Chatterbox: Pudding's Place
What is a
What is a beginning of a story?
The first of a series of events, setting up a change that a character goes through.
What is a story?
A place for the artist to build their creativity -- a world and setting and person to color, something to tell to the audience.
I would really rather not spend our precious time thinking about the true meaning of fiction itself. Nothing is quite so black and white. Instead, I invite you to come to this Ski Lodge to explore the worlds and characters you love.
---
You are in a roped-off area with several other children your age, all of which are nervously holding their collective breath. As an over-the-top, bubbly lady clutches a paper in her stiff, pale hand you hope for dear life that the name it reads is not your own.
You are sharing riding across a glassy river with several other first-years, a few on each boat. You are all very nervous to begin this new chapter in your life, but never the the less, excited, as the purple castle looms over you, beckoning you.
Your heart is pounding as you dash towards the hill which promised safety, the one with the pine tree. You are running blindly away from the monster as your best friend instructed you, but you have no idea what it is or how your friend could possibly know.

Hello. I am The Fictionalist.
I am the personification of the human’s imagination, and all of the stories it creates. A writer, no matter the medium used to express their story, is simply the fingerprint with which a story’s painting is painted.
This will not be spoiler-heavy but it will probably contain several minor spoilers. If you hate spoilers this might not be the Ski Lodge for you. Also, it might be a while until the first part comes out because I want to have the forms with me as I plan, especially because of Camp NaNoWriMo.
Form: (CBers only -- I will accept around ten people, maybe a few more)

*Even if it does not have a fandom, feel free to list it anyways! List as many as you want as there is no guarantee that I will know any of them. Oh, and no music fandoms -- only fictional things.
If one creates a story, what is to say that it is not real, if not in body but in mind?

(May 7, 2021 - 11:35 am)
I loved this part! I was wondering though, can I switch somethings from my form? Or is it already a main part of the story? I said in my form, "I may have a slight... ok OBBSESIVE... crush on Olly, if that's helpful". But that sort of faded off. Can you just sort of get rid of that? And, I'd like to add She-Ra to my fandoms! (I'd probably fangirl like mad at Catra) Thank you, if you can!
(May 9, 2021 - 5:02 pm)
omg, I would fangirl like mad at Bakugo too XD
(May 9, 2021 - 5:44 pm)
Here is the net part! Sorry his one took so long -- I was a bit busier than usual.
@Writing, sure, I can make those changes!
@Kitty, I just mean, like, "I'll try, but no promises." So I just haven't written a part with him yet but I can see if I can find the oppurtunity.

Day 1, Part 4:
Team names? What were those about? The CBers mused excitedly.
The Fictionalist explained. “You 12 will be sorted into four teams. These are also the people you will be sharing your dormitories with. The groups are as follows: Twilight, Quill, and Lightning Girl are group. Nox, Kitty, and Wreeboo will form group 2. In group three is Luna, Silver Crystal, and Writing. Group four is Niteskiies, Jaybells, and Nerdface. All of the groups are yet to be named which is what you are about to do together. Now, I will take you to your rooms! ”
“Oh, right,” she added, “and before I forget -- “ She waved a hand toward the black drawstring bags underneath the table.
“Her are your Bags of Anything. You can conjure anything that you want to you in there -- as long as it’s safe. And nothing too large, either. So, books are good, but couches and weapons? Not so much.”
Nox raised their hand. “If we only use the weapons for reasons good reasons, can we summon them? I find self defense very important, thank you very much.”
“Oh, yes, I should clarify that. I technically have to confirm everything but I won’t do so for weapons unless you talk with me beforehand. So yes. You can talk to me about it some other time so we can confirm that it’s okay and I will log it -- that should only take a minute. Now, let’s go to you rooms and you can pick team names!”
The CBers grabbed their Bags of Anything, now noticing that their names embroidered on the bags were also different colors and fonts.
In the halls of building 5, the CBers noticed that the characters all seemed to respect The Fictionalist. There was even one moment when a character came and offered The Fictionalist some tea. She seemed to consider declining, then smiled and politely said “yes.” Then she took a sip and proclaimed that it “did not taste like hot leave juice.”
She guided the CBers to their rooms.
Cass had been following them, although not her two companions. When they got to the dorms she handed each of them a bag of trail mix: “One part peanut butter chips, one part banana chips, one part chocolate chips and no raisins -- ever.”
