BOOK CLUB:

Ok guys, so I was thinking. What do you think about starting a book club? We could decide on a book and all read it at the same time and stuff. Have any of you read The Boy in the Striped Pajamas?

*jumps up and down repeatedly*  OOH OOH!!!!  I just finished the third Howl's Moving Castle book!!!!!  Oh, I LOVE THOSE BOOKS!!!!!  I read it in less than two days... well, about a day and a half!!!!  I couldn't put it down!  I was reading it as I was walking out to the car, and when we would stop at lights, and while we were in the parking lot!  (I get dizzy reading while the car is moving)  Anyway, I REALLY hope she writes a fourth!!!!  Oh, it was so funny how mad Sophie was at Twinkle!!!!!!!  Ah, she's so good at writing....

Well, I could rant about it for hours, so I better stop, but I wouldn't mind reading the series again...

Oh, hey, what about something by Gail Carson Levine?

I LOVE her books, and own a few.  :)

I think we should at least do The Giver. It would be great for discussions.

Oooooh . . . we have a bunch of sad/battle books.  The Diary of Anne Frank, The Giver, The Book Thief, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, Narnia, Lord of the Rings . . . does anyone know any happy books?!?!  Laura?!

One of my very favorite books is The Mozart Season by Virginia Euwer Wolff. I don't remember it as being sad at all.

OK, let me think...  I've read too many... hard to remember....

OK, I'm bad at this.

OK, not necessarily "happy" books, but good none the less:

Beauty

The Gate in the Wall (one of my absolute favs)

Shadow Spinner        I actually have that from the library right now.  :)

Fairest

More or less happy books:

(ACK!  I'm so bad at names!!!!)

Once Upon a Marigold  (I just read it, but I don't mind reading it again.)

Emily Windsnap?  (one, two, or hopefully three, because I just reread the first two, and was going to read the third again)

I'm sorry.  Can I get back to you. I really am NOT good at finding happy books.  I mean, I read them all the time... but...  ARG!!!  I'm so mad at myself!!!!!!!

Hmm...

*thinking*

Huh, if you want a sad but good book, read The Princetta.  I nearly cried in the end, at that's not usual for me...

Oh!  The Swan Maiden is REALLY good!!

*thinking thinking*

This is what I suggest:

1. Series club. Either Narnia or LOTR, you guys can decide/vote.

2. WWII club. Books based on WWII like The boy in the striped pj's,Diary of a Young Girl, Enemy Brothers, etc. I love books from this era, but if no one else does, we can change it.

3. I'm not sure how to phrase this, but maybe just "normal" books?? Like the ones you guys listed. Or we could do Newberry award winners.

I think Newbery award winners would be fun, even though there are many good books to choose from. For series we should start with Narnia rather than LOTR, they are shorter so it wouldn' t take as long to do and we could move on quicker if some people don't like it. It would also take not as long to read.

The Book Thief is also WWII. I think that one time I tried to get Which Witch? and my dad didn't like it for some reason... But that was a year or so ago; maybe he'll let me get it now.

The Black Cauldron by Lloyd Alexander

The Bronze Bow by Elizabeth George Speare

Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O'Dell

Gone-Away Lake by Elizabeth Enright

Jacob Have I Loved by Katherine Paterson

Carry On, Mr. Bowditch by Jean Lee Latham

Here are some that I know of. They might not be advanced enough though, if you know what I mean. But they're good because they're shorter, so any of you who don't have a whole lot of time to read, it will be easy if you need to catch up. If you know of some others please post them!

I don't think we should have different clubs, though it's a good idea, because then people would never try different genres and just stick to the ones they already know they like.  I do think we should have a selection each time of different genres and vote on the one we would like to do, though. :) Oh, and what kind of books are those?  Historical fiction? :)

Shadow Spinner! Yes! That is SUCH a good book! Oh, and I hated Jacob Have I Loved. So let's not do that one.

WOOPS!  Started reading it this morning!  I'm about half way through.  If you choose it though, I can always restart, or something...  :)
