Reads, crouching in

Chatterbox: Inkwell

Reads, crouching in

Reads, crouching in the hollow of her bushes, skimming quickly through the newest Cricket. She quickly flipped to the Crowd-Sorcery section, looking for a new safe house.  She ran her finger along the map, finally resting on a home in Vancouver.  Not too far from her.  She was in Seattle and as far as she knew, the werewolfs were making there way up the coast.

Suddenly, a car whizzed by her bush, making Reads stumble over.  Reacting quickly, Reads shot up some grass, cushioning her fall.  As she landed with a plop, Reads looked up to the starry night sky.  Would she ever be safe?  Were there more Nox like her, hiding from the werewolfs?  And if there were, would they survive?

---------------

Hi guys!  this is my first story on chatterbox!  This is going to be a CB if thats ok.  If you want to be in the story, I just need to know a power that you have.  This is a post werewolf apocalypse story, where these people with magical powers (Nox) are being hunted and killed.  I will try to include anyone who wants to join! I'm super sorry though if I can't!Frown I will do my best!  I dunno how often I will be able to type, so there may be times where I don't.  Hope that's ok!  But I am super excited to try this out!

Just so you know, I'm shy, innocent, quiet, and I get scared easily. Just a quick personality description, since we don't know each other that well yet.

I'm Hermione Granger, and though I do not look like her, my personality is hers, and I have her powers, except I am also an metamorphmagus.

Both girls screamed and shrieked!  Reads instinctivly shot up and began pulling roots out of the earth and having them wrap around the dragon.  As she continued, the roots grew thicker.  They started to mend together, turning into a thick tree trunck.

"Reads!!  Stop!!" St.Owl cried out.  Reads pulled back.  "What?"  "Don't you hear it?" said st.Owl.  Then she glided over to the trunk, and wripped away a few of the roots.  Then Reads could hear it.  A faint voice was calling, "Help!!  Lay off me!  Please!!!"  St.Owl tore open a hole and peered into the trunk.  Then she beckoned to Reads.  Reads walked slowly over to the trunk.  Then she peered in.

Stuck in the tree, and glaring up at them, was a teenage boy with dark hair.  He looked at Reads and told her off!  "I TRY to say hello, and you freak out and turn me into an OAK TREE!!  NOT VERY NICE!!!" he shouted.  Reads grew red.  "Well SOME people don't like to be snuck up on!!  So excuuuse me if I react-"  "Re-eads!" said ST.Owl.  "What?!" snapped Reads.  "Come on!  It was an accident!  No use shouting!"  St.Owl said in a soothing tone.  "Well I-" but Reads stopped as St.Owl's words washed over her.  She felt calmer, and more peacful!  Reads sighed, glaring at the boy.  "NEVER, do that to me again!"

"I'm Shadow Dragon!  And this is Shadow Dancer.  I obviously can turn into a dragon, and she can blend into the shadows.  She also has an AWSOME memory compared to me!"  Shadow dragon had combined his dragonfire with St.Owl's ball of light, and now everyone was sitting around it.  The newcomer, Shadow Dancer, had been slinking in the shadows during the 'oak tree incident'.  She sat next to Shadow Dancer, out of the fire's light, and she hadn't spoken a word.

"So do you know each other?" asked St.Owl.  "Oh yeah!" gestured Shadow Dragon.  We'ere childhood friends!  We grew up in the same neighboorhood."

I would like to be in your story. My name is Joan B. of Arc and I am really good with any kind of weapon, even if I haven't seen it before, but I usually use a sword. My sword isn't just any kind of sword, it is named after King Arthur's Sword, Excalibur and it's sheath can help my wounds heal quicker.

Aww,  dangit!  Sorry, Shadow Dragon!  I was sure this was going to happen at least once.  I hope you don't mind too much.  If you do, I will do my best to change it.

Everyone else, if you want a specific gender, please let me know!  Sorry again, Shadow Dragon!

St.Owl nodded.  Reads sat with her arms crossed, still angry about the 'oak tree incident'.  St.Owl looked at her friend, but Reads just stared ahead.  An akward silence fell upon them.

"Soo!" St.Owl, an air of uncomfortablness* in her voice.  "Which safe house you guys heading to?"  Shadowdancer cocked her head quizzically.  Shadow dragon frowned.  "What?"  You know..." said St.Owl,  "from the Crowd-Sorcery?!"  Shadow Dragon shook his head.  "I dunno what you'ere talking about," he said.  Shadowdancer looked confused.  Reads finally uncrossed her arms and stared at the pair of them.  "What?!" she exclaimed.  "How have you- how have you survived?!"  Shadow dragon shook his head again.  "Sorry, but I seriously don't have a clue what you're talking about."  Reads and St.Owl stared.

"O-okay," said St.Owl nervously.  "I'll- I'll tell you what it is, but- but you have to swear an oath."  Shadow Dragon and Shadowdancer both nodded.  "Okay, but-but if you break the oath," St.Owl paused,  "you- you will..die."  Again, silence hung in the air.

Shadowdancer leaned over and whispered somthing in Shadow Dragon's ear.  Shadow Dragon nodded.  "I'm up for it," he said.  "And so is Shadowdancer."

