What is a

What is a beginning of a story?

The first of a series of events, setting up a change that a character goes through.

What is a story?

A place for the artist to build their creativity -- a world and setting and person to color, something to tell to the audience.

I would really rather not spend our precious time thinking about the true meaning of fiction itself. Nothing is quite so black and white. Instead, I invite you to come to this Ski Lodge to explore the worlds and characters you love.

---

You are in a roped-off area with several other children your age, all of which are nervously holding their collective breath. As an over-the-top, bubbly lady clutches a paper in her stiff, pale hand you hope for dear life that the name it reads is not your own.

You are sharing riding across a glassy river with several other first-years, a few on each boat. You are all very nervous to begin this new chapter in your life, but never the the less, excited, as the purple castle looms over you, beckoning you.

Your heart is pounding as you dash towards the hill which promised safety, the one with the pine tree. You are running blindly away from the monster as your best friend instructed you, but you have no idea what it is or how your friend could possibly know.

Hello. I am The Fictionalist.

I am the personification of the human’s imagination, and all of the stories it creates. A writer, no matter the medium used to express their story, is simply the fingerprint with which a story’s painting is painted.

This will not be spoiler-heavy but it will probably contain several minor spoilers. If you hate spoilers this might not be the Ski Lodge for you. Also, it might be a while until the first part comes out because I want to have the forms with me as I plan, especially because of Camp NaNoWriMo.

If one creates a story, what is to say that it is not real, if not in body but in mind?

Day 2, Part 3:

Across the room, Nox tossed their hair, jet black with silver streaks and shrowded in galaxy-colored mist, and drew their obsidian dagger, looking quite cool while doing it.

“Twiddidly-diddy-dum-dum-do!” Lightning Girl got many stares as she shot an arrow from her thigh towards Recovery girl, managing to puncture only the fabric on her shoulder and pin  her to the wall. Recover Girl ripped free of LG’s bond with ease.

Nox ran towards her, but Recovery Girl dodged. Nerd shrieked “help!” There was a frantic hurry towards the waiting room and the four others barged through.

“What's happening!” Cried Madam Pomfrey. Katara opened a sack hanging from around her neck. Inside was water. As she moved her hands, it manipulated and formed. She did this with amazing skill.

Water bending. The water slashed through the air like a blade and quickly formed around Recovery Girl’s feet, turning to ice almost instantly and trapping her as she struggled to free herself. Will let out an incredibly loud, shrieky whistle, forcing everyone to cover their ears. “Any more and you would have collapsed,” her muttered, as a golden, glowing sword flew in just as Recovery Girl got one leg free.

“Incarcerous!” Shouted Madam Pomfrey and thick chains shot from her wand, binding Recovery Girl just as Katara was redoing the ice bonds. The golden sword pointed towards her threateningly.

“Explain yourself! Cried Nox as they also pointed their dagger towards her.

Then, Recovery Girl’s shoulder slumped and her eyes closed. Magnus Chase stepped forward, putting his hand on her wrist, and confirmed, with a grim expression, that she was dead.

“Hey Senor” Luna gaped. Was that sword speaking???

“Remember that time when --”

“Oh gods, not this,” Magnus muttered. He gripped the sword and turned him into a small, smooth stone with a symbol on it and hung him around his neck.

Will stared, horrified at what had happened and the messed up room. The ferocity slowly faded from Katara’s eyes and she looked down. Madam Pomfrey's face remained unchanged but Jaybells could sense the sadness lingering behind it.

“So she’s gone.” Muttered Niteskiies. “She’s --she’s really gone? Why??”

“I don’t know!” Said Kitty, tears in faer eyes.

“None of us do,” said Katara sadly. “That’s why we must hold on to hope -- for hope is all we have.”

“Oh, yes, and I bet its going to make you tear-bend,” said Silver. Katara glared at her.

“Sorry -- that was insensitive.”

Katara crossed her arms. “Yes, yes it was.”

