Comfort Books
What are your...

What are your comfort books? Books that you've read so many times that always make you feel better, or that are your go-to when you're upset or have nothing to read. I'm curious what other people's are!

My comfort books are any of the Ranger's Apprentice books, they always cheer me up. Little Women is another, definitely, it's my favorite. Bookishly Ever After- it's a little cheesy (it's a YA romcom), but I've read it a dozen times and I love it. My comfort book when I was younger was Spilling Ink, which is a book about writing. I read it so often that it got to the point where I could quote it basically word for word. Trumpet of the Swan was another one when I was younger (I still love these books)!

Quill! CB reunion! Woah! Ok but yeah :)

YESSS to:

- Spilling Ink (Quill)

- Narnia (Jwyn)

- Anne of Green Gables (but really the whole series) (bakerloo, Morning)

- Rick Riordan (Silver) (srsly, I've read each of the HoO books (save SoN (*gaspp!!!* :DD that's crazy!!)) at least 8 times, prob my number 1 comfort read)

- WoF (Rainbow, Fireflye (idk if this is Firefly with an extra "e"  or someone else named Fireflye), Moon Wolf)

- Calvin and Hobbes (Tsuki, Lupine, Moonkitten, Overmorrow)

- The Phantom Tollbooth (Phoenix Tears)

- Love that Dog (Overmorrow)

- A Light in the Attic/Where the Sidewalk Ends (I didn't know the other one) (Overmorrow)

- The Mysterious Benedict Society (Barnswallow)

- Black Beauty (well, I have the abridged version) (Artemis)

- The Wee Free Men/Terry Pratchett (Artemis)

- The Scorpio Races (Artemis)

- The Girl Who Drank the Moon (Hawkstar)

also Wishtree and Crenshaw by Katherine Applegate, and like anything by Kate DiCamillo (but especially Flora and Ulysses)! It's amazing that so many people have the same comfort reads as me!

I still agree with my 11 year old self, WoF, but now it's mostly moved on to anything in the Riordanverse. Also The Chance To Fly. And A Snicker of Magic. Also to that person who a while ago mentioned The First Rule of Punk, I remember reading that book! That was a good book. Thanks for reminding me of it.

The Natsume Yuujinchou manga series has got to be one of my favorite comfort reads, I own almost all of the volumes and reread them every few months.

Okay, so I'd say HoO, WoF, and W.I.T.C.H. are my comfort books. At least, I can read them over and over and overandoverandover and not get bored of them!

I love rereading the Aru Shah series. Has anyone else read that? It’s part of Rick Riordan Presents, which are books like Rick Riordan’s but from other cultures and myths.

OH MY GOSH YES in 4th grade, at the start of lockdown, my grade was given that book (the first one) to read and I've read it now probably 7 times

Is it weird to say that my comfort book is a book about computer simulations in the context of cosmology? I mean, after a long stressful day of school I just want sit back and enjoy the author ramble about simulations, quantum physics, galaxies and black holes. It's actually comforting. Oh and the title is The Universe in a Box.

Nope, not weird at all! An insect textbook used to be my comfort book, and if I had a giant, detailed book on DNA, RNA, protein synthesis, heredity, and epigenetics, that would also probably become a comfort book.

for me my top comfort book is Wings of Fire Legends: Darkstalkers (I've read it over 20 times, yes I know I am utterly diabolical). Second would definitely be the Silmarillion, and third would be the first book of Warriors.

I read books over and over again, it's slightly obsessive but I don't care :)

I love Darkstalker! It's probably my favorite book in the series, even though it's also probably the most violent.

David Copperfield is one of my comfort books, oddly enough... once you get past the sad part of David's childhood, it's a very peaceful book, but still interesting. Mainly about houses by the sea, and Canterbury, and family life (though there are some darker themes). I love the characters too, they're so real and pleasant to read about.

If I've just been reading a darker book and can't sleep I'll always go back to wonder by R.J.palacio.

One of my main comfort books is The Tea Dragon Society by Kay O'Neill, it's like (as the title suggests) a warm mug of tea on a rainy day but in book form. The plot and characters are so sweet, plus all the tea dragons are adorable. I also really like Nimona by ND Stevenson because I've read it so many times I honestly almost have it memorized (same for Race the Sands by Sarah Beth Durst, although that one isn't a graphic novel so I don't know it quite as well). Also- A Game of Fox and Squirrels by Jenn Reese. The story itself is about a girl recovering from a traumatic experience, but it's told so beautifully and gently and I love the ending so much and it just makes me happy, even though it has a lot of sad bits.
