Marauders Era. HP Era is boring (IMHO) and I can get carried away with Next-Gen easily/I ship Scor/Rose strongly. :P
Anyways, there haven't been that many HPRPs in a while so I thought I'd make one. So, Maruaders Era or Tom Riddle Era? (Or shall we be AU and combine the two?)

Ahem.
I'm all for an AU combination of both (+Bellatrix who is sort of in between) provided there is a significant age difference between TMR and the Mauraders (4+ years), but I'm okay with whatever.

I've not done much with TMR, though that sounds like fun. I'm much more experienced with Mauraders. But an AU combo has the potential to be the best of both worlds. :D

Which would put dear Tom in fifth year or later, correct? Personally I would vote for seventh year, because abuse of Head Boy privileges would be oh so much fun to write about.

I'm joining. TMR era? I'm *trying* to write a Bellatrix centered fan fiction. But I would also do Mauraders era. Are we making our own characters?

Generally what happens is some people take canon characters (I, for example, will almost certainly ask for/politely demand either TMR and Bella or Snape depending on the era) and other people make up their own.
Also, um, you should totally post the Bella!fanfiction on Inkwell. Because, you know, she's awesome and stuff.

So... Tom is in his seventh Year, is Head Boy, and there's the CoS (will it have been opened already, be opened, or never opened in this RP?).
And this is AU and the Maruaders are in this as well I think, oui? So the Marauders are in their... first Year? Second? And who's supposed to be Headmaster? Dippet or Dumbledore? (DIPPET DIPPET DIPPET, as Dumbledore was apointed around 1956 long after Tom graduated)
McGonagall is a year ahead of Tom, Hagrid is two years after (he started in 1940, Tom in 1938), Dumbledore defeated Grindelwald the year Tom graduates, Rita Skeeter and Bella are the same age, Arthur Weasley and Molly are a year older than the aforementioned two, Lucius is 3 years younger than Bellatrix, Narcissa is 4 years younger (than Bella), and a bunch of other stuff...

I say the Chamber has been opened before, Dumbledore's still Transfiguration teacher, Dippet's headmaster, Hagrid's been expelled, McGonagall can't be a year ahead of Tom if he's in seventh year, and the age differences seem okay.
So I think the easiest way to do this would be to have Tom, Minevra, Molly, and Arthur in seventh year, Bellatrix and Rita in sixth, Lucius in third, and the Marauders and Narcissa in second. Though if we're going to be retconning ages closer together anyways, can we have Lucius be the same age as Bellatrix? Because that way just... makes better sense to me. And I suppose Andromeda would be fourth or third year. Anyway that makes our target age groups for any OC's 16-17 and 12-14, which is pretty much in the range we want it to be given the demographic of the CB, right?
Also, who's Head Girl? My vote would go to Minevra, she seems the type.

So:
Seventh Year: Tom, Minerva, Molly and Arthur.
Sixth: Bellatrix, Rita and (maybe) Lucius
Fifth: Lucius? There's no one else in Fifth year.
Fourth: Andromeda (she's the middle child)
Third: Narcissa maybe?
Second: Marauders
First: Whoever. Or should the Marauders be in First?
And I vote Minerva for Head Girl as well, and Tom for Head Boy. And Lucius is a Prefect.
Also, Dolores Umbridge would probably be in Hogwarts as well. Maybe sixth Year and a Prefect?
(And do the Head Girl and Boy share a dorm or is that just a fanon myth?)

Sounds good to me. As far as the Head Boy and Girl sharing rooms, I'm calling fanon shenanigans on that. Nobody with an ounce of common sense puts two hormone-riddled seventeen year olds in a room together for nine months. As far as the Marauders, I'd personally prefer them to be in second year just for convenience, but it's not that important.

And that's one of my least favourite bits of fanon, for the reasons TNÖ mentioned. From an FF writer's perspective, the hormones are the whole point, of course.
But the HG and HB are just ordinary students with some extra priviliges and extra responsibilities. (There have to be extra responsibilities or there's no POINT.)