***

That was only beginning, the  CBers found out, when another fictional character whose name was not specified was reported by Lina Mayfleet to have “crashed” which was what they had nicknamed Miss.Honey’s condition. After the earlier events and fight, including Recovery Girl’s odd death, the CBers had been sent back to their dorms. Kitty Cat had summoned some origami paper from faer Bag of Anything and was folding paper crane after paper crane after paper crane. fae began to teach Quill and Jaybells how to do it, too. Silver drew the book Matilda from her bag and began to read it, occasionally crying softly. Niteskiies, themysticw0lf, and Luna sat on opposite sides of the room, all three of which were scribbling in galaxy-themes notebooks/sketchbooks. Their seemed to be a lot of galaxy-themed notebooks.

Witing was reading The Magic Misfits. Twilight was stretching. Lightning Girl was sketching another still life with the objects she had drawn earlier. Wreeboo followed Silver’s example and began reading Matilda. Nerdface pulled out her copy of Confessions of a Murder Suspect.

None of them really had an appetite to go outside, other than during dinner when only half of them had appetites to eat anyways. None of them had the appetite to go outside, that is, except for Quill.

They had more questions for The Fictionalist. All of them did, really, but Quill was the one who really wanted to ask The Fictionalist.

So, they wandered around the halls of Building 5 a bit after dinner until they found the golem and entered without The Fictionalist’s permission like the last night. This time when they knocked on the door to The Fictionalist’s office it took a minute for The Fictionalist to open it.

“Yes?” She said tiredy. “Oh, its you again.” Her words were not soft but her face was kind.

“I -- I want to know -- why did that happen?” Asked Quill, slightly squekilly.

The Fictionalist shook her head. “I have no idea either but I am working on investigating that.”

“Later,” interrupted Lacun, “We’ll do that later, right?”

“No, we’ll do that NOW, or as soon as that pesky child gets out,” said Iris, who somehow still didn’t have a single hair out of place. Was it, like, made of rock or something?

The Fictionalist ignored them as she had grow so apt at doing.

“I am at least as worried as the rest of you, however, for reasons that . . . I can not share now.” She hesitated befoe she said this, then smiled. “Now, get along to bed -- we have more exploring ahead of us tomorrow.”

Day 3, Part 1

The CBers were woken up by Lina Mayfleet, who apparently had gotten permission to shout “GOOD MOOOORNING!!!” at them to wake up, which she took great pleasure in.

When the CBers came out, blearily rubbing their eyes, she repeated to them the following message:  “Ms.Honey has died. Matilda is faring better than expected. The other who crashed is pretty close to being revived, though, and he’ll probably be okay. One more crashed in the middle of the night and was recently found -- she isn't dead yet but there is not much that the healers can do for her. Your tours will continue today and they will be led by Cass, since The Fictonalist needs to do some research. Now, it’s time for breakfast! Is this everyone?” The CBers nodded. All of them had gathered around.

Afte breakfast, which most of them ate this time, there were the tours beginning. They started going down building 2 with Cass. She was still wearing her backpack -- the CBers were suspecting that she did indeed never take that thing off.  “Here Is Building 2.” She said. “It’s on the opposite side of where you had first arrived which was outside of Building 4. See, they are labeled counterclockwise.”

She handed all of the CBers maps so that they could see for themselves. In  the center was Building 5. Buildings two, three, and four each had smaller labels underneath them. They were labeled “Hall of Genres” for Building 2, “Hall of Mediums” for Building 3, and “Hall of Storytelling Elements” for Building 4. There was also a small, unmarked building at the edge which the CBers hadn’t yet seen. Luna was excited to go to Building 4, perhaps to improve their writing skills, but first they had to see the other two..

Cass told them the plan for the day: they would be exploring, which they had been supposed to start the day before but hadn’t gtten the chance to. Once they felt like they were done exploring a particular location they would move on to the next one. How much they got to explore was up to them.

Cass also mentioned how the initial plan had been to have Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle be their guide for the day. To many of the CBers’ disappointments, she was too busy taking care of some of the younger characters.

