Thunderstruck right outsi

Chatterbox: Pudding's Place

Thunderstruck right outsi

Thunderstruck right outside your window and you let out a gasp as you were dragged from your dreams. The rain was pounding on your window, and lighting lit up your room in quick, silver flashes. You reached over and grabbed your water from your bedside...only to find that it was empty. You licked your lips, debating, is it worth it to leave your warm bed for some water? Of course it was.
You padded through the house, your bare feet freezing on the tiled floor of the kitchen. The house was shaking from the force of the wind, picture frames shaking on the wall. Maybe you should seek some safety in the basement? No matter, the storm was already subsiding as you brought your glass to your lips. Cool, freshwater slid down your throat chilling you from the inside out.
And then something happened you’d never suspected. Your doorbell rang, in the middle of the night. During a crazy storm. Sleeping was no longer an option, so you walked to your front door and opened it. Sitting on the doorstep was a package. Curious, you took the package inside.
Sitting in your favorite reading chair, with a pair of scissors in your hand, you opened the package up. Inside, sitting on a pile of clothes, was a message.
Dear Detective,
I am aware that you are retired, but I am hoping that your old outfit will bring you some interest in this case. My opal brooch has been stolen tonight and I hope that you can help figure out who did it.    Sincerely yours, Madame Suspectum.
You held up your old outfit and grinned, a case was afoot. You had a feeling that this “Madame Suspectum” had more secrets hidden in her home than a stolen opal.

I am not Coconut the Dog, I am still an active CBer, one that just doesn't post to often...

Anyways, here's the next part!

Day Seven, Part One

~~~~~~~
The sun rose early, shining its light over the house and warming the patio. The birds shook their feathers off and began to welcome the sun, it’s been far too long since they’ve seen it. The rain clouds had finally left, leaving only a spattering of white clouds that drifted lazily in front of the sun.
From hidden burrows the ground creatures stuck their noses out then followed with the rest of their body, the rain was gone and it was time to play!
The CBers, on the other hand, were very suspicious of the good weather. The sun woke them all up early in the morning, 6:00 and they couldn’t fall asleep after that. So they found themselves in the most popular room in the house, the kitchen, which looked a lot more welcoming with the sunlight streaming into the house.
“Good morning.” Jade grumbled.
A mumbled chorus of good morning answered her, except for the two AEs who managed to ignore the sunlight and were still happily asleep.
“Well, you all are up early.” someone said.
The CBers jumped, until they realized who it was.
“Secretary!” Sirfire gasped. “Where have you been for the past few days?!”
She shrugged, “I’ve been working.”
“Since you’re here, could you tell us where Mr. Misellus went?” Cerinthe asked. “We’ve been trying to find him for ages.”
“Are you looking for him, or something you think he has?” the Secretary asked, with a raised eyebrow.
“... OK fine. Do you know what map Mr. Misellus was looking at the night the brooch was stolen? We were hoping to examine it.” Cerinthe said.
“Ah, the map of Moonless Hunt. I can go grab it for you.” the Secretary said.
The CBers blinked, that was easy. It appeared with the rising sun they were finally going to get some progress.
The Secretary left as quickly as she came, leaving the CBers to poke around for some breakfast.
~~~~~~

Yes… this was a rather boring part. Bear with me, trying to get my ideas flowing…

Day Seven, Part Two
~~~~~~~
With the sun shining into the kitchn, it reflected specks of glass embedded in the kitchen floor, making the room looks like it was lit up by a thousand fireflies. To celebrate the sunshine, Cerinthe and Cynthia decided to bake everyone some breakfast, instead of sticking with cereal. With such a nice relaxing morning, and while waiting for breakfast to be finished, Sirfire pulled out her sketch pad and started drawing.
Moonshine was delighted to see that the birds had emerged from hiding now that the sun was out. Cardinals, blue jays, finches, and mockingbirds flocked to the bird feeders that were put out yesterday. Hummingbirds flitted through the mess of birds and drank delicately from the humming bird feeders, and a very fat mourning dove was happily bathing itself in the bird bath.
Jade was curled up in a comfy chair that she pulled into the kitchen, reading some new books she’d picked out of the library. Madame Suspectum seemed to adore fantasy books and Jade was enjoying herself greatly. She’d found an old favorite, Warriors, that she was re-reading.
And Mary was doing some origami, folding what appeared to be a big square.
“What’re you making?” Moonshine asked.
“Right now… nothing.” Mary sighed. “I just don’t have any good ideas.”
A scream came from where Cynthia and Cerinthe were baking, apparently Cynthia was cracking the eggs all wrong and Cerinthe wanted to show her how it’s done.
“No, no, no.” Cerinthe snapped. “Try it like this!”
Cynthia rolled her eyes and tried it Cerinthe’s way, which was “a lot easier” she admitted.
“You could try and make a swan.” Moonshine said.
“Maybe…” Mary murmured.
It was at this time that Night and Dynasty made their way into the kitchen, wiping sleep from their eyes. Dynasty let out a huge yawn and sat down at the table, where he watched Mary and her origami with half closed eyes.
“That Secretary is crazy!” he muttered. “Came up to my room with a big ol’ air horn. Blasted it as loud as she could and woke me up out of a great dream! She shoved some paper into my hands and told me to bring it down to the kitchen for her.”
“Oh!” Cerinthe said as she entered the eating area of the kitchen, with a big pan of biscuits in her arms.
“That must be the map of the mansion we asked her to grab!”
Cynthia followed her in, with a bowl of fruit.
“Do you have it?” Cerinthe asked.
Jade and Sirfire followed Cynthia back into the kitchen, where they grabbed plates of steaming pancakes, piping hot bacon, and orange juice along with a carton of milk. Moonshine came out with plates, napkins, cups, and utensils.
Mary busied herself with cleaning up her origami as Dynasty mumbled:
“I found Night on the landing and gave it to her.”
Night nodded and pulled out a tightly folded piece of paper from her pocket and frowned. The table was piled down with the most tasty looking breakfast she’d ever seen.
“Maybe we should look at it after breakfast?” she asked, tucking it back into her pocket.
“I second that!” Dynasty said.
The CBers quickly agreed, they needed to eat the food quickly before it got cold. After they finished eating they could look at the map.
Day Seven, Part Three
~~~~~~~~

