book log 2024!
here's the 2024 book log! if you don't know how this works, here's the drill: once you finish a book, post the title and author here (if you want, you can also include your thoughts on the book, its genres, how many stars out of five you'd rate it, whatever). at the end of the year, you can see how many books you've read, plus you get a ton of recommendations from other people's lists!
happy new year, everyone!

Just finished Chinese Cinderella and the Secret Dragon Society, and it was pretty good. It takes place in WWII China (mostly in Shanghai) during Japanese occupation and deals with a young girl who is, well, basically a Chinese Cinderella, who finds family elsewhere and does patriotic missions with them, which is pretty sweet. It is historical fiction, but takes a lot of aspects of the time and uses them in pretty interesting ways, and there is a lot of diversity (culturally + religiously) in the main cast.
Overall, it was interesting, even though I don't love how they exalt the military... It's mostly anti-war, but still kinda suggests that there is honour in warfare, which I find to be a horrifyingly erroneous message something to put in a book for kids/young teens. At least it humanises some soldiers on both sides, but still. Even so. it was mostly pretty cool.

Oh, and it's by Adeline Yen Mah!

Just finished Loki: Where Mischief Lies by Mackenzie Lee. It was very entertaining, but the end frustrated me to no end. Alas, I fear that's the point.

...whoa that's a lot. how do you keep count?
(August 15, 2024 - 4:14 pm)
I write down all the book title when I finish a book in my book log, anf count them at the end of the month to see how many I've read (though I keep count throughout the month anyway) and then add all months together :) this is my first year doing this, and it's been really fun! I would recommend doing it if you read a lot

Earlier this month I finished the Truly Devious series (or at least what's out so far) by Maureen Johnson. Months ago I read Nine Liars (5th book), then this month I read The Box in the Woods (4), then Truly Devious (1), The Vanishing Stair (2), and The Hand on the Wall (3), in that order. Good books, but they are murder mystery, so obviously not for everyone.

Just finished The Myth of Monsters: Medusa by Katherine Marsh! It was very interesting, and a nice twist on Greek mythology. I'd definitely recommend.

Books always take me to the place that they are set! This one is called America's Bill of Rights. I would rate it 8 out of ten.It is nonfiction. Every chapter talks about one of the amendments. They all cover several aspects, such as why it was created and how people feel about it now. It's one of the best nonfiction books I've ever read.
PS:don't you hate when you're doing the I Am Not A Robot test and it autocorrects it?

Heroes by Alan Gratz. 9 out of ten. It was good, but not as good as the rest of the Alan Gratz books I've read. It's about the attack on Pearl Harbor.

MELISSA by Alex Gino.9 out of 10.It was pretty awesome, and I was glad there was a FAQ at the end. It was about a girl named Melissa who everyone thought was a boy named George.

Ground Zero by Alan Gratz. 10 out of 10! It was exciting and eye-opening. Definitely worth a read.