Once the CBers entered Building 2, it made sense to them why it was called a “hall.” It was long and narrow, just like a hallway. The four outer buildings were almost like walls around the courtyard at the center of which was building five, but walls with gaps at the edges. Well, except for Building 1, the dormitories, where the sleeping spots of both the CBers and the fictional characters were sticking out of it, making most of the building except for the edges wider. Nerdface very briefly considered signing a petition to naming the buildings Maria, Rose, and Sina, before dismissing the idea. Wait -- where did that idea even come from??

Anyways, the CBers were instantly overcome by all the sensations in the hall. Along the sides were rooms that were not blocked off by walls so they just felt like part of the area.

There were, sounds, sights, and even textures to everything designed to make it a more interactive experience. Some rooms were round; others were rectangular. Others were strangely shaped strangely. The hall was divided into sections painted different colors for different genres. Each of the rooms room was a subgenre. Each room was painted slightly different shades of it’s main genre color.

For example, The fantasy area, (the largest section), was painted purple. One of the rooms was light purple for realistic fantasy. The room was a hexagon with a slice in it covered in knobs and buttons on one side. There, Quill found a “create your own realistic fantasy world” simulator which they spent most of their time at. One could select a modern-day city or randomly simulate a new one, then add in ghosts, dragons, superpowered people, etc., and could  create their own magic systems.

Another room in that area was magenta for high fantasy. The room was a perfect circle with a pillar in the center that had the history of the high fantasy genre on it. On the walls of that room were several buttons that would display hologram animations of various fictional creatures. There were Wings of Fire dragons and Harry Potter dragons, Keeper of the Lost Cities elves and The Dragon Prince elves. Team The Ultimate Nerds even cam up with a game for it which they called “battle of the magical creatures” which they were sure The Fictionalist would agree was a VERY creative name. They did other roleplay games with it too, and they spent most of their time there.

Some of the holograms were animations in a  forever repeating loop (or forever until one pushed the button again). Others were like magical AIs, programmed to act and react like the magical creature would. Team The Ultimate Nerds’ favorites were the ones where they could use a series of levers and buttons to control the creature’s movements. This took a bit of practice but once they got the hang of it they had a ton of fun roleplaying and doing pretend fights using the holograms against each other. The room was pretty big so there was lots of space for a big battlefield.

There were many other genre rooms, too, even a small Save the Cat genre section. Most of the CBrs explored more in there then the ones in  the fantasy sections. Each room had at least some interactive parts, educational parts, and a “famous examples” section.

Themysticw0lf was slightly annoyed at first about the layout of the area. After all, if one wanted to go to a room other than the one they were just at they had to walk quite some distance. One time they were at the Historical Fiction section and wanted to compare it to the Science Fiction section but they had to walk over half the length of the building. They then found, however, that they were actually quite grateful for this choice of design. They got sidetracked many times on that one walk, in a goodway, discovering many cool things they hadn’t gone to or realized along the way.

The CBers spent almost the entire moning there. They got snack around halfway through, brought by Lina.  When they were finally done, Cass announced that they would be having a bit of an early lunch.

