Chatterbox: Blab About Books

HArry Potter
I've read all...

I've read all of the Harry Potter books and I love them so much! I have read hundreds of books and over the summer. I read a book every day, but the Harry Potter series by J.K.Rowling is by far my favorite. I love the way the characters develope and change throughout the novels. I also love all of the interesting names and creatures that flow from J.K.Rowling's imagination and into the book. When I read it, sometimes I cried, feeling the characters as if they were a part of me. Also when I read it, I felt as if I was in the story, where everyone was my friend and they all liked me for who I was, which doesn't always happen in real life. I love the books so much, I have memorized whole chapters and I can flip open to any page and go on a two-hour rant about it--(No, seriously, I timed myself and it was two hours and ten minutes!) I love the way everything fits together so smoothly and I love the way J.K. Rowling uses foreshadowing to a great wonder of all of her readers. I love them so much! Please read them if you haven't, and I am sure that you will fall in love with them the way I have! The movies are great represntors of the books as well; there are currently six movies out, and seven books, although they are making the seventh book into two movies becuase it is so long!

Caroline, TNO really likes the idea of Bellatrix and Voldemort together, just get used to it. And yes, that would be a pretty harsh and horrid world. And congratulations on turning/ will 13. Many happy returns! If i diden't congratulate you now I never would. So, now my opinion, which you ASKED for, so don't take offence ( not sure how you could but...)

I don't think muggles would be slaves; if they diden't kill them them they would probibly be used as dummies to practice curses on. If I had my way then Voldemort would be overthrown, but how this story would go is probably he would imperise/and or kill everyone he was suspicious of. Half bloods would be considerd skum, unless, of corse, they were death eaters. It would be terrible; Hogwarts would be a school of dark magic, incredibly awfull, maybe even worse than in deathly hallows, everyone that was in any house other than Slitheren before Harry was killed would be disgraced , every wizard (pure blood of course, imagine, a half blood, in our school! They would dirty the rest of us and have to be disposed of) would be forced into attendance. It would probably be a regular happening to have the chamber of secrets opened, and the other magic schools would be other institutions of Hogwarts school of dark witch and wizardry, Filch would probibly cease to exist (as he is a squib), but would have antother person in his place who shared the longing to hang children by their thumbs for punishment

More later, can't think of any more, know some will come to me like 5 hours later.

Elizabeth

P.S. i just finished reading Harry, A history, quite good.

And TNO, did you know that there are sites that are devoted to fanfic? Now I do. I think you would immensly enjoy them :)

Re: BellaxVoldy: Because it makes sense! *waves arms wildly* I'm not crazy! I have medication! */Discworld obsession* ...That or I inherited Hopeless Romanticism from mother and a dark sense of humor from my father and ended up liking slightly, um, dysfunctional ships like, *cough*, for example, DracoxHermione. *ducks hastily before things can be thrown* Or LilyxSnape. And a decidedly non-canon one for Remus. I is sorry, TonksxLupin fans, but it is true. *hides*

Re: What Would It Be Like If Voldy Ruled the World: Well, there are several options depending on how deranged/close to canon you want it.

1. Completely canon/He's barking: Starting with Muggles, Squibs, and Mudbloods, and then working up to halfbloods, Voldy begins a massive genocidal campaign. Think... Oh, Germany if Hitler had been a wizard and had actually one World War II. *whispers* Godwin's Law. Sorry. */whispers* Basically, he keeps hating and killing until there's nothing but him left, at which point I dunno... maybe he implodes from boredom or something.

2. Mildly canon/Harry Is An Unreliable Narrator: Still genocidal but within reason. At least, Voldy has the sense not to kill *everyone* who gets on his nerves and draws the line at Muggles, Squibs, and Mudbloods. Eventually the Laws of Narrative Causality dictate that SOMEONE has to rise up and stop the homicidal maniac, and they do so by, shall we say, borrowing a teenaged Vetinari from Night Watch and setting him on Voldy instead of Homicidal Lord Winder? *shrug*

3. Fanon/Haley Likes Villains Too Much: As a cheaper alternative to genocide, Bellatrix is more or less given free reign amongst the Muggles, Squibs, and Mudbloods. The now-dead RP is an extremely light version of this, but IMHO she wasn't nearly sadistic enough in it. Anyway, she gets to... well... *shamelessly quotes LM* mutilate, maim, and destroy... and that sort of thing. Meanwhile, Voldy grows a brain and sets about doing, you know, tyrant-y things like juggling unpopular jobs such as oppression, fear-mongering, and general madness and more accepted jobs such as making sure that things actually work the way they're supposed to. Hogwarts continues to be a relatively safe though noticeably darker place to send one's children, because this Vodly is sensible and Genre Savvy enough to know that if children start dying en masse then parents are going to get angry and the odds of some unstoppable Marty Stu hero to rise up and challenge his reign. And he can drag people, kicking and screaming, into the century of the fruit bat. (Oh. No. Wrong fandom. Sorry.)

Re: Fanfiction sites: Oh, I know. Quality varies greatly, though. Although I did recently read an excellent Year Seven fanfiction set at Hogwarts called Dumbledore's Army and the Year of Darkness that, apart from the odd typo, is very close to the quality of the books themselves. As the title suggests it focuses on Neville and the DA during the timeframe in Deathly Hallows, and personally it's more of a tearjerker than DH was. Personally. In DH I only really cried for Snape and Bella and sniffled a bit for Fred. In YoD I cried for just about everyone EXCEPT the people I cried for in DH (largely because, given the way Neville and his Gran were thinking during the final battle, Bellatrix got a reprieve being killed the way she did...). *nodnod* *shuts up*

If Snape hadn't been such a jerk and hadn't associated with death eaters, he totally would have married Lily, but then Harry woulden't exist. Frown  Snape loves Lily so much, it is sweet. But, Snape does take a liking to Harry, though Harry dosen't know it till the 7th book.

