I know it
Chatterbox: Blab About Books
I know it is still really early, but since the cover has been posted on Rick's blog, I thought I'd make a post about this last book in the Heroes of Olympus series.
As Blonde Heroines Rule said on another thread, I think, the American cover of the novel does seem a little anticlimactic. Not that any of the covers are especially good, but at least Mark of Athena showed the kind of seperation and unity between Camp Half Blood and New Rome, which is ostensibly supposed to be what the series is about. Personally, I prefer the English cover for Blood of Olympus, especially Gaia's wierd, Malefiecent kind of presence. And at least all the seven chosen are pictured, even if Riordan does think they look like 20 year old Abercrombie models.
What do you think's going to happen in the last book of the foreseeable Percy saga? Who do you think will die? Do you think RR will ever continue the story? Will you be relieved, as I might be, that the aimless rambles will be terminated in the place of his Norse series? And what do you think might happen, after the series is over, to Annabeth and Percy and everyone else left alive? Oh gods--I just considered the fact that Rick might be incredibly cruel and kill off Annabeth or Percy. Do you think he could be so terrible to his readers? I surely hope not.
What are your thoughts on it?

I have no idea. I've been pondering the prophesy for a long time - often lying awake in bed. But I still have nothing, except a dizzy mind from going around and around in circles. Maybe "storm and fire" mean not the weather and such, but attacks? Or does it mean Percy/Jason and Leo? Maybe Annabeth will be a sacrifice that no one wants her to make. And
then Athena, happy that her daughter finally got the Mark, saves her.
But Percy doesn't know, and gets all torn up about it. He messes up on
something big, but everything work out just as the Fates planned. And
then they reunite . . . and Annabeth does another karate move on Percy.

Top!

I'm excited for it, though the American cover is pretty... meh. The giants are creepy. I thought all the other covers were good, but this one? Eh. I try not to judge a book by it's cover though...
I think this will be the last one for Percy Jackson, maybe with some guides on the HoO series, but that might be it.
Thoughts on killing off heroes... I think Frank is probably going to die, or Leo and never fufill his promise with Calypso. *sniffles* I know, a bit pessimistic but...

I have to say that all Rick Riordan's books are amazing!! Hopefully after Blood of Olympus comes out Rick Riordan will make another series about when Percy and Annabeth are older and their children go on a quest. Hopefully Rick Riordan will not kill Percy and Annabeth because those 2 characters are the MAIN characters and that would be just awful. I am really excited for Blood of Olympus!! Happy reading everyone and have a wonderful summer!!

Oh goodness, this book. This book. I think it's gonna be fabulous. Absolutely fantastic. The Last Olympian was and I'm quite sure RR will give us an amazing ending.
And also, RR said both Nico and Reyna are gonna have POVs in this book. I'm so excited for them, especially Nico. *coughmylittlenicocough*
Anyway. Personally, I think either a. Someone really does die and I'll talk more about that later, or b. something else happens to one of them. 'Not surviving', just means they're not gonna live anymore. Which means one of them could become a god. Or Hazel could go back to the past. Personally, my bet is on Hazel going back to the past, Frank becoming a god (heck, he's so close right now), Leo becoming a god so him and Calypso can be cutie little immortals together or one of them does die. For the dying option, probably, quite frankly, Leo or Frank. Or Jason and Piper, just because so many stupid 'fans' hate them. Or quite possiblity, he'll kill off Percibeth, just to shock everyone.
In terms of other things; I think Nico is probably not gonna die. I mean, he's already basically dead. He has nothing, he's terrified, and he has such a strong connection with the dead. Let's face it: nothing would change if he died.
I really hope Piper and Jason don't die. I love them two. Perhaps they are a little perfect. But look at Percy! He's nearly perfect! So is Annabeth! Yeah. they have their quirks, but so do Piper and Jason! Goodness.
And Leo . . . *sniffles* My little Leo. He's grown up so much in the last book. I'm so proud of him. And oh, I hope he gets to furfill his promise. I honestly hope he becomes a god so they can be immortal and adorable together.
Percy and Annabeth . . . our old friends. I love them both to the bottom of my heart and I hope they make it through. If they don't, I hope they're together in the end. Because they gotta be together. Always.
And yeah. I CAN'T WAIT!!