I knooow that was a weird place to leave off of, last time, like, *gasp* there’s an early lunch! There wasn’t really a good place to split the sections. Anyways, I was initially imagining doing a lot more Percy Jackson references, but that hasn’t been happening. Hmm . . .
---
Day 3, part 2:
Lunch worked different at The Campus than the other meals. Instead of everyone coming at a scheduled time, it was looser, and people came when they wanted. That is why there were already some people there and food already out on the tables. That meal they also received the sad news from Lina about another crash and death.
Meanwhile, Twilight opened a fortune cookie which said “You will die when you most expect it.” Huh. That was . . . ominous.
(Note: I just feel like saying that this is NOT meant as foreshadowing. It doesn’t actually have anything to dow with the murder mystery, it was just a way to sneak in another reference.)
After lunch the CBers explored the third building, the Hall of Mediums which included things like novels, graphic novels, movies, TV shows, (both movies and TV shows had both live action and animated sections, with animation further divided into 2D and 3D), podcasts, pieces of art (which was divided into many smaller sections like painting and sculpture,) and music. The CBers decided to spend a bit less time their than last at the last one buuuuuut they didn’t really end up sticking to that plan aaaaaaand they only ended up exploring those two halls before dinner. They were told this was fine, they would get more chances to on other days.
The CBers actually met few fictional characters there. Perhaps ot would give them existential crises or something. There were a few encounters with characters that the CBers had, however. One such encounter took place in the murder mystery section of the Hall of Genres between Jaybells and a man who had been sitting on a chair very strangely for a very long time.
“Hello,” said Jaybells. She was not one to start conversations but was curious so she circled around until she saw the man’s face. He was very scruffy-looking with a crinkled white shirt, black pants, bare feet which were rubbing against each other, messy black hair, and deep shadows underneath wide grey eyes which never blinked, not even once, during the entire encounter.
“Who . . . who are you?”
His response was simple. “I am L.”
He didn’t seem to be much of a conversationist either, so Jaybells let it go. She then watched him as he took a sip of coffee, and she saw a pile of sugar cubes peeking out of the liquid which still filled half of the cup. That . . . was a lot of sugar.
At dinner, the CBers received the news that yet another character had crashed. Not good.
All day the CBers had a lingering sort of doubt or worry in the back of their heads about the crashes. The crashes didn’t stop and they didn’t know why.
That evening, the CBers chatted for a while. They tossed around rumors -- maybe it was poison, maybe those were all fake characters, whatever -- but they weren’t really taking the dark situation seriously. Well, some of them may have been seriously thinking about it, but if so, they didn’t share.

the story's getting more interesting, no?

*hopes people have been following along*

Day 4, part 1:

On the third full day of their adventures at The Campus the CBers were going to explore some more. However, these plans were almost immediately deviated from when The Fictionalist announced that that day they would be completing a very important mission with Professor Sprout.

That morning, The Fictionalist had announced that the crashes had continued, but for the most part, they would stop receiving these notifications. The Fictionalist would lead them to the library which somehow the CBers had not yet gone to, a fact which Silver Crystal was truly awed/horrified by. I mean, how couldn’t they have seen the library yet??? This was truly tragic. Oh, and so was all the characters dying of course.

Well, it turned out that maybe, just maybe, she could kill two proverbial bird with one stone.

The CBers were led through parts of Building 5 One of the most interesting areas they passed (Of course, every area here was interesting what with the swirling colors on the walls and all) was a hallway lined with quotes. Quotes both from fiction and not from fiction about fiction. Nox read one of them: “The sorcery and charm of imagination, and the power it gives to the individual to transform his world into a new order and delight, make it one of the most treasured of all human capacities” - Frank Barron. There were others, too, such as “Those who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night” and “I seem to have a penchant for stealing things from math books.”

Another interesting part that they found was a certain patch of a rug -- not lots of confusing little scenes and designs, but instead, one big, clear scene. Upon closer inspection, it was actually several scenes combined but they looked like one.

It was a giant battle. Nox particularly liked this one and pointed it out frequently to the others.

When Silver Crystal stepped into the library, it was even bigger, better, cooler than she could have imagined.

Books were piled high in a large circular room lit with elaborate chandeliers and windows at the top -- this must be the tallest part of the building, multiple stories high! There was a gradually sloping ledge to walk on around the room to reach books and a rail thing to keep from falling off onto the carpeted floor below. There were many carts overflowing with books, too.

In the center of the room was a large circular thing, covered with books, reaching to the ceiling and with a ledge so it was like an inside out version of the room. It must look like a donut from above! As The Fictionalist proceed to show them, there were still more books on the inside of the thing in the center.

There was an arch on a section of the outer wall which led to a large rectangular room with computers, art supplies desks, chairs, board games, a couple more scattered books, and tables. That part was more like  normal library, except for the wonderful tapestries on the walls.

Silver hardly had time to admire it all before she and the others were dragged into the rectangular room where a woman whose name tag read “Professor Sprout “ was standing.

In the corner was a teenager with olive skin, dark hair in a braid, and a quiver of arrows and a bow slung over her shoulder. She was wearing a golden pin with a bird whose wings and beak connected to the outer ring.

