Admin Q&A

Admin Q&A

So, I was thinking about this yesterday, and I was like, whoa, that sounds cool, so here it is!

Questions for the Admins!

I'm pretty sure someone has already thought this up, and if someone already did, I guess they're just as curious as I am. ^^

So, another thing I was thinking, was that if a CBer posts a question for an Admin, Admins don't have to answer if the question is too personal, or then I guess that means they don't show the post at all, or they can answer the question in a sort of sly way. Admins, do what you want because these questions are for you. xD

Alright so first question!

Admins,

Do you have a separate job than being an Admin on Chatterbox, or on Cricketmagkids? For example: Admin on Saturdays, waitress at a restuarant all the rest of the week.

Admin: We all work on the editorial staff for Cricket magazine, and some of us work for SpiderMuse, and Cicada, too!

@Admins

How much are you paid by Cricket or whatever company (Cobblestone???) to  do your various jobs ex. the CB, editorial work, etc.

We're not going to answer that one. However, generally publishing is not a high-paying business. Salaries may vary with experience. What is most important to me is that I really enjoy the work! To me that's much better than being paid more to perform a stressful job that I dread.

Admins,

I was wondering how you get a job as an admin for any magazine website, or just a website in general. Do you have to have background experience with language arts and grammar skills? Do you have to fill out an application to get a job as an admin? Is there anything required that you need to have or not have to become an admin?

We Admins were all hired by the magazine editorial department. Education and skill in English, language arts, literature, grammar, and the arts is all important. Experience on the staff of a school or other publication would be a plus. And a love of books and reading. In my interview, I remember being asked by the editor in chief what books and authors I especially liked to read when I was a child. When there is an job opening, the human resources department would post that information.

For almost any job it's also important to be able to work well with others.

I know this is old, but admins, can you please explain to me what the relatively recent incident was?

I'm new so... yeah...

People started posting as alter egos, which expanded so that some people posted under several different names, and it was difficult to keep track of who was who. Plus many of the alter egos submitted wild and crazy comments, shouting in all capital letters, rudely interrupting serious writing on some of the threads. Now we've asked that alter egos be contained in just a few threads specifically for them.

What about the imposters? I read about that. Winter firefly did something? Is that related?

Ummm, well, Winterosted as Brookeira saying she was leaving, because we are crazy adolescents. Then someone impersonated Geek Girl, framing her. Winter owned up to posting as Brookeira, but to this day we don't know who framed Geek Girl.

Admins, I earlier submitted (or thought I submitted) a "Holographic RP!" post. Do you have any record of this, because I even searched it up on Google, and still couldn't find it. It's been since about 1:20 this afternoon, so it's been a few hours. Did you get this and not get a chance to post it or something? I'm just wondering where it went. If you don't find it, it's all right. I guess I'll just have to rant and describe again if so.

I was away much of the day and just began posting this evening. I think I posted it a little while ago. Sometimes you just have to be patient.

Dear wonderful amazing admins,

How do you upload pictures? Like, if you drew a picture could you upload it? Would it be okay to start a thread based on pictures people drew and want to show off? Thanks!

You need to post it on some other site first, then copy and paste it to Chatterbox. We have had picture threads in the past. Please only submit work you have created yourself. Don't copy and submit work by someone else.

How do you post pictures on Chatterbox? I've seen some people do it, but I don't know how.

You have to post it on some other site first, then copy and paste to Chatterbox.

Lindsey, I posted a tutorial-ish thing on a thread in Chirp At Cricket. Take a look! (I apologize if it's not very helpful...)

I drew a picture for the contest.. I live in Alaska. If I sent the picture within a week would it arrive on time? And where do I send it to?

Send to Cricket League, PO Box 300, Peru, IL 61354.

We look forward to seeing it. We should receive it by May 26, over two weeks away, so if you mail soon it certainly should arrive on time. The printed deadline is always the 25th of the month; however, whenever that falls on a weekend or holiday (as it does this year on Memorial Day), we then accept whatever arrives in the next business day's mail.

Thank you, and could we pleeaassseeee have a Cricket convention??? Even though I probably wouldn't be...able...to..go....unless I paid for the whole trip myself....dang it.

Could I post it on here and would that count? Or do I have to mail it?

Cricket League entries for the May contest need to be US mailed to the contest address. Posting here would not count.

Admins--

COULD we have a CricketCon? All the CBers would FINALLY be able to properly meet! It would be like in Anything But Typical! Only better!

Aaaand now I'm going to find out that I'm the only person on the Chatterbox who's read Anything But Typical and that no one knows what I'm talking about.

I'll pass your suggestion on, but realistically I doubt it will happen. It might be more likely that some of you meet by chance at other public events of interest to Chatterboxers, such as a book or theater festival.

I have a question for the Admins too. Here it is:

How do you make your own post on Chatterbox?

Sorry if that sounded stupid; I'm new.

If you want to start a new thread, select the home page of one of the sections: Down to Earth, Chirp at Cricket, etc. then look for the box near the top left of the screen that says "Click here to talk about" ___. Click on "here" and you'll get a screen that allows you to start a new thread.