Voldemort, probably would have not married Bellatrix. It is not in Voldemort's nature to love, or even have close friends that he trusts little more than telling them what to do as they go, not telling them the master plan, they aren't his friends, merely his follwers. But it is a nice thought, if Voldemort took over the wizarding world, and actually liked Bellatrix, and didn't just accociate with her for information and support for his evil ideas, then he and Bellatrix would have an--errrr-- interesting reationship. You see, Voldemort would never relly trust Bellatrix; again trusting people isn't really in his nature. And Bellatrix would want to get mushy and icky.

What does non-canon mean?

Not actually in the books and/or not matching up with stuff JKR has said that pertains to the HP universe.

@Elizabeth: No. Not marriage. Definitely not. Usually I'd be thinking more along the lines of how Lady Margolotta and Vetinari are described;  "err... interesting relationship" is also a good description.

And honestly I can't see Bella getting, um, "mushy", as you put it. She's far too deranged/cynical/intelligent for that, I think.

"Mushy" is the wrong word. I used the wrong word. I only meant that she would want him to care about her ( mean like if she died he would cry at her funeral), and Voldemort, last time I checked, did not care about anybody. I'm sorry, when Im preoccupied my words come out wrong. I'm also sorry about the marriage thing,; it's just usually when 2 people rule side by side thay are married. Notice I said USUALLY. And also, who are Lady Margolotta and Vetinari?

Ah. Yes. That makes sense. And re: marriage: I honestly can't see either of them being big on the idea.

Lord Havelock Vetinari is the supreme ruler of Ankh-Morpork, under whose idiosyncratically despotic rule everyone seems to want to live. He believes in the One Man, One Vote theory (He is the Man. Therefore he gets the Vote.) and is always in complete control of any situation he finds himself in. His vast network of spies allows him to know exactly what is going to happen before it does, and he has been described as not so much using people as puppets as setting them up to pull their own strings.

Lady Margolotta is a vampire from Uberwald, and an old friend of Vetinari's (though widely rumored to be a bit more than that). She plays chess (and Thud) with him via the clacks (which are like telegraphs) and is just as skilled a manipulator as he is. To some she's known as the "Dark Lady, who can kill you with a thought".

*cough*

They're both from the Discworld series.

Don't even get me started.  Loved them, read them all this summer, starting with the first on the Fourth of July.  I read it with the cover hidden to surprise my family with me having finished it.  They had been trying for years to get me to read them, but I was reluctant, because, as good as I was sure they were, I was afraid they would make me scared, because I scare easily.  But no!!!  They were wonderful!!!!!!!!!  Can't wait to reread them!!!!

I read them all in 3rd grade and I think I read them each a total of like...3 or 4 times, excluding the 7th which I have read twice. They are one of the BEST series EVER! I LOVE them!

Um....

TNO, please keep the topic of other things than Harry Potter, not to be mean or anything, but I think that this should be a HP thread ONLY!!!! And you too, a little bit Elizabeth....

On another note, has anyone seen the new Harry Potter trailer for HP and the Deathly Hallows part one? I cried and watched it nearly twenty times, (I watch it everyday, actually :)

You mean the HP7 trailor that is on the Blu-ray 4-disc Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince DVD? If so, then yes, it is SOOOOOOOOOOO AWESOME! I could see a little bit of Luna at the flash of the wedding!

"And if they are actually real, then you don't stand a chance." Or something like that.

*whispers* Caroline, isn't that a bit obsessive? :)

Yes, Brynne, that is very obsessive and I am proud of it!!!

NEW QUESTION!!!!!!

Okay, here it is:

Who do you think is a better friend to Harry over the years, Ron, or Hermione? (Think Hard!)

Same rules apply as to last question!

Obsession is generally not something to be proud of, m'dear. Me, for example, I have a tendency to get *really* obsessed with things (like, at the moment... well... Discworld...) and while I'm completely unashamed of it I recognize that it's probably unhealthy and rather embarrassing. Also, I'm going to shamelessly quote Pratchett and remind you that multiple exclamation marks are a sure sign of a deranged mind.

Moving on.

Re: Better friends: Hermione, I should think. Whereas Ron had a tendency to be rather egocentric and... disinclined to see things from Harry's perspective (i.e., BSoD'ing over the Triwizard Tournament fiasco, walking out on them in Deathly Hallows, general mistrust and jealousy...), Hermione was distinctly more, shall we say, down-to-earth and in some cases was supportive when Harry felt he had no one else (i.e., when everyone hated him in GoF, when Ron walked out on them in Deathly Hallows...). In other words, Hermione has never once turned on him completely, where Ron has.

Erm....

Please don't call anyone, "M'dear." In my opinion, it makes me feel uncomfortable. (I have had VERY bad experiences on the internet.)

Anyways, I totally agree with you!!! Hermione is loyal and trustworthy to Harry, while, sometimes (most of the time) Ron isn't.

I also think that Harry should have fallen in love with Hermione, not Ginny!!! <3 (Ahhhh love)
