Ok guys, so I was thinking. What do you think about starting a book club? We could decide on a book and all read it at the same time and stuff. Have any of you read The Boy in the Striped Pajamas?

Olde Cricket does have a very good point. But Trixy, remeber, keep checking this thread, because when we're done, we might be doing a book you really like. Oh, and since we are doing a Narnia book, I think we should just do one and then go on to the next person. If they want to do another one, fine. But if they'd prefer to do something completely different, we don't have to do more than one book from this series. Because it seems like some people are just assuming we're doing all of Narnia, but Grace should just choose one book, then someone else can choose what we read next.

OK, I honestly don't care anymore. I mean Carli can choose, I guess.

Or here's an idea: Let's just do The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne first.

Sure, that sounds good. It's not at my library, though, so I may be a little behind whilst waiting for it from interlibrary loan. That's OK, though: I'm a really fast reader. :):):)

Grace, Aliza, note that School Library Journal classifies The Boy in the Striped Pajamas as Young Adult, for readers in grade 9 and up with some prior knowledge of the Holocaust. Are some of the book club members younger than that? If so, maybe you should settle for something less mature. I hate to discourage you, because I know the book selection process has been a long one. But I just think I should mention this.

Good point, Old Cricket. My dad said that striped pajamas indicates a prison camp, so that might be a little...horrific, especially for younger readers. I'm not sure if anyone so far in the book club is under nine, or even nine, but I'll check.

Nope.  So far there are only 11- to 15-year-olds signed up.  And my brother's going to be signing up, but he's nine.  But Old Cricket said GRADE nine, so I guess even I shouldn't read it, but I read pretty--er--advanced books.  (I don't mean to be a braggart!!!!) I think most of us can handle the content, but I guess we should still pick age-friendly books.  *sulks* :(

I was just passing on what the review in School Library Journal said. I haven't read the book. Grade nine = age 14. Maybe the younger kids could ask their parents' permission, or pick an alternate book for them, or let them get started early on the second book club book? I'd say Grace's choice.

I'm kind of sensitive to Holocaust things, so thanks Old Cricket.

Er... Trixy? That's not true, what you said about our ages. I'm ten, and I think Laura's fifteen. However, we are not under nine.
