. I'm not sure if we're more charming than we realize or if it's just the perks of having our particular elements. Speaking of the companions - who's arrived?"

"Everyone, I think," Ros said. "You're the last one, as usual."

"As usual, indeed." Luna gave him a mock-offended stare. "Wylie and Ji are the ones who like to be late. Let's go in - I've got news."

They entered together, suprising Avi and Rowan, who had been lingering in the room just behind the main one and talking. "Come along, you two," Luna said gaily. "You can talk later."

The main room, the one where Daniel had met the other companions ages ago, was filled with light and laughter. The firelight caught on Alyssa's hair, on a goblet on the table, on vibrant clothes, and reflected in Luna's eyes. All the companions and Guardians had gathered.

"I'm here!" Luna cried, and everyone turned towards her. Teryar and Phaidon had come too, to be with their girlfriends, and smiles were everywhere.

"I've heard some news," Luna added. "Orilon is back in the Mountain Lands, first of all."

"That's wonderful," Alice said happily.

"It is. The Rose Magic helped. It seems that the nobles who took over were backed by Ivkatorr, who wanted to try to get control over these lands in that way too. So the nobles have crumbled, and Orilon's back."

"Thank goodness - now he can get someone to help him keep his fires going," Silver said with a laugh.

"No one did find out what happened to Ivkatorr, then?" Kalisse asked.

"No. He seems to have vanished," Lilly said softly.

"All the better," Vaytern said. "Any other news, Luna?"

"Just that the border-castle is finally back, with all its magic restored," Luna told them. "And everything that went wrong is right again."

Twilight was finding its way softly over the land, but Fernglade had golden light and laughter to spare as the people in it crowded around the tables for supper, talking and just being together. There was no more darkness.

The Companion Prophecy:

Twenty people far from home;

Ten companions wanting to roam;

A dangerous power that prevails,

The fear that all good will fail.

The Guardians imprisoned are,

Spell-locked, time-locked - who will dare

To fight a magic dark and deep?

They're coming - coming; they only sleep.

--

Ten companions, needing you;

Ten companions, strong and true

Will come, when you are needing them

To seek out your freeing spell.

Their journeys are for you, and yet

They'll find themselves, their safety-net

A way to catch them when they fall,

A way to love - they'll find it all.

--

When you're afraid no one will dare,

They'll find, and set free, Liritar.

~

And the times at which things happened:

Day 1: Daniel and Alice arrive in Eriltar; Daniel meets up with the other seven at Fernglade.

Day 2: The letter arrives. Eight of the companions read it and set out for Intaril; Alice and Silver also read it and go eastwards. They spend part of the night at Swallow Lake, where they meet Orilon.

Day 3: The companions arrive at Eviton's border-castle. The Guardians try to reclaim their side powers. Phaidon betrays Eviton, and Ivkatorr sets the border-castle on fire. Baiji reclaims her side powers; Phaidon defies Ivkatorr; Sterling and Ronald discover the secret of the Rose Magic.

Day 4: More Guardians reclaim their side powers, and the companions set off eastwards again to reach Airen.

Day 11: Teryar and Phaidon rejoin the companions.

A few days later: The companions reach the Mountain Lands and meet the Mountain People.

Day 1 of autumn: Companions reach Irtan and evade Ivkatorr's spell to keep them there. They reach Airen, get a link to the Guardians that enables them to share their side powers, defeat Ivkatorr, and wake the Rose Magic.