I prefer the English cover too. I was disappointed it didn't show all of the seven, only the Romans. I don't frankly care what the characters look like on the cover, they never look how I picture them anyway.
I'm not sure who dies. Probably Leo, though there are other possibilities. I will, I admit, be somewhat relieved when this series ends, and the Norse begins. HoO just isn't cutting it for me. PJO was too awesome, and this was just a let down.
I want Annabeth and Percy to go back to Camp Half-Blood! I want an epilogue where they've gotten married, and have built up Camp Half-Blood like New Rome, where halfbloods can still live there after they've grown up. I want to see Annabeth training her daughter in how to fight with a knife, while Percy and his son watching, knowing the girls could easily kick their butts. I WANT THIS SO BAD. The other seven can be at Camp Half-Blood too, but Percy and Annabeth are my favorites. No wait, I want the proposal, and the wedding in there too.
IF RICK RIORDAN KILLS OF PERCY AND ANNABETH I WILL PERSONALLY LEAD A REVOLT OF FANGIRLS/BOYS AND BREAK DOWN HIS DOOR, HOLD HIM HOSTAGE, AND DEMAND A DIFFERENT ENDING.
Another question. What'll do you think will happen to Reyna?
Also, I'm banking on Percy decapitating Octavian.
(July 4, 2014 - 4:16 pm)
I think that Reyna and Jason both have ALREADY DEAD written on their foreheads in red ink. Jason just pops out of thin air like that *snaps fingers* with the never heard of before news that he is Thalia's sister, Jason Grace, son of Jupiter/Zeus. I think that's just carrying it a bit to far. He's not there forever, he seems like one of those characters that come in with a bang, have an important role, and die once their part is done. Reyna is much like him, with the drama toned down a bit.Why does she and Percy have a previous meeting? She could just as well be a perfect stranger to him.
Wait, she and Nico are going to narrarate? Yes, I am really looking forward to that.
Nico, on the other hand, might die. I'm thinking that although Cori did point out that nothing would be different if he were dead, that would be the point, to cause a big bang that will affect the party of people, but will not disrupt the story very much. Hazel, having died already, has a good chance of willingly dying, but if she is not properly rewarded, I will be mad.
I just had a thought - though it doesn't make sense as usual. I've been puzzling about the oath, and maybe, could it mean the vow of the Hunters? Hazel, Piper, ormaybe Anabeth could join . . . just a thought.
(July 5, 2014 - 7:21 pm)
I actually had more reasons for Nico not dying, but the Admins took them out.
(July 6, 2014 - 11:27 am)
OHMIGOSH I really really hope Nico narrates. He's awesome. :3 I seriously hope he's not the one to die...
...But, speaking of, does someone actually have to die? What if Gaea just needs a little blood spilled, like two peeps get a mild injury and bleed a bit? That would be an interesting twist.
Going off of True's interesting point what if the {I seriously hate to say this} 'Oath to keep with a final breath' is a Hunter's thing, and is something about Thalia?
This is so much fun!! Can't wait for the book to come out. :)

I'll be one of your hostage holders.
(July 21, 2014 - 5:09 pm)
I don't think Riordan would be quite so cruel as to kill of Percy and Annabeth... but I am a little worried about Nico I think he might die. I certainly hope Leo survives to go back to Ogygia because that will be so cute and he deserves happiness.
I didn't know there would be a Norse series next! Sounds cool!
I agree, the cover of BoO is a little weird. It only shows the Roman demigods, but since it's an odd-number book in the series, shoudn't it center on the Greek demigods, like Piper and Leo?
(July 4, 2014 - 6:00 pm)
@BHR: Don't worry, I and all my other Percy Jackson friends have already made a pact to do the same thing. We will come with you!
--------
So I'm out of town right now, and I will be for the next 4-6 days, but I saw this thread and I had to post!
I. Love. These. Books!!!!!!!!!! Best series ever!!(that and the first one)
Alright, I know this is super short, but I will make up for it when I am back!!!!
(July 5, 2014 - 5:11 pm)
I'm so excited for BoO!
I hate the cover. It's hideous and boring!
I think that at least two halfbloods will have to die, because it would be pretty lame if Gaia never even rose. I highly doubt that RR would kill Percy or Annabeth. He woul lose so many fans! I think it will be Hazel and Nico.
I also think the part of the prophesy, "To storm or fire the wirld must fall" means Frank, not Leo, Jason, or Percy. He'll use his life stick to bring down Gaia. This fits in with the Hazel/Nico thing.
The oath to keep with final breath is probably either Hazel/Frank about his stick, or Leo/Calypso, and it's his last MORTAL breath, because he becomes a god.
I more thoughts, but I have to go!
(July 5, 2014 - 7:05 pm)
Do you think that RR is ever going to do a series or maybe just a book with Carter and Sadie from Kane Chronicles meeting meeting the kids from Heroes and Percy Jackson?
(July 6, 2014 - 2:00 pm)
Actually, he's done two mini books in which Annabeth meets Sadie Kane, and Percy meets Carter Kane. I haven't read it yet, though they look cool! And wait, I think they're audio...
@ Corina:
I really hate when people rant that they hate Jason and Piper! Urgh! Jason has his faults, he's not a "pretty" boy, and Piper isn't like most Aphrodite girls and doesn't like getting dressed up. *coughlikemecough* Sorry, don't know where that hacking cough came from. Anyway, I really really hope Leo and Calypso are happy together :D And if RR kills either of them noooo. Or anyone for that matter. Don't we all cry over fictional deaths? Some people just don't understand that...
