Musicals!!!

So in the middle of the last few weeks of school I miraculously found time to watch the french musical Le Legende de Roi Arthur, which has been lying in my waiting list of musicals-to-watch for way too long and it was so good. The music and the lyrics and the costumes and the amazing actors and everything else were so crazy perfect that I now have all the songs on constant loop. And I'm so exited about discovering it(well, re-discovering it) that now I'm making this thread to talk about musicals. Feel free to share mind-blowing musicals with everyone and talk about your favorite actor or favorite song. So far I've watched Cats, Elisabeth and 1789-Lea Amants de La Bastille, and of course Le Legende de Roi Arthur.

MY TIME HAS COME!

My all time favorite is Hadestown, but my current hyperfixations are the Great Gatsby (the Papermill Theatre version, not the ART version) and Ride the Cyclone. I've always loved musicals for as long as I can remember, and I usually see anywhere from 1-3 per year with my mom or sometimes the rest of my family too!

A fun fact about Cats, since you mentioned it: My school does something called declamation, where we learn a piece (speech, poem, monologue, etc.) and recite it in front of our English class. For this reason, I have the entirety of The Naming of Cats memorized lol.

It's actually the only musical I've seen twice!! Overall I'd say I liked the more recent one better, since the actress who played Eurydice was a better singer.

Actually on Thursday night I saw my first broadway show, Suffs. It's so good! My fav song was def GAB-it's quite hilarious. And my sister, who's obsessed with historical costuming, was impressed and liked the costumes-she said they weren't completely historically accurate, but that's hard, as it was pretty darn close. And it was a Hamilton situation-historical musical where the person who wrote the book, lyrics, and music also played the main character (Alice Paul). And I got my playbill signed by most of the cast!! Speaking of the cast, it was a cast of all women (well except for the alternate for Alice Paul bc they're enby). Like, all the male characters were played by women, ofc. And I saw in the playbill that one of them was a proud trans woman, so I loved how they had that too. And not all able-bodied, either, which was also awesome, bc like not a lot of shows do that for some reason? Anyways yeah it was really really good. And I'm going to a theater camp tmrw so yay for more musicals

OH MY GOSH MUSICALS ARE LITERALLY LIKE MY FAVORITE THING EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hamilton is definately my favorite. After that, I like wicked. I got to see them on Broadway in NYC and we bought this Hamilton book with all the characters and lyrics and it's so awesome. I also love Cats. A lot of my friends think it's weird, and yes, I agree, the weirdness is what makes it so good. Les miserables is another favorite, as well as Phantom of the Opera. In spring, I was part of Wind and the Willows the musical with my local theatre. It's lesser known in the US but is the Brittish equivelant to Hamilton. Every time someone says "Satisfied" or "On my own" or "Loathing" I immediately get a song stuck in my head. Musicals are so awesome. I also saw Beautiful, the Carol king Musical; Frozen the Musical; Guys and Dolls; and the Sound of Music. I like acting musicals best, but the Greatest Showman is good too. I really wanna see Six and & Juliet.

I hung out with my theater kid friends today and we did karaoke from musicals for a good two hours :D Somehow we coordinated all of the harmonies correctly lol. It was mostly Matilda and Mean Girls because those are the shows that our school did the past two years, but we did a couple of others too!

I love musical theater!!! My all time favorite musical is absolutely Anastasia!! Everything about it--the story progression, the character developement, THE MUSIC--is so incredible. It was also first musical I did with my theater group, so now I have an emotional attachment to that show lol.  Hadestown is also one of my favotites! I got to see it live on Broadway a few years ago and it was SO GOOD. I'm still in love with soundtrack.

A few of my other top musicals: Sound of Music, Fiddler on the Roof, Mean Girls, Sister Act, Cinderella, and Beauty & the Beast!

I'm currently doing a production of Hello Dolly, which has been pretty fun! I'm just in the ensemble, but I've been having a great time. Our leads are amazing :DD
In the fall, I'm auditioning for The Addams Family musical! Unfortunately it's the junior version of the show, so some of the songs are cut out. I think it will still be really fun though, since it has a much more contemporary style than any other show I've done! I'm tring out for Wednesday and I'm so nervousss.
