KotLC RP!Hey

KotLC RP!

Hey, guys! I recently got into Keeper of the Lost Cities, and I've noticed that some of you like it too, so I thought I'd make an RP. I'll put the character sheet, then the rules, and a basic description of the series for anyone who doesn't know. I'm also going to create the first comment on this thread as a "General Comment", so that anyone who joins late can see the plot so far. Now, let's get started!

Character Sheet:

Name:

Age:

Appearance:

Ability(s):

Home name:

School:

School Level, if needed:

RULES

-Your character may bear similarities to a character in the book, but you can't RP as a character in the book.

-Your character can have more than one ability.

-You can have as many characters as you want, though try to keep it to 3.

-Try not to lead the plot like it is in the series!

-Characters from the books can exist, but just as side characters. Don't involve any book characters in major things.

Series Description (with as few spoilers as possible):

Keeper of the Lost Cities is a currently 8.5 book series (more coming soon). The series is about a girl named Sophie Foster who finds out she's an elf, though they're not what we usually picture them to be. They look like humans, only they dress differently. (Usually tunics and pants with capes and cloaks, though girls wear dresses when going about if they're in nobility) and they live in what are called the "Lost Cities", called this because they are lost to humans. For example, Atlantis is a Lost City. Anyway, Sophie we discover is the creation of a group called the Black Swan, whose total motives and reasoning are still unknown. Right now, the Council, a group of elvin leaders who are basically the government, want to find them because they are going against elvin law. (Like going into the "Forbbiden Cities" which is the human world.) Though no one knows exactly who is in the Black Swan, or basically anything about them. Sophie has multiple special and enhanced abilities (like she's a telepath with an inpentrable mind) because the Black Swan created her and tweaked her genes. She has information that she can't access stored away in her mind, and is only given clues here and there by the Black Swan to help both humans and elves.

That's it!

I like that! One of our characters meeting the human. So, the human kid somehow has ablitites? Should we vote on what ablity(s) he/she has? Also I'd LOVE it if the Tolkien descentands group had some ring gadet and had a ring name. Also, yeah, I don't think Tolkien will actually BE there, just his kids, grandkids, great grandkids, ect.
Is the human kid going to be with the Tolkien people or the evil, bitter people?  Is he/she going to BE one of his descentdants? His great niece/nephew, maybe?

Oh, I like the idea of the human being Tolkien's decendant (and yes, I agree we should not use Tolkien himself - that was a misstep on my part)! And if the elves figured out a way to give an ability to the human, that would be great! The only issue would be how our characters would figure out that they were human...

But, I was wondering if the human child maybe was supposed to be working with the evil people, but maybe doesn't want to? I'm not sure on this part though.

And, if the group of Humans and Elves that try to move into Atlantis are named after a group from Tolkien, I think that would be really interesting.

Plus, the ring communication sounds really interesting.

BTW, I'm still just brainstorming, so if anyone doesn't like the ideas here, it is absolutly okay. (:

Yeah, like, maybe the elves and human kid found out about the evil part of the group, and the kid didn't want to be like that.

Human child - I think he should be a male, I don't have a strong opinion though so whatever :) Anyway, maybe a Vanisher, to be able to sneak into Atlantis? Or a Beguiler, so he can persuade people to let humans in better. Ooh, maybe a Telepath, because the Council likes to keep them in the nobility? I'm trying to think of new abilities, I think that'd be cool, but I can't think of any now.

Neverseen, I love the human kid working with the evil people idea! Well, supposed to be.

Also, can we figure out the human kid's abilites/name/whatever, and then start the RP? And we can keep brainstorming the plot, just also be working on the story.

Yeah, we should start moving.
I think vanisher and telepath, although I have no idea how the human kid would have these powers, since, ya know, human.
Male's fine with me, I have no idea what his name should be though. Does he have a code name the elves use?

Vanisher and Telepath work for me too, as long there is still a way to tell he is a human. Like, I know it needs to be subtle and discrete so that not all elves will realise it, but there has to be something. That way, only the elf/human group would no it was him and that he was human (I am figuring the elves here altered his genetics).Ooh! What if his eyes are a different color, but he just dies them blue? And then, he comes to school one day and his eyes are a different color 'cause he forgot to use it? And then maybe it tips off our characters that he is not normal and they, like, find a marking on his locker or something? Eh - that plan probably needs a little work.  Also, if anyone has some ideas for his name, you can resopond to this comment with them. I have a few, but I'm not sure if any of them are that good. Next, any ideas for what year this boy's going to be in?

I've never read the Tolkien books, would that have anything to do with the RP? I'm also slightly confused at where this is going.

No, it doesn't matter if you haven't read his books. These people are just going to be some of his descentdants. So far, I think we have a group of humans working with elves to get back to Atlantis. Part of that group just wants to live with the elves again (that's Tolkien's people) and part are really bitter and want the elves' world for themselves. They are going to have this human kid adopted into elvin society. Somehow, his genetics have been messed with so he has two abilites: telepath and vanisher. His eyes are a different color than a normal elf but he dyes them blue. (could the real eye color be green? Sophie was already brown) One day, he will forget to put the dye in, or it will wear off, or something and our kids will notice and confront him. I think. I like the eye idea, Neverseen.

