Chatterbox: Inkwell

Admin Q&A

Admin Q&A

So, I was thinking about this yesterday, and I was like, whoa, that sounds cool, so here it is!

Questions for the Admins!

I'm pretty sure someone has already thought this up, and if someone already did, I guess they're just as curious as I am. ^^

So, another thing I was thinking, was that if a CBer posts a question for an Admin, Admins don't have to answer if the question is too personal, or then I guess that means they don't show the post at all, or they can answer the question in a sort of sly way. Admins, do what you want because these questions are for you. xD

Alright so first question!

Admins,

Do you have a separate job than being an Admin on Chatterbox, or on Cricketmagkids? For example: Admin on Saturdays, waitress at a restuarant all the rest of the week.

Admin: We all work on the editorial staff for Cricket magazine, and some of us work for SpiderMuse, and Cicada, too!

Dear Adim's,

What is Muse blog? I have a subscription to Muse but I could not find Muse blog on the internet. I have heard good things about it.

Muse blog is not a part of our magazine company. We can't pass on the address, even if we knew it, because its contents are beyond our control.

I think MuseBlog has been made unable to get to by searching for it because it had a lot of spam or something when people could just google it. You can get to it by going to the Muse magazine's website, go to Kokonino County, then the County Library, then Fiction, then the thread entitled "HitchHiker's Guide To The Galaxy", and the link at the bottom of the book review shuld take you to the MuseBlog. I have a feeling that there was a simpler way to get there (I occassionally take a look at it to see what's up and decide if I'm brave enough to post anything), but I couldn't find it...

It looks like a very nice community, although I'm pretty sure the age range is more adult and college/university students than kids. If you look far enough you might find some really old threads discussing hot pink bunnies, which are quite funny to read!

Admin, do you enjoy your job? Did you ever think, when you were a kid that this would be your job?

Yes, I love my job! I didn't think about it specifically when I was a kid, but I (and my whole family) always loved books and reading, both fiction and nonfiction, the arts, and learning new things. My mother and several aunts and great-aunts were librarians. I have a whole shelf of books from the early 1900s that have been handed down from generation to generation.

Sorry, this might be a little personal, but are the admins male or female, or is it co-ed? Also, does it really work to top something? I mean, if a CBer posts top, will a thread actually go to the top?

Admin are one male and one female. I believe that topping does work, or at least sends a thread from the back to near the top or front of the queue.

Admins, I have a question for you.

Sometimes when posts are submitted as blank (usually when being topped) the word "Lonnie" appears in the body. I used to assume Lonnie was a user who topped posts, but once I topped something with a blank body and the word "Lonnie" appeared, Was that added by the Admins or is it something added by the website? It doesn't appear very often anymore, so I assumed it was something that Admin 3, a.k.a. the backup Admin used to do. If so, then why "Lonnie"? Is it a private joke?

This is the first I've heard of this, and I have no idea why it happened.

So....um......Admins....uh....how to say this.......Okay, to the point. I meant to ask whether it would be appropriate for the Chatterbox if we made some threads discussing....

You're right, that's not appropriate for Chatterbox. There must be other places for that topic.

Is it okay if we have some romance in our rps?

Not much, just like, two kids liking/loving each other, and maybe hugging...would even just a 'peck' or short kiss on the cheek be okay? Or is that too much?

Have you read Eragon? (All of you)

Very light, probably OK, but we reserve the right to edit as we see fit.

Admins,

For your work, do you just sit around and wait for posts from kids without lives? (:P)

What else do you do?

I do a variety of editorial work on all the bug magazines: Cricket, Spider, Ladybug, Babybug, and Cicada. As I'm working, I check the Chatterbox queue from time to time. Evenings and weekends I'm at home doing all the ordinary things others do, laundry, shopping, practicing my violin, going to rehearsals, plays, church, etc. Then I check Chatterbox every so often when I'm home and have time.

You play violin? High five!!! I play flute and piano :D

I do. I play in our community orchestra. The music is often challenging, but practicing really helps me improve! If I didn't play violin, I'd probably play flute. I love it, too, but my father played violin so we already had a violin in the house.

I have a really awesome flute teacher; she is Japaneese and has traveled all over the world!

She plays in our orchestra and I might this summer, but they are kinda overloaded on flutes. You know, like usual. Can I ask how much you guys get paid? Is it like a volunteer job, or a regular job?

I want to be a prof, Flute player and travel the world, and in my spare time draw and write. Do all the admins know each other personally? Like, live in the same town?

I don't get paid to play in our community orchestra. I get as much out of the experience of playing as the orchestra gets out of me. In other words, I am paid with the pleasure of the music, feeling of accomplishment and community with the other orchestra members, and the joy we give to the audience.

Yes, we admins know each other.

Yeah, the same for my community orchestra. I love watching them....well I wouldn't go if I didn't, would I? :3 I had an idea, you guys should use, admin 1, admin 2, etc... You don't have to, but like...on Q&A *shrug*

We used to do that, but now it's almost always just the same one, except for vacation time.

Why are the most recent comments at the bottom?

Why does it take a long time for comments to show up?

1. It's just the way it was set up, I guess. You can start at the top of a thread, which is the beginning, and read comments in the order they were made.

2. We don't have an Admin working 24/7. Sometimes we're doing something else. We do the best we can.

How many people are on the Cricket/cicada, etc... Staff?

It's hard to say. If you include customer service, subscription, accounting, etc. maybe 50? I'm just estimating. Some of us work on our other magazines, too, Cobblestone, etc. Hard to separate the workers/responsibilites.