There was a semi-circular room called the “common room” that the CBers were guided to, with couches and chairs and tables scattered about, plus an area with snacks. There were seven doors around it -- one on the flat side of the semicircle leading out to the hall back in building 1, the building which they had walked back to. The other six were on the round side and labeled, from left to ight, “Dorm 1, Dorm 2, Dorm 3, Dorm 4” and the last two were bathrooms. “Now, you have this afternoon to hang out, Cass will deliver the schedules, and then she’ll grab you for dinner. Good luck with coming up with good names!” Said The Fictionalist.
“You had better come up with good names,” snapped Iris, who had previously been quieter than normal.
“But coming up with good names is HAAAAAAAAAARD.” Complained Lacun. “The Fictionalist should know.” The four of them, (The Fictionalist, Lacun, Iris, and Cass,) left.
***
Dorm 1
In Dorm 1, the CBers weren’t doing much talking. None of them were very talkative at first, so they just started conjuring things from their bags.
Lightning Girl had only initially planned to bring a few things but, seeing that she had a Bag of Anything, she decided to grab a sketchbook and some pencils, then brought out a few random objects like mugs and things and set them up around the floor. That’s what she felt like doing.
“Wow, that’s really good!” Quill exclaimed several minutes later when they saw the still life that LG was drawing, composed of various objects arranged around the floor. “How do you do it?” Lightning Girl considered this for a moment. “It takes skill. And practice. It takes skill and practice.” She said very grumpily.
Twilight grabbed her phone and earbuds out of the Bag of Anything -- the same ones she had at home. On the way to the dorms, The Fictionalist had explained a few more things about the bags -- nothing living would work, they had to be approved by her but they would be very quickly, and the things could be suddenly created, brand-new things or things that they owned, but nothing stolen. Twilight plugged them into her ears and started listening to music.
Dorm 2
Themysticw0lf, Kitty and Wreeboo began to face the challenge a little quicker than the others. Before they had had time to unpack, Kitty Cat plopped on their bed and said “Sooo . . . group names. Like, what should ours be?”
Themysticw0lf tilted their head. “I don’t know . . . maybe, like, a combination of our names?”
“That sounds pretty good to me,” said Wreeboo shyly.
“Okay, let’s write down ideas!” said Kitty.
“I’ll do it.” Nox said as they went to grab a galaxy-themed notebook and pencil out of their bag of anything.
“Hey, may I have one, too?” asked Kitty.
“Get your own.”
Kitty huffed, but did so. “Alright, what do our names have in common?”
“Well . . .“ began Wreeboo, her two light blond braids swinging slightly. “We all have animals in our names. Except for mine. I’m not sure what it means. But I like animals, so we could do something like that.”
Kitty wrote down an idea:
The Cats and Wolves of Wree
They snorted. No, that was terrible.
“What about . . . Animal Packs?” suggested Nox. The three of them began to come up with ideas to form a list:
The Cats and Wolves of Wree (ugh)
Animal Packs
Animal Kingdom
The Wolf Cats
WolfCats
The Fluffies
The Fluffy Kingdom
WE ARE THE FLUFFIEST
The Fluffers
The Magical Wolfcats
The Fluffy Wolfcats.
MagiWolfCats
The three held vote and settled on “WolfCats.”
Dorm 3 was home to Luna, Silver and Writing. They quickly decided on “The Ultimate Nerds.” In Dorm 4 there was Nerdface, Niteskiies, and Jaybells. They came up with “Otherworldly” because they thought it had a cool, magical and alien-ish vibe. After a bit of consideration, Niteskiies pulled out from her bag a magical can of spraypaint which never ran out and could change color at her will. She then began to spraypaint the walls, creating beautiful, sloping shadows and brights spots, writing their names and “Otherworldly” in calligraphy. Dorm 1 still had not come up with a name for their team when all 12 CBers gathered in the Common Room.
The three rooms whose teams had named themselves now had labels on their doors different then “Dorm 2, 3 , or 4.” All of them had calligraphy. The second door was now labeled “WolfCats” in a dark, sloping, tall font. To the right of the word “WolfCats” was the black silhouette of a not-quite cat-like creature howling at the moon with a background of different shades of purple and stars. In place of Dorm 3 there was “The Ultimate Nerds” in thinner, lighter writing with a drawing of a person leaning against the words on the left. There were a couple books scattered around. Instead of “Dorm 4” the word there was “Otherworldly” in dark red inside of a portal made of what looked like rings of reddish brown wood, with tendrils of green flame coming out of it. Only the door to Dorm 1 had not changed.