The Fictionalist, who had followed them there, began to speak.

“Yesterday, Ella the harpy over here,” she gestured towards a small harpy which the CBers had not noticed “said something to us. As some of you may know, Ella has an excellent memory for things she reads and very often says semi-relevant quotes that she has read. Although she may not have known it, we believe whatever she read off of contained vital information about the current, ah, situation with the characters crashing and such. Ella had said --”

Then Ella interrupted. “a cure for the fallen characters. The ingredients can only be found at the gathering of stories: Morning Pod seeds and Opalblush petals, in bounty.”

The Fictonalist nodded. “Yes. That was it. Professor Sprout, would you like to take over to explain the mission?”

Professor Sprout nodded. “Yes. You see, we believe that Ella had found a cure for these ‘crashes’ as we are calling them. We would like you CBers to go and find it, and also to figure out how to make it work. We dug around in the Den of Fiction a bit and came up with the location of these two plants. They both live near the north side of The Campus, one in the northwest corner and the other in the middle of the northern edge, both in the forest, too. Half of you will go with the group to find them along with the help of Katniss Everdeen over here.” The teenager from the back corner nodded. That was Katniss.

“The other half of you will stay here, in the library, to see if you can find what Ella was reading off of. Despite my being an herbology teacher, I have not heard of either of these plants. Hopefully that page, or another with more information on these plants, will contain the information on how to put these ingredients together to make the cure.”

“That group,” Sprout continues, “Will have the help of Munira Atrushi. She is librarian.” Sprout was talking about another woman who had just walked in.

“But first!” Said a tiny voice with a British accent, coming from the area of the shelf that Ella was on. It was definitely not Ella, though, and Professor Sprout lifted the creature from which the voice was coming from so that they could see. The CBers leaned in and saw a thin man, small enough to fit in ones ear, dressed in red with a red cone-shaped hat and stickfigure-like arms and legs. Wreeboo jumped back.

“Do not worry! I am more of a writer than a fighter. I must properly introduce myself -- hello, my name is Alfur, and I am an elf! As I was saying, first the library group must fill out the proper paperwork to use the library!”

“Wait -- why would we need paperwork just to browse the library????” asked LG grumpily.

“We elves take paperwork very seriously -- it is a truly magical bond! But we can get to that later, and apologies for my interrupting,” he finished.

“Teams Wolfcats and Otherworldly will be going to collect plants,” said Professor Sprout. “That would be Niteskiies, Nox, Kitty, Jaybells, Wreeboo, and Nerdface.

“The ones staying here,” she continued,“ will be Twilight, Quill, Lightning Girl, Silver Crystal, Luna-Starr, and Writing_In_the_dark. Those, of course, are teams Illegal Lilacs and The Ultimate Nerds.”

Yes!! Thought Silver Crystal. Books! FiNaLlY.

“Now, Katniss will hand the first group a map so that they can see the location of each plant. You don’t actually know what they look like but Katniss says that she will probably know most of the other plants so it should be fine with the process of elimination.”

“Group two, as Alfur already mentioned, you should just fill out the proper paperwork so that you can use any part of the library today. Than the rest of us will begin searching when Katniss’s group goes to collect the ingredients.”

The groups divided and, just as Nerdface was walking out the door that led out of the library to the outside with the others, she thought to herself, “This sounds too good to be true.”

Day 4 Part 2

---

“I hate this quiznakking, rotten banana-like disease,” muttered Twilight as she continued to browse through the rows of books, being part of the team who had decided to search the actual shelves rather than the rest of the library. “No, more like a rotten AVOCADO. honestly hope that this will be more than a luke-warm moth-chewed source, or we will have wasted all this time on it.” The strange insults were coming.

“You’re strange, you know that?” said Writing as they thumbed through the nonfiction ”al” section along with Twilight. “In a good way. I like strange! It’s a good thing.”

“Um, sure, I guess?” said Twilight skeptically. “Anyways, here.” she pulled out a small, leather-bound volume labeled “Alchemy and It’s Secrets.”