After the CBers had cleaned up the delicious breakfast and wiped the table down to get rid of the sticky syrup, Night unfolded the map and laid it on the table.

Well… they were actually blueprints of the mansion and there were several of them, each in great detail.

One of them showed the outside of the house, one blueprint focused on the front, another the back, and two of them were dedicated to the east and west sides. Some of them showed them from the top view as well, every angle was accounted for.

They had blueprints of the inside, all floors. From the ground, to the first, second, and third floors. Then they had blueprints showing each floor separately, there was so much information on them all!

“Hey… wait!” Jade shouted, “Where are the secret tunnels on these blueprints?”

The CBers frowned, indeed the blueprints showed no signs of the secret passageways… but they had to have been included in the blueprints!

“Geez…” Cerinthe growled, “It would be so much better if we could see the plans for the secret passages…”

“Well… what’s the next big plan then?” Dynasty asked.

“I don’t know… I feel like there should be more clues to find.” Cerinthe said.

“Why don’t we take a little break?” Cynthia asked, “We could clear our heads, enjoy the sunshine (while it lasts), maybe one of us will have a brain wave?”

With no good ideas (and the sunny day calling to them) the CBers agreed to take a little break. They’d been working for a week now and felt like they deserved a little break.

They all went outside through the kitchen door, leaving it propped open to avoid locking themselves out, and ran around in the giant lawn.

But something was nagging at Jade, something she couldn’t quite put her finger on. So she excused herself from the soccer game going on and went back inside. The blueprints were still laid out on the table and she looked over them all more carefully, thinking.

Her instincts were buzzing hard, there was a clue here waiting to be discovered. And she found it, it took some time, but she found it. Hidden in the plans for the house, on blueprint number one, she saw that the scratches weren’t random… at all.

They were numbers, each one carefully disguised to look like wood.

Her breath quickening, Jade read them over and commented them to memory.

“5 22 5 18 25 20 8 9 14 7 9 19 3 12 5 1 18 5 18 1 20 14 9 7 8 20”

Now all that she had to do was figure out what these numbers meant…

End of Day Seven, please post what you think the numbers are!

