Chatterbox: Blab About Books
I know there are only like...three other people on here who are fans of LOTR, but once a fan, always a fan, and I need a place on here where I can gush to my hearts' content. And where Gilraen and I can argue like heck about things. :)
Post your favorite characters, places, scenes, and quotes on here. This also counts for the movies as well: comparisons to the book, casting choices, action scenes, etc. Also your opinions on comparisons to the Hobbit films. If there's any interesting trivia you know of, share that too.
Enjoy!
My answers to the questions--
Favorite Characters: Aragorn (obvi.) Gandalf (because he's so wise and...comforting.) Sam (because who wouldn't want a friend like Sam?!)
Favorite Place: Rohan. I love Edoras, and the people of that land.
Favorite Scenes: The hobbits meeting Strider in the Green Dragon. The Council of Elrond. Frodo and Sam on Orodruin.
Favorite Quotes--
"One does not simply walk into Mordor." ~Boromir.
"If by my life or death I can save you, I will." ~Aragorn.
"A wizard is neither early nor late, Frodo Baggins. He arrives precisely when he means to." ~Gandalf.
"I shall return with the sun." ~Legolas.
I just realized all this stuff is from the Fellowship--oh well.
Regarding the films, my favorite is Two Towers--because of Rohan and the Battle of Helm's Deep. But obviously, I love them all, if only because of Peter Jackson's ability to put the crazy, convoluted story into a straight, movie narrative. My only two problems about the casting is Frodo and Elrond. Elijah Wood seemed too American, and Hugo Weaving not kindly enough, somehow.
Please please please, don't let this thread die! If you love me--or, more pertinently, LOTR--don't let this thread die too soon!

I ADORE LOTR!!!!!!!!
YOU HAVE THE EXACT SAME OPIONONS AS ME! In the movie, Viggo was perfect as Aragorn, and Sean B. was great as Boromir, and Sean A. was great as Sam. SAM'S REAL LIFE DAUGHTER PLAS HIS DAUGHTER AT THE END OF THE TRILOGY! Isn't that cool? The books are better.
"But if we stayed at home and did nothing, our doom would find us sooner or later."- Treebeard

I loved Sean Astin! And I'm soooooooo glad they picked Viggo Mortensen for Aragorn last minute. The guy they picked originally did not look like he would have worked for the part. Sean Bean totally improved the character of Boromir for me. He gave him more...humanity.
"That is not for us to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us." ~Gandalf the Grey.

YAY LOTR!!!
My awnseres:
Favorite Charecters: Aragorn, Boromir, Faramir, Pippin, and Eowyn
Favorite Place: Hmm.... I like Minas Tirith, but Hobbiton is fun to!!
Favorite Quote:
"I am the Mouth of Sauron." -the Mouth of Sauron.
I honestly don't know why that's my favorite, but it made my brother and I laugh for some reason.
About the movies; my parents won't let me see them (too violent, I guess). :(
I'm trying to use fact that I survived watching 'The Hunger Games' (at a friend's birthday party) and the first episode of Torchwood (my dad forgot about a lot of stuff in it) to convince them.
(January 8, 2014 - 6:24 pm)
My parents don't let me do anything, but I watched them when I was 9! Hunger Games were way worse!
(January 8, 2014 - 8:47 pm)
Yes, it took a whole lot of wheedling to get my parents to let me see them...
OHMYGOSH, how could I forget Eowyn??????? I love her!!!!! And Arwen, thought mainly more in the movies, when her character was expanded.
(January 8, 2014 - 9:01 pm)
Arwen is fun!!
(January 9, 2014 - 4:30 pm)
They did too much with the Arwen/Aragorn thing. Eowen: Miranda Otto rocked that role.
(January 11, 2014 - 9:09 pm)
In the books she is fun!!
(January 12, 2014 - 5:30 pm)
The love thing with Aragorn/Arwen is too much. Bleh. Did you ever watch them on a huge TV? They slobber all over each other.
(January 12, 2014 - 7:16 pm)
I didn't think they played the romance up that much. I thought there was something immensely restrained about the kissing in general. Well, at the end of Return of the King they did, to put it in Peter Jackson's words, "just snog," but compared to romance in a lot of other movies, it wasn't that bad.

Eowen is me- exept I'm not in love with Aragorn. I don't know why everybody thinks Legolas is so wonderful!
(January 14, 2014 - 6:36 am)
I think Legolas was made awesome by Orlando Bloom, who had a lot of panache. Standing alone in the books, he isn't that special.
(January 14, 2014 - 5:42 pm)
Eowyn is me, too, except I don't have blond hair and am not really in love with Aragorn, altough he is fun-fun!!
(January 15, 2014 - 4:41 pm)
I totally think I'm Eowyn. I'm not blond, I don't actually think she was in the books... As you all know, I think Aragorn's totally awesome. But I also think I have this subconscious desire to escape like Eowyn did. All of my stories are now featuring an Eowyn-like protagonist, and it's entirely not intentional.
(January 16, 2014 - 7:39 pm)
All my stories feature extreme insanity!!!
