Emily and Ema

Chatterbox: Inkwell

Emily and Ema

Emily and Ema are together in a fantasy short story.

Rules:
1. No fighting.
2. No taking over the story.  Work it out with your partner so you can both do the story equally.
3. Keep the story PG.
4. GloWorm says to always keep to your genre, but I disagree: if you really want to, change genres.
Thank you very much! :)

Ok, I'm here. What kind of story do you want to do, Ema? Fairies, dragons, wizards, goblins.... I personally prefer to steer clear of horror stories. And I warn you, I'm liable to kill characters rather than let them fall in love. So don't put that in my part. Anyway, I'll wait to hear from you! Can't wait to start!

I don't like horror stories that much either. I'd choose between fairies or anything magical, but it also depends what you like.

Oops, sorry! I haven't been on Cricket in a while so I didn't see the thread. Let's start! :)

I'm all for starting. You go first. Pick our theme/topic. If I don't like it, I'll a) tell you so or b) kill off all your characters and introduce my own. :D

Yes! My partner still exists! She has not fallen off the face of the earth! But I can't see her comment yet. Rats. Oh, well, hiya, Ema!

Umm...... *thinks*. How about fairies? :)

I'm good with fairies. Fairies in a realistic world (modern or historical fiction) or fairies in a fantasy world? And can they use magic? I think it would be easiest to set it in a pre-established world, whether the real one or, say, the Chronicals of Narnia world or the LOTR world. Something like that. And modern day fairies would be kind of hard. I'll vote for a historical setting, but I'm willing to change. I don't care if they can use magic or not - your pick.

I'm with you all the way on the historical setting! I've tried to write about fairies in fanasy worlds or modern settings and believe me....I stink! I think that they should use magic because I've kind of grown up with the fact that fairies have magic so...yeah. :)

What do want to be the problem or goal of the characters to be- I'm horrible at that but I won't leave you alone on it! Ugh...I sound like one of those English essay planners... 'What was the main problem/solution in the story?' 'What goal did the charaters try to reach and did they reach it? Explain your anwers.' Wink

Yeah, Lord of the Rings. :) I think about the 17-1800s would be good. Either that or the 1400s. And about the characters.... We need to have an evil fairy. One who is.... let's see here.... planning to reveail the fairies' existence and location to.... a circus.... or something like that. And our main character will stop the evil fairy, possibly sacrificing her own life to save the fairy nation. Maybe she has to die in order to make sure that the evil fairy dies as well. That gives us nice motivation/conflict. What do you think of that? And are you any good with making up names? I'm not. I have, let's see, Mari I haven't used yet. That would be a reasonably good fairy name. And I think the bad fairy is a female. I'm not sure what the hero's gender is. Your pick. I can't think of anything else - if I've left something unclear or you're wondering about something, let me know. Oh, I think a little magic will work, but not too much. We don't want to have all-powerful fairies. They can... let's see... disappear at will. And they can fly (of course). But they are powerless in the presence of gold -say, three feet away or something like that - which is why they value silver so much. And they laugh a lot. These ones are living in a city, so they're not quite the steriotypical leaf-elfs. Hmmm.... That's all I want to lay down. Shape their culture all you want. I just don't want to pig the story or ideas.... so I think I'll stop now. Sorry this is so long.

Thats OK! :) Yeah, maybe 1756....The year sounds nice in my head. :) Maybe not a circus, but a...maybe some freak show, I don't know. Having the main character die would be nice, as long as the story isn't a complete tragedy. (((Especially since I just got back from seeing West Side Story...very sad.))) Maybe the evil fairy's name would be...Kanti?

Yeah, I like that. 1756 and Kanti. Good name, that. Not a complete tragedy, either. Those are a bit depressing. We've got to remember world-wide events, though.... the Seven Year's War was going on, but that's about all. It will shape the whole thing if it's in Europe, though, and I think it should be. Maybe some place that wouldn't be affected too much, like maybe Italy or Turkey? I'm not much good with history, so I'm afraid I don't know. It wouldn't work so well in the Americas, somehow.