Day Eight, Part One

~~~~~~
The rain was back. It was pouring down harder than ever, as if to make up for the lack of it yesterday.
The CBers rolled out of bed late in the afternoon, having spent the night staying up late watching movies and talking.
Jade, with the best intentions, forgot to mention the clue she found on the blueprints yesterday and vowed to tell the CBers today.
So, after laying in bed slowly convincing themselves to get up, they made their way down to the kitchen for some brunch.
But when they got there, they were quite startled to see a stranger standing in the kitchen, peering curiously over the blueprints.
She had bright, auburn hair that was cut short, just above her shoulders. She was wearing a black leather jacket and dark blue jeggings, which were tucked into her black combat boots.
“Who are you?” Cerinthe asked.
Startled, the stranger turned around, showing her face. She had a smattering of freckles across her nose and the strangest eyes ever, they were slanted and seemed to change color constantly.
They went from red, to orange, to yellow before settling into a kind of yellowish brown color. She regarded them with guarded eyes and said, in a fast peppy voice:
“I’m HeroesOfOlympus!”
“Oh, nice to meet you.” Cerinthe said, a tad confused.
“What are you doing here?” Mary asked.
“I’m here to help, of course!” HeroesOfOlympus said cheerfully, “Oh, right, you can call me Olympia if you want, it’s easier than using my full name.”
“Wait, you’re here to help?” Cynthia asked, confused.
“Well, duh! I already figured out the clue on the blueprints.” Olympia said. “It says ‘Everything is clearer at night’.”
“Wait… what clue on the blueprints?” Sirfire asked at the same time Jade demanded.
“How do you know about that?”
“Jade didn’t tell you?” Olympia asked, confused. “She found them yesterday.”
Everyone stared at Olympia with shock, how could she have known that if she’d just got here?
“What is she talking about, Jade?” Moonshine demanded.
“Oh, uh… I meant to tell you yesterday, but I uh… forgot.” Jade mumbled. “Here I’ll show you.”
The CBers crowded around the table while Jade pointed out the details on the wood, which were actually numbers.
“Wow, good job finding that!” Cerinthe said. “I doubt we would ever have found it ourselves.”
“Thanks.” Jade said shyly.
“But that still doesn’t answer the question of how she knew about it!” Dynasty shouted, pointing an accusing finger at Olympia.
She looked at them and smiled a mysterious smile, “Oh… I have my ways.”
The CBers looked at her uneasily, until they started fidgeting under her constantly changing eyes.
“Well… I guess we’ll just have to wait until night time and do some searching…” Jade said thoughtfully.
“I wonder if we’ll find anything different?” Cerinthe asked.
They looked at each other and shrugged, they were up late last night and didn’t find anything… so how will tonight be any different?
Welcome HeroesOfOlympus! So sorry you got to the mansion late, you’ll find a room prepared for you on the second floor.
I think I may have figured something out! I think that there might be a secret passageway in the library. I was looking back at the story and as sirfire was leaving the library you wrote that Misellus disappeared. I believe it is quite possible that he dosappeared through a secret passage...
Day Eight, Part Two
~~~~~~~

When the CBers decided to wait until dark to get some serious clue sleuthing done… they found that waiting for dark was extremely boring. To pass the time, Night was teaching Jade sign language and Moonshine was working on her strategy puzzles. Cerinthe was curled up in a comfy chair, searching the information they found and trying to piece some more things together. Cynthia had disappeared with Olympia, to "search for clues" they'd said.

And Mary was thinking about Sirfire’s story, how Mr. Miscellus disappeared before Sirfire could say goodbye. The more she thought about it, the more obvious it was! There had to be a secret passage in the library. She desperately wanted to search for it, there was only so much origami you could do before getting bored.

“Where are you going, Mary?” Sirfire asked.

“I thought I would go explore the library, I can’t shake off the feeling that there’s a secret passage in it…”

“Oh, cool!” Sirfire said, “I’ll come too, if you don’t mind.”

“That’s fine, feel free to join me. I wasn’t looking forward to exploring on my own.” Mary said, with a smile.

“I’ll come too,” Dynasty offered, “I'm bored.”

And so the fearsome threesome made their way up to the library. Where they amused themselves knocking on the walls and pulling at random books, hoping to activate the entrance. They did this for a good thirty minutes before collapsing into the chairs, close to giving up.

“Where, exactly, was Mr. Miscellus when he disappeared?” Mary asked.

“He was standing in front of the fireplace… I think.” Sirfire said.

Dynasty, he seemed to have a knack for it, was the one who ended up finding the entrance. A stone on the fireplace was slightly out of place, and when grabbed Dynasty found that you could pull it all the way out. Tucked inside was a button, which was quickly pressed. The fireplace slowly spun around, revealing a platform that they stepped carefully onto.

It spun them around, into the wall, and they blinked their eyes, trying to get used to the dim lighting in the tunnel.

Old fashioned torches lined the wall, giving off the smell of smoke and making the tunnel slightly foggy. There was only one way to go, right, so they took the path. They walked quickly down the tunnel, wondering where in the world it was going.

But, when they reached the end of the tunnel, they were disappointed to find a plain room, full of various paintings, drawings, and scraps of paper. They covered the walls, the various desks, and even the floor.

“Well… I don’t know what I was expecting… but it sure wasn’t this.” Sirfire said.

“Right?” Mary asked. “I was not expecting an art room.”

“Hey… look at this!” Dynasty called, seemingly from behind a large, empty piece of paper.

Sirfire and Mary looked at each other with surprise, where was he? It turned out that the paper was hiding the entrance to a hallway, which led to another room. This one had a large wall directly in front of the hallway, and it showed a very interesting picture.

It was a giant painting of the moon, edged with frost, and surrounded by stars that covered the slightly purple night sky.

“Wow… look at that.” Sirfire said.

Who knows what would’ve happened to Mary and Sirfire if Dynasty hadn’t come with them. Dynasty, with his excellent hearing, could hear the quiet clicks and rumbles of gears and cogs moving out of sight. They’d somehow tripped a trap.

Poor Dynasty, still feeling guilty about leading Arrow to his death, and wanting to do something to apologize to him, did they next best thing.

He saved Arrow's chatterboxer and Sirfire.

“Watch out!” he shouted, and quickly pushed them out into the hallway.

Mary and Sirfire, confused, landed on their backs in the hallway. They looked up just in time to see the room collapsing, burying Dynasty inside of it.