Oh, I don't think it's really important that you haven't read the Tolkien books - we are mainly just taking A) some names for an organizarion and B) the author and his decendants. I've only read The Hobit and, like, part of the first book in the Trilogy of the Ring myself. And (if I am correct, let me know if I am wrong), the story so far is...

A select group of Humans have finally discovered the Elves, and would like to get there territory back. In other words, they want to be able to reinhabit Atlantis, there original domain. They are generally okay with coincideing with the Elves, but some of the Humans are different. Some of them are angry, and want to attempt to overthrow the Elves. But, the Elves do not know of this. Well, some do, but only a very, very small few. They have formed and organization to get the Humans back into Atlantis, but they do not know of the rebelers who want to take over...

And in the middle of this, one human child has been manipulated. The organization has alterd the genes of an innocent unborn male human, giving him Elven abilities. From the momnet he is born, his life is dedicated to getting his homeland back. Except, somehow, the Rebelers, the ones who want to take over all of the Elven kingdom, have taken control of this boy. They are using the boy to work for their needs, and he is ment to spy and do mysterious deeds to help them. He is sent to Foxfire, and works as an undercover agent for the Rebeblers, using all information he gathers to the Elves disatvantage. But, no one even considers he doesn't want it this way. The boy doesn't want to aid the crazy Rebelers, he just want to be able to live in Atlantis, the grounds of his ancestors. Unfortunatly though, he doesn't know how to escape their grasp...

Meanwhile, a brave few students at Foxfire have relized that this child has been acting strangly. He comes to school one days with his eyes a different color than usual, and he appears to be acting odder by the minute. Out of the ordinary things are happening, and the students want to and will get to the bottom of it. Wait until they realize there is a human in their midst.

@Milly, I don't think it would directly be involved in the RP, just the organisation name. (you should read them though, they're amazing :D)

Possible human kid names - Myren, Conchur, Lorcan, Kalen, Kayden, Bowin? Vanisher and Telepath sound good, and what if he has green eyes? They could be blue enough to pass for an elf, but if you look closely you can tell they're green? Or he could dye them blue, like Neverseen said, I like that too. Maybe 13 years old, Level 3-ish?

So what we have so far is an organisation made up of mostly humans, with some elves too, who are trying to bring humans back into the Lost Cities/Atlantis, right? We're still figuring out their name, but probably something from Tolkien (my favorite candidates so far are the Wanderers, Vanyar, and Silvan - votes/other ideas, anyone?). And some of the people in it are Tolkien's descendants, who are good and want to do it peacefully, and some are bad and want to take over the Lost Cities.

They have an equivalent of Project Moonlark (ooh we should come up with a cool name) where a human child was raised by elves (he probably thinks he's an elf, but I'm not sure about that). He could have been genetically given abilities, or he could be 'Talentless', either would probably work. And he's supposed to be working with the people who want to take over the Lost Cities, but sympathises with the Tolkien people more?

Oh yeah, and then our charries will somehow find out about the organisation, no one believes them, so they make their own organisation kind of like the Black Swan.

Correct me if I'm wrong about any of this, I was doing it mostly from memory :P.

Sounds right to me! My favorite name is Vanyar, but the Wanderers sounds good too. For the human kid I like the name Kalen (is that his real human name, or is it a code name the elves who aren't part of the human organization use?). Level 3 sounds good, but I sorta' think he shouldn't have abilites, like he's still in the manafesting thing, because he is a human. Maybe everone could think he just hasn't manifested yet...?
Our elf kids also need a name, right? For their own organization they start when the realize what the Kalen is. I might post an acutal RP post soon, like where our characters actually start figuring this out, if everyone's ok with that.

Yeah, I'm good with that - and if he is still manifesting, than that would be a good excuss to not hae an ability. And, green eyes are good too. Next, if the organization is named after Vanyar, I think that maybe we should slightly alter it so it sounds more like and organization name. And Kalen (I think it would be a good actual name) needs a last name too, right? Some of my ideas are Gimli, Sauron, Arwen, Legola, and Frarmir which are inspired/names from Tolkiens books. And, I think level three sounds good. Okay, and for the project name, what about Project Discovery, Mission Atlantis, or Project Narwhal? I am totally open for other name suggestions, these are just the ones off of the top of my head. Then, if Kalen does end up with a code name, I suggest Salzar (which is kinda a Harry Potter reverance) since he has to have Slytherin-ish qualities and be able to slink around like a snake and learn everything he possibly can.

I like the last name Sauron a lot. I also think Project Discovery is the best name, but I'm not sure what others think. Also, who would his caretakers be? I mean, he had to have parents, or he will be suspicious. And would they not know he is human or be aware of it?

I like Arwen, but Sauron's good. I like Project Discovery too. I think two of the elves who know about the whole mission-thing will be his parents.