“Are you kidding?” asked Writing. “In stories, it’s always the thick leather-bound books with the useful information hidden deep inside, not the small ones -- there probably won’t even be much information in that puny thing!”

“Let’s see then,” Twilight flipped it open, and instantly realized that she might need glasses to read the tiny text. Nevertheless, she leaned in close and began to skim the table of contents.

“Ingredients . . . page 11.” She began to skim that. Morning Pods. Morning Pods? Was there any information on Morning Pods? What about Opalblush? Any Opalblush? Would they be listed in the index? No?

In response, Writing grabbed a thick leather-bound volume on alchemy.

Earlier, Munira had shown the two where the “al” section was. (Apparently she used to work in a future version of the Library of Alexandria filled with the diaries of socially sanctioned killers.)

Meanwhile, Professor Sprout was over by the “Bo” section (botany) and Silver Crystal was at the “ma” section (for magic, particularly magical diseases). Only letters Q-U were on the thing in the middle. On the inside of that, just letters V-Z, so everyone was on the ledges along the perimeter of the place. That left Luna, Lightning Girl, and Quill searching the rectangular room of the library and also occasionally looing in nooks and crannies of the main room. Ella and Alfur weren’t being much help. Speaking of Alfur, the paperwork had been so tiny that they could barely read it at all, (Alpfur’s ‘large handwriting,’) And it even included a waiver. A waiver. For using a library. What sort of place was this???

Luna, Lightning Girl, and Quill had divided their room into thirds.

Quill had volunteered to have the largest third, aaand they were procrastinating. Again. They had the job of searching the desks and tables.

“Hey, you need any help over there?” Asked Luna, who was steadily searching the carts of books. Lightning Girl, always the loner, ignored them and continued searching the rest of the rectangular room.

“Yes please,” said Quill, before banging their head on the wall. (Purposefully)

“I’m having a sliiightly enormous case of procrastination.”

“Wonderful timing,” called LG from the corner. Luna was kinder.

“Okay, then divide the work into smaller chunks. We can divide the desks into rows or columns, see? Which do you prefer?”

“Hmm. Columns,” said Quill, matter-of-factly.

“Okay. Than how about you start at that column of desks, and I’ll start at this one?”

By the time that conversation took place, the search had already been going on for over an hour. The other group would probably be picking plants right then or something.

A few minutes later, as Luna-Starr was searching the desks in their column, they reached in and pulled out a slip of paper.

It looked like a messily-cut piece of simple printing paper. On it was written in neat handwriting in pencil: “a cure for the fallen characters. The ingredients can only be found at the gathering of stories: Morning Pod seeds and Opalblush petals, in bounty.” Luna gasped. These were the exact words that Ella had uttered. There was no more to it. And, perhaps most importantly, this was clearly not actually a part of a book.

They rushed into the main section of the library. “Professor Sprout!” Luna yelled. “I think I found the thing that Ella read off of! And it’s clearly misinformation!”

Misinformation?? Who could have planted that there? Hmm...

This sickness thingy is intriguing and I'm wondering if it is the work of some mysterious force or of the ski lodges murderer. It's also very interesting that we haven't seen any CBers be murdered yet- but who knows, maybe the murders are only going to be of fictional characters.

Anyway, this was very well written and suspenseful and I can't wait to see what happens next!

@Writing, I'm curious as to your reasoning.