Nerd was very jealous that she was not part of the team called “The Ultimate Nerds” -- after all, wasn’t that their rightful moniker?
“What, have y’all still not come up with a name?” Asked Writing, popping a chocolate from the snacks area into their mouth. They had just gotten addicted to these -- so what if they would have a sugar rush later? Besides, a small slip of paper claimed that they would have five times their strength for three minutes if they finished the bowl.
“Afraid so,” said Twilight quietly.
“Well,” if it helps, started Kitty, “We thought about our names and what they had in common for ours, then worked from there. You could always try something like that!”
“I guess.” Muttered LG.
“If it helps, I notice that your names have a lot of letters in common,” Silver pointed out. “See? Between the three of you there are 6 ‘i’s and 5 ‘l’s in your names. What if you did something like that -- like, with a bunch of those? What words have ‘i’s and ‘l’s in them?”
“Illegal.” said LG.
“Lilac.” said Quill.
“Illegal lilacs.” said Twilight.
The began brainstorming:
Lilt, illiterate, limit.
“We should do ‘illegally’ something positive, like, ‘illegally cool’ or something,” said Quill. “I like Twilight’s idea -- well, maybe not exactly ‘Illegal Lilacs’ although that is pretty great -- okay fine, it’s amazing -- although I don’t know if it suits us.”
“Oh, it suits us,” said Lightning Girl. The other CBers, even from the other groups, murmured agreement.
“Illegal Lilacs it is,” announced Twilight, and as the she watched the door, words began to appear, which were actually a combination of how she and the others there imagined their logo. In cursive were the words “Illegal Lilacs” in a very light, lilac purple, and behind that a drawing of lilacs (“lilac” no longer sounds like a word) fluttering in the breeze. The lilacs were darker than the words, though, so the words were still clearly visible, plus they were peeking out to the sides of the flowers. Then, however, there appeared a bright red not allowed sign, the one with a circle and a diagonal line, over the previously peaceful scene.
Meanwhile, throughout the conversation, Writing_in_the_Dark had continued eating the chocolates and had become OBSESSED, just managing not to grab the entire bowl at once. They seemed very sad when they appeared to run out, but then -- poof, the bowl refilled itself. Nerdface asked for some but Writing was VERY protective -- eventually they lent them a few.
Niteskiies continued spraypainting her room. Kitty Cat asked for it, and managed to spraypaint some cool-looking things on the walls of Wolfcats, too.
And that’s how the team names were born.

Day 1, Part 5:
There was a knock at the door. It was Cass again, without the other two. Maybe they were up to something else.
Writing, who had filled up on chocolates and was now busy drawing in the common room, groaned. “Now?”
“Yes. Eating is important. It helps keep your bodies going -- something that would be needed in an emergency situation.” she than muttered something about The Campus’s lax security and severe lack of emergency exits. “Now go alert the others.” For some reason, she still had that backpack of hers slung over her shoulder. Did she ever take that thing off??? Writing wondered as they went to grab the others for dinner.
The CBers entered the Grand Hall after crossing the courtyard and coming in. They suddenly realized that it felt far too large for just a few of them. It was extremely vast with one loooong table down it. That’s when they noticed the chattering Fictional characters. The Fictionalist had a spot at the head of the table towards the end, and she beckoned for the CBers to come to her all the way. They got the seats of honor while the other characters were further away.
Luna at the edge of the group, was seated near a bight yellow, octopus-like creature wearing a black robe. He had two tiny, round eyes on his wide, perfectly oval face and a large, ever-fixed grin, like a Jack-o-lantern.
“Why, hello there!” He exclaimed to Luna. His mouth did not move a bit. “Who might you be?”
Luna smiled. “I’m Luna. Nice to meet you. And who might you be?”
“My true name is not important,” he said, pointing at her. He only had two fingers on each hand. “But my students call me Koro-sensei! I consider you one of my students, since everything can be a learning opportunity!”
“That’s an interesting name -- Koro-sensei.” Said Luna. Koro-sensei giggled and his face became striped with bright green.
Then, The Fictionalist rose. “It is an honor for me to be hosting all of you and to greet you all today! Let our first meal begin!”
Suddenly, platters appeared covered in steaming food, Harry Potter-style. There weren’t multiple courses, it seemed, just everything mixed together. The foods were not ordinary foods -- they were ones from stories, from Katniss Everdeen’s favorite lamb stew to space goo. At one point, Kitty Cat put three pieces of bread together, one on top of the other.