Reads and St.Owl reached into their backpacks and each pulled out a leather-bound book, thick with dust.  Reads opened the book to show a page inscribed with runes, and yellowed with age.  "Read this," she said.  "Each of you.  If the great Rahjon accepts you, you're in.  If not.." she paused.  "you will have to be killed."

Shadow Dragon and Shadowdancer each leaned over a book held by reads and St.Owl. "The great Rahjon will rise, " read Shadow Dragon.  "By his decendent and heir, with the help of the Regal Nox," muttered Shadowdancer, under her breath.  "And unite," they both chanted.  "The remaining Rahjons and the Nox, to take what is rightfully ours!!"

Both books shut closed in the two girls hands, and Shadow Dragon and Shadowdancer leaned back.  "What was that?" whispered Shadowdancer.  "The Regal Nox prophecy,"said St.Owl, with a shaky breath.  "You are now, officially,... a Nox."

*Cause that's totally a word

Okay guys; i know I've been dragging this one day out, but bear with me.  I will do my best to finish this section in this entry

_______________

The four teenagers sat around their ball of light, muching on a Twinkie each.  Reads watched as Shadow dragon picked at his, and Shadowdancer barely touched hers.  Reads glanced over at St.Owl.  She shrugged

"Sooo!" started Shadow dragon, pushing away his Twinkie.  "What about this Crowd-Sorcery thing?"  Shadowdancer looked up.  St.Owl looked at Reads.  "Welll,"said Reads, taking a bite of her Twinkie before setting it down.

"Basically, its an undercover association of people against the Werewolf Movment of killing off the Nox.  Kids with magix abilities like us," she added, when Shadowdancer gave her a puzzled look.  Reads breathed.  "The Crowd-Sorcery can be Regulars; people with no Magix.  Or Nox in hidding.  Regulars in the association help provide safe houses, for people on the move like us."  Reads pulled out her issue of Cricket from her backpack.  "They keep us informed through this magazine, Cricket.  It shows the safe houses across America, and people can communicate through this."  Reads flipped open the magazine and pointed to some words.  "These are the owners of the safe house St.Owl and I are heading to.  Apparently there are going to be more Nox there as well-" "And you're going to come with us," said St.Owl, giving a small smile.

There was a long silence as Shadow Dragon and Shadowdancer took in the information.  Suddenly, Shadow Dragon burst out laughing.  All the girls stared.  "What's so funny?" asked St.Owl in bewilderment.  Shadow Dragon shook his head.  "I'm gonna be traveling with a bunch of girls on a werewolf apocolypse mission!!"  He slapped his knee.  Shadowdancer rolled her eyes, and Reads looked about ready to smack him.  St.Owl simply smiled and sent a peace wave over their heads.

I was grounded... am I too late to join? If so, it's entirely okay! I won't be mad if you don't include me, but if you can, I am a psionic with tele, sono and electrokinesis with an advanced AI and a slightly crazy obsession with biological perfection. Also psychotic episodes.

Days later:

Reads reached out a grubby hand and rang the doorbell.

The four teenagers had been traveling for days, surviving and fighting off werewolves.  Reads dropped her arm and turned to look at her friends:  Shadow Sragon, whose face was covered with dirt and holding a Swiss army knife; Shadowdancer, a smear of blood on her cheek; and St.Owl, her hair a rat's nest and holding a golf club.

Reads managed a smile.  She herself had half an arm caked with mud and she was covered with dust.  "Here we go, guys!" she encouraged.  "We did it!"  Shadow dragon gave a small "Yay!" and the other girls forced smiles.  All of them turned as the door opened.

In the doorframe stood a short women with her hands on her hips.  Her hair was the color of pepper and chopped short, and she seemed to radiate energy.  "Good!  You're here!" she said. "Now come on! Git!" She ushered them inside, shutting the door behind them.  "I'm Mrs. Cole," she said as she locked the door.  "All the rest of 'em are down in the second cellar."  Shadow Dragon frowned.  "Who?"  Everyone else looked confused too.  "Ya know!" gestured Mrs. Cole.  "Them rest Regal Nox!"

Reads shook her head.  "Wait," she started, putting her hands up.  "We knew there would be more Nox here, but no one said anything about Reagal Nox.  That's only a ledgend!"  "Well, you'ere here now," said Mrs. Cole.  "How many kids?" asked St.Owl.  "Including you?" replied Mrs. Cole.  "'Bout twelve."  Shadow Dancer gave a small shriek.  Everyone stared.  Shadowdancer turned red, melting into the shadows.  Mrs. Cole swooped in.  "Well, let's get you cleaned up."  Everyone exchanged glances as Mrs.Cole led them to the cellar door.

In the cellar, there were sacks filled with produce and bread.  Not a Nox in sight.  "Erm, Mrs.Cole?" asked St. Owl polietly, but the women was too busy pushing a sack of potatoes away from the corner wall.  She then dug her fingers into the tile and lifted one up.  Shadow Dragon bent to look through.  "Jeez!" he exclaimed.  "Check this out!"  The girls came over to look.  Through the tile opening, there was a set of stairs leading down to another cellar.  And in the seconed cellar, there was indeed, a bunch of Nox.
