Yes, it is a code name.

No I haven't read Harry Potter and I can't decide if I want to or not, we have the first book. (Can we keep this to Eragon?)

Ad hominem....

I didn't think it was very well done for a first book. I thought it was very poorly done for a first book.

@hannah p.: I DO write. I write a lot; NaNo, Screnzy, various Shiny New Ideas during other months of the year... Right now I'm working on a story the prologue of which can be found on the Inkwell... And just because it's hard doesn't mean we can't critique, as Mary said.

I do that too. If there is a book that I don't like I attack it too. I get really angry when people make fun of Eragon, and Christopher paolini's writing. I respect authors ALOT, because I've tried to do some writing of my own, and it's alot harder then just picking up a pencil and start to write down words. No, No, No, it takes planning concentration, and rewriting over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over again. So the next time someone makes fun of christopher paolini's writing, they should try and do some writing of their own. I'm not trying to be rude, and sorry if I sound like I am, I just know how hard it is to write.

No offense, but actually, I think most of the people on here are aware of how difficult writing is (see Inkwell). But just because writing is hard doesn't mean that we can't critique it. Right?

I didn't mean to make it sound like people shouldn't criticise books. I even admit that there were parts that I thought were a little too much. Just sometimes so much cricticism sounds more like whining and complaining, then just comments about what they didn't like about the book.

I like Eragon. But Paolini did steal the plot from Lord of the Rings. That doesn't stop me from likeing it, though. They have the same plot, but different story's. I don't dislike Eragon and I don't LOVE Eragon either.

@ Reuben: Of course. :) And I scared Mathilda off, so...

@ BuksRul: Now that was entirely uncalled for.

When debating constructively, name-calling is typically off-limits. Rude and savage, you say? (ah, and crazy, in an earlier post...) That is one sure-fire way to turn everyone off from listening to you. No offense, and I don't mean to be harsh, especially as you're new and all, but books are not something to get this worked up over. I mean, religion, okay, politics, maybe. (Interestingly enough, Twilight seems to fall into this category as well, but different story, that.) But not books, and certainly not Eragon of all things. To quote someone somewhere whose name I don't remember... "You're going to get a lot of criticism in life, and a lot of it will be a lot more personal than someone not liking your favourite book, so if you get worked up about this, you need to grow tougher skin, my friend."

Also: Of course we don't dislike Paolini because he was homeschooled, don't be ridiculous. Some of the smartest and nicest people I know are homeschooled, and that includes plenty of Chatterboxers. It would be a very rare thing to hear someone on here saying something anti-homeschooling, because a majority of the people here are homeschooled anyway. I can only speak for myself, but personally, I don't really *dislike* Paolini, per se. I have very little respect for him as a writer- NOT as a person, note- and he is dangerously full of himself, but aside from those two things I'm sure he's a perfectly okay guy.

You cannot deny, though, that he is quite pompous.

No offense whatsoever intended towards anyone.
