The book I recommend for you is Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine, a fantasy romance based on Cinderella, about a girl named Ella who from birth was cursed to always be obedient. Her mother dies and Dame Olga (the stepmother), Hattie, and Olive move in. Hattie discovers Ella's curse at finishing school and so Ella sets on a quest, hoping to find Lucinda to reverse the curse, and throughout her journey she encounters all sorts of dangers and falls in love with the prince. This is a standalone book, unfortunately, but there are other books by the same author that are similar and I would recommend you read if you finish.

The book series I recommend is The Hunger Games, a popular dystopian series (you may have heard of) by Suzanne Collins. It is about an annual event where one boy and one girl from each of the twelve surrounding districts of the Capitol compete in a televised battle royale to the death.

If you have read that series, or if you haven't, I also recommend Edgar Allan Poe books, which are classic horror stories (again, you may have read them before), such as The Tell-Tale Heart and The Murders of the Rue Morgue.

The book I recommend is Consider the Octopus by Gae Polisner and Nora Raleigh Baskin, a realistic fiction book about Jeremy Barnes "JB", who is tasked by his research scientist mom to invite a group of scientists aboard their ship, but he mistakenly invites 12-year-old Sidney Miller instead of Dr. Sidney Miller. This leads to a heartfelt story about friendship and an empowering call to environmental protection for young people to save our oceans.