“Why are you stacking the bread like that?” Asked Nox, utterly confused.
“It’s a bread sandwich.” Kitty took a bite.
Meanwhile, Jaybells and Nerface were discussing which was better -- cold soba or hot udon. They came to the conclusion that they were very different. Twilight decided to try something labeled as “fire flakes.” The moment she put some in her mouth she began to spit them out.
“So -- spicy -- too-- hot-- oww!!”
Dessert came next. The dessert options were slightly less varied. There were jelly tarts of all different kinds and flavors, from poppy seeds to strawberries.
Jelly tarts are triangular cookies, similar to Hamantaschen. They are filled with, well, jelly. Writing took an entire pile of them into their arms and got a couple stares but they didn’t particularly care, as long as they had jelly tarts.
Once the meal was done, the CBers all thanked The Fictionalist. Koro-sensei suddenly seemed very jealous of all the attention that was being directed towards someone other than him.
The CBers were guided back to their dorm rooms by The Fictionalist. “What, is it like we need a babysitter?” Lightning Girl muttered.
Quill didn't mind. In fact, there was something important that they wanted to ask The Fictionalist. So, when The Fictionalist instructed the CBers to only stay up for a few more hours, they followed her back to her office. They weren’t sure why, but they decided to follow The Fictionalist sneakily and not let themself be spotted. The Fictionalist stopped at a stone golem at the end of one hall.
“Lemon drop,” she whispered, and the golem creaked to life and out of its place, letting he through. Quill smiled. They suddenly understood and were pretty sure that they knew exactly what to expect behind that door.
“Lemon drop” they whispered, too, and the same thing happened.
Quill had been right, of course. Behind the door was a staircase which was wound in a tight spiral, leading up. They tiptoed up the marble steps and found one closed door up there. They took a deep breath and knocked on it.
“Yes?” The Fictionalist opened the door, saw Quill, looked surprised, and let them in.
Rather than strange, mysterious contraptions lining the shelves, there were books. Books about books, really. And TV shows. And books on movies, and on comic books.
The room was square and dimly lit. There were one or two windows on it. Towards the side of the room there were two chairs, occupied by Iris and Lacun. Oh great. This was going to be fun with them there. There were one or two notebooks, too, on the desk. Spotting these, Quill asked, “is this where you work?” The Fictionalist shook her head.
“I work in the Den of Fiction, but sometimes my work spills a bit into here. Now, what did you want to ask me?”
“A few things.”
“Ah.” The Fictionalist gestured towards Iris and Lacun. “If you wouldn’t mind, would you please give us some privacy?” Quill smiled at The Fictionalist gratefully (They had not liked The Fictonalist’s two sidekicks much) and randomly noticed how they had to crane their neck to make eye contact with The Fictionalist. Quill was a bit short, sure, but that wasn’t the case here. Iris and Lacun left the room, Iris sniffing and Lacun asking what was happening.
“What.” The Fictionalist sat back in her chair and lowered her eyebrows, getting serious.
“Well, first off . . . umm, I was wondering . . .” Quill chewed their lip, their long, partially purple hair falling into their eyes. “There seem to be more than just characters here. Like, I keep hearing quotes and stuff. LG quoted Mo Willems to me! Why is that?”
The Fictionalist laughed, and Quill let out a sigh of relief. “You came all the way up here to ask me this? Well, anyways, it’s because this place is imbued with the magic of fiction. It runs rampant with ideas and bits of stories, not just the characters. You might even find quotes sneaking into your brain and find yourself saying them! Now, what else?”
There was a shriek of, “Stop trying to eavesdrop, you dumbhead!” Outside.
“Well, why did you bring us here?” Quill blurted. This had been the question that had been nagging Quill all afternoon -- why the CBers? Why anyone in the first place?
The Fictionalist considered this for a long moment, then finally said: “My first answer would have been ‘Simple. Because you guys like fiction.’ But I’m not sure that that’s the case -- or at least not the only reason. I can’t answer that just yet because I don’t know the answer myself. Come back tomorrow evening, maybe I’ll be able to think of something adequate by then.”
Quill nodded and left, going back to their dorm. “Twilight already crashed,” said Lightning Girl. She’s got a weird sleep schedule.
Quill nodded and decided that they felt tired themself. As they crawled under the covers they spent some time thinking: even though they had not yet gotten an answer to their question they still felt satisfied.
