Forest Role Play

Forest Role Play

In the middle of a huge sea of trees lies a tiny town.

The forest used to be called Silva Vivus Umbrare, which, when translated from the old language, means the Forest of Living Shadows, but the people just called it the Woods. Still, the forest lived up to its old name.

The trees moved during the night, uprooting themselves and gliding across the earth to a new spot. Sometimes the guards on duty at night would catch a glimps of an elk or deer gliding through the trees with a tall, graceful figure on its back. Occasionally, a larger creature slipped past the guards and stole away a cow or pig or goat.

But even with all of the dangers which surrounded them, the people of the town were proud to say that through the half-decade of the existance of the town, they have never lost a person to the woods or to any creature living in the woods.

Until now.

This year, during the Cilana festival, a time in the spring when the people cut down all the trees which have grown at or moved to the edge of the town, three young children disappeared.

Alana, an eight-year-old girl with frizzy red hair and a quick smile, Jakob, a serious five-year-old boy with sunburned skin from too many naps in the open, and Zena, a talkative seven-year-old girl with intense blue eyes. Their disappearence stopped the Cilana festival and threw the town into chaos.

The townspeaple knew that the three would never have gone off into the Woods by themselves, for the fear of the forest was too deep set in everyone, so the townspeople could only think that they had been kindnapped or stolen. Although the townspeaple were frightened and scared and the parents of the children were frantic, only a few people dared to go out into the woods.

You, along with a small group, have decided to venture into the forest to see if the children can still be found. Your bravery has given the town new hope, and the townspeaple have provided you with weapons, tools, and horses. You will leave on the new moon.

Hi everyone!

Here's the character sheet. (One character per person, please.)

Name:
Age: (Around 12-20 years old.)
Gender: (Can we try for an even boy/girl mix?)
Appearence:
Personality:
Quirks:
Flaws:
Shipping:
Other:

I'll post my character once this thread shows up, and I'll start the roleplay on Saturday, July 25.

Other notes: Don't be afraid to move the story forward! Feel free to introduce your favorite kinds of magical creatures, write memorable settings in the forest, and put the charries in danger!
If anyone decides to drop out, which I hope will not happen, consider putting up one last post to take care of your character, whether to have them return to the village or be trapped somewhere or die. (Wow, that was slightly depressing!)

Write you soon!

Iyara’s POV

Bradley thinks he broke another bone, it’s raining, and we’re not getting anywhere. Great. I build a quick campfire, putting rocks around it to shelter it from the wind, and a sheet of metal over it to cook stuff on. Spirit drags my cooking bag over, and I pull out a large pot. “Will two people go fill this with water, and a couple more go hunt for some rabbits or something?” I pull out carrots, potatoes, celery, onions, and some spices that I packed. Jeannie (hi this is Dolphin, sorry if I spelled that wrong) comes over and makes a hot poultice for Bradley, and Demi and someone else go off to get water. I send Spirit with the people who went hunting, and soon have a pot of soup bubbling. “Dinner’s ready!” I shout.

Jeannie~

Bradley needed help. Not only was he hurt, but he also insisted on doing everything by himself, even though mounting from the ground with a broken arm wasn’t safe or helpful to the rest of the group. Jeannie sighed. At least she understood where he was coming from. It was hard, being a dead weight. Harder than helping out and doing more than your share of work.

But Bradley was going to kill himself if he kept up with this. She knew it, and so did Demi, from the look on her face. Jeannie chewed on her lip, trying to figure out what they could do.

It didn’t take a genius to realize how wrong everything was going. But this was Silva Vivus Umbrare. What else should they have expected?

“Dinner’s ready!” Iyara yelled, interrupting Jeannie’s thoughts. She stood up absently and put down the bowl of poultice she had been mashing without thinking. It was now a cool, thick liquidy sludge. Demi gave an approving nod as she heaved water over to the campfire.

Someone handed her a bowl of soup, and she went back to the tree stump she had been sitting on, slowly drinking the broth as she walked, which actually tasted pretty good considering the resources they had.

She sat down, and jumped up again as something screeched loudly. “Ahh!” Jeannie shouted, dropping her soup. There was a fluttering of wings and a sparrowhawk- the same one as before, Jeannie was pretty sure- flew away, with the parting words, “How dare you. And I haven’t gotten any more information.”

Crossing her arms, Jeannie stomped over to the campfire to get a new bowl of soup. Zander, who was standing in front of her, asked, “What did it say this time?” “Nothing helpful,” Jeannie grumbled, grabbing the soup Iyara put in her hands. Demi began unwrapping Bradley’s arm, and Jeannie deliberately looked away.

Time passed, and the campfire began to die. The voices grew quieter as people drifted off to sleep, Macy on first watch, until the only sounds were the whispering of Demi and Bradley discussing something Jeannie couldn’t catch.

As she finally drifted off to sleep, she was vaguely aware of several animals making unintelligible noise. “That’s weird…” she thought, and then she heard something.

~~

Okay, so I set up a scenario for Demi and Bradley to be talking because Cynthia and Em both seemed interested in that, and then someone else can make up what Jeannie heard. I think it might be a clue to Zena and Alana but completely up to someone else.

-Ash-

Hmmmmmmmmmm, there was a weird sparrowhawk flying away from camp. A sparrowhawk that Ash had definitely seen before.

Downing his soup in one gulp, Ash made the decision to, for once, be a responsible adult and go do something. Tossing his hat playfully on Demi's head, and stowing Jeffery in his backpack, Ash simply walked out of camp, following the sparrowhawk.

Demi and Bradley seemed to be arguing about something, and everyone else was watching, so nobody noticed when Ash diseappeared.

Ash could hear the rustling of twigs and the whispering of grass all around him. Everything seemed much louder during the night, and Ash could feel eyes watching him.

The sparrowhawk swiftly darted through branches and leaves, heading to some destination.

Ash continued on. He followed the sparrowhawk for about an hour, until he heard ... voices?

Ash looked around, running a quick mental orientation. If he was facing west right now, the village should be to his right. Then if he circled around, he could make it seem as if he was coming from outside the forest.

Ash carefully darted around a bush, creeping over to another tree. He peeked out from behind it. Three vaguely humanoid things, but much taller, were sitting around a campfire. When Ash squinted, he could barely see the face of Zena, wide eyed with fear behind the flames.

Ash ran nimbly a bit farther away, and then stopping and wheeling around, he started tramping over, making as much noise as possible.

"Who's there?" one of the figures yelled, their voice gruff.

Ash stepped into the light of the campfire. "Why, only a traveling bard!" he lied, grinning jovially.

The humanoid figures were ... they were elves