Day 4, Part 3:
“The first rule of gathering plants,” said Katniss, as the CBers began to walk out of the courtyard, past a fountain with a statue, and into the grassy field beyond, “Is to only touch what you know for sure to be safe. Of course, that’s not an option this time but I checked with The Fictionalist and she said that there shouldn’t  be any dangerous plants around here, she checked . . .  emphasis on the ‘shouldn’t’ be. Lot’s of things aren’t how they “should” be. But the thing that Ella read off of clearly said “in bounty” and the location of the plants is well-labeled on the map, so we should be fine. Again, ‘should.’”
She certainly wasn’t giving the best of pep talks, Wreeboo thought. Her words were, oh . . . the opposite of encouraging, but that was okay, right?
The CBer’s first location was the morning pods, located to the north west of The Campus. It was deep in the woods, (so was the opalblush), and they were warned to be wary of dangerous plants and animals in case there should be any. Why all the ‘shoulds?’
The CBers crosses more of the grassy hills and also a stream where they had to take their shoes off and wade across in the cold, slowly flowing water. Themysticw0lf made this very serious face ith narrowed eyebrows and wide eyes, instructing everyone to look both ways before crossing.
“Uh . . . this isn’t a street, you know.” remarked Nerd.
“Well, best to be careful.”
A fish jumped right against Jay’s heels, and she jumped and giggled.
At one point, the land became more dirt than grass, and sometimes the CBers had to crawl over a hill or two. Kitty was getting tired. Fae wished that fae could go back -- that would be nice, but it wasn’t an option. This was an important mission, after all, right?
The CBers approached the wall of trees.
“Here we are,” said Nite, slightly breathlessly. Katniss turned towards her sharply.
“Yes, and here is the part where we will have to be careful. I brought a pouch that we can put all of the plants that we gather into. Two pouches, actually, so we can separate them. Now, follow my lead.”
Katniss lead them through the forest. It was a deciduous forest and the patches of light in between ithe trees that were not blocked by the trees of sun coming through gradually grew sparser. Niteskiies liked to play a game of hopping between the light patches. It kept her less bored.
Katniss pointed things out. Not so much dangerous stuff but more like “Let’s go around this rockpile -- it’ll be easier and more efficient than climbing on top of that formation, plus I don’t want you guys to slip.” She also taught them about some of her experiences from participating in the Hunger Games. “See that pine? That type of pine is the first thing that I ate in my time in the arena.”
For most of the journey the CBers got to stay along the designated path, twigs snapping beneath their feet, so they just had to kick away a fallen tree branch here or there but their path was relatively clean. After a bit, however, they had to go off the path to get to the designated location -- that’s how they could get there and when many of Katniss’s commentaries came. The landscape was rough and bumpy. At one point, Kitty slipped.
“You okay?” asked Nite.
“Yeah, I’m fine,” said Kitty, as Nite helped faer to faer feet. “Thanks, though.”
“No problem.” The CBers kept walking, following their maps, (Jay getting very confused with hers but being helped by Nox) and soon reached the designated location.
“Alright,” Katniss Everdeen began, “Here we are.”
Though it wasn’t difficult to tell which were the correct plants, Katniss pointed them out: The ones clustered, particularly near the center of the clearing, were the morning pods. They were each about a foot high with large, curled up, shiny purple leaves wrapped around something and had yellow stems.
Upon closer inspection, each set of two or three leaves was wrapped around a deep purple pod, partially open to reveal a cluster of bright yellow seeds, which were about the size of half a blueberry. Each seed had a shallow indent on one side. They were each attached loosely to the plants like peas in their pod.
“Don’t touch your eyes, mouth or nose,” Katniss warned. “And stop that,” she said, as she noticed Nite leaning in for a closer examination. “We don’t know yet how these plants are supposed to be used or whether or not it’s safe to ingest them, at least as they are. So, better yet, don’t let them touch anything but your hands and the pouches.
The CBers began to gather the pods by unwrapping the leaves, slowly and cautiously (for the most part). Themysticw0lf did yell something like "Let's see who can pick the most in a  minute!" but was given a stern look from Katniss Everdeen.
I hope this works, thought Jay.
“Umm, Katniss . . . ?” She asked slowly. Katniss had suddenly drawn her bow.
“Is there something in the woods or something? Because I don’t --” That’s when, before many of the CBers had even noticed anything was up, she drew and shot her first arrow.
Straight into Nerdface’s eye.
Her classic shot.
And the next went straight through their skull.

NOOOO NERD-

Katniss is crashing! I was just beginning to trust her :( I hope they can find the plants and save the people or more Cbers are going to die. The cause of this thing is still very mysterious and interesting, and I can't wait to see what they do next! *gasp* will they have to fight Katniss??
