I am back!
Hello lovelies! I'm back from my official hiatus, and man, does it feel good! I missed you guys a ton when I was on break, even though it turned out to be a good thing. (Not good that I was gone, but good in that I got my life going a direction I wanted it to.) (And side note, the reason why I said 'I am back' instead of 'I'm back' was because it was messing with the formatting of the post title.)
If you're new and you've never seen my name before, hello and welcome to the CB! I hope you love it as much as I do. I've been here about 3-5 years now (the timing is weird and complicated) but I recently stopped getting the magazine (sorry, Admins). I enjoy things like old British shows, Star Trek (TNG especially, but I'm watching DS9 right now), combat boots, and astronomy. I'm a writer (poetry, plays, and novels, but my main project is getting my novel This Dark Night published by the end of this year), artist (used to go by Shhh...Not Telling), dreamer, and reader, so I probably share common interests with all or most of you.
Here's what I've been doing:
-Immediately after my school year ended in May, I went to Europe! I went with my high school's top band, which I was really proud I made it into. (Fun Fact: I play five instruments, but the one I play in band is the clarinet!) I stayed for about a week in a small town in Germany, then drove to some larger German cities, across the Alps, through Switzerland, and to Florence, Italy. I was in Florence for only a few days before driving to Rome, then catching a flight back to Chicago and then back home. I'll probably post stories and pictures once this thread pops up, since I don't want to clog this opening post up too much.
-I was the costume designer for a play! My sister, Poetic Panda, put on a play this summer. It was actually fairly professional and we had an audience of about 100+ people attend. It was honestly kind of hard, but it was so much fun! The play was set in medieval times, and I tried to keep it mostly time-accurate, which meant no visible zippers, no visible buttons, no jeans, etc.
-I went on a mission trip to Flint, Michigan! I saw a couple of you mention that y'all were around the area I was at about the same time, which is kinda crazy to me. I worked around the city, cleaning parks, serving food at a food kitchen, weeding, sorting supplies for homeless people, things like that. It was eye-opening about the things that still need to be done in our world today.
And, uh... that was the fun stuff I did. I also did a lot of thinking about who I am right now, and who I want to be. That's why I kind of took this hiatus in the first place. I was becoming... I don't know, dissastisfied with myself. Like a midlife crisis, except I'm only (spoiler alert) 15. So I took some time off from life to "find myself", I suppose. (Oof, that sounds really, like, sappy and weird. Sorry.) And coming out of that, I can officially say this: if you're feeling dissatisfied, do something new. It doesn't have to be anything big. You don't have to cut your hair or travel to Europe or split from your friend group (haha, isn't that a story in itself). You can just... do something that you've always wanted to do. Drive to a grocery store and buy a pint of ice cream just to eat by yourself. Watch the sunset. Hang glow-in-the-dark stars on your ceiling. Sit down by someone new when school starts and introduce yourself. Change starts with you. If you want something to be different, do it differently. Take the first step and soon enough, you'll be walking.
So! Uh! On a side note, what's been going on down here? Who's left, who's joined, who's had a birthday or started a new RP or posted some art? I'd love to know! And I challenge you: if (hopefully when) you leave a post on this thread, add a drawing or a photo or a little story of something that you're proud of. Tell me about it. Maybe you got a new haircut. Maybe you finally drew a good hand. Maybe you got an A on a test you were worried about. Whatever it is, share it!
Anyways, thanks for reading this whole long post! My apologies for the whole parentheses thing I have going on in most of the paragraphs; I tend to over use them (see, here I go again). It's great to be back, and here's to another 3-5 years together! *hugs*

*tackle hugs back* I'M SO EXCITED TO BE BACK!
Oh, that's really cool! I think taekwondo is hoenstly really epic, and it's something I've always wanted to start doing but never have. (Hmm, maybe I should follow my own advice and do it!) You must be pretty good if you won-- I'd want you on my side in a fight!

Oh, and something I'm proud of: I got my green belt in taekwondo, and I won a taekwondo forms competition at a tournament!

*Happy squeaks* Yay, Star!!! *Tackle hugs* I actually changed my name since you left, I used to be Soren. (Hmm wow, I guess I did alot since you left...)
Wow, your summer sounds amazing! I'm a bit jealous. What was your favorite part about England?
Um, let's see. I had my CBversary on May 6th, I turned twelve, I started seventh grade, I took a sign language class and learned how to sign lots of basic words, and I wrote a novella that was 166 pages long, woohoo!!
*Whispering* Starseekers baaaaack *happiness*

*is buried by tackle hug* Oh, really? Well, nice name change, Luna-Starr! Do you go by Luna or Starr? We're, like, star buddies now! Cool!
Well, I didn't go to England, but my favourite part of it is the tea and the accent, as well as the architecture. My favourite part of my Europe trip, however, was the free time I spent wandering with my friends through the streets of Florence. There was this one opera singer on the corner, just casually singing opera-ized versions of pop songs, and her gorgeous voice echoed all throughout the city streets. There was so much beautiful architecture and street art and history and AH! (The picture attached is a building I saw. I'm afraid I don't remember what building, but it gives you a good sense of the architecture.)
Oh, well, happy CBerversary/12th birthday/seventh grade beginning! Is this your first year of middle school or your second? In my area, middle school starts at seventh grade, but I know it starts at sixth for some people. Sign language? That's cool! And congratulations on your novella! What's it about?

I seem to be going by Luna, but I'm okay with whatever you want to use. *High-fives for Star Buddies*
*Smacks forhead* Europe. Not England. Right. Ha, I want to listen to Opera pop now. XD And oh my Kyngdom, that building is gorgeous!
It's my second year of junior high *sarcastic cheers* I'm not a big fan so far, but hey, let's look at the bright side... um. I'm.... still alive-ish? XP
It's basically like... an angsty girl runs away from home to go back to her Mom's and un-angsts herself on the way. Cringy, I know, but I first came up with it like three years ago.
(August 19, 2019 - 5:37 pm)
Alright, I'll call you Luna then! It might be confusing if we had two Stars floating around, even if you had 2 r's. Yeah! Star Buddies! I think Ella Starburst should be a member, too, and then we can be like a Star-Trio. Stario?
I can promise you, life gets better after middle school/junior-high! High school is so much more fun. You have more freedom, and the teachers treat you more like teens and less like kids. Keep our chin up! It will get better!
Hey, you know what, cringey isn't necessarily bad! You wrote an entire 166 pages, even if it was cringey. You should definitely be proud of yourself! <3

Ha, I like Stario, but there's also Stardust (even though they've kinda turned into a semi-ghost...)
*Shrug* Yeah, Everyone keeps saying it gets better after second grade... and it's not like I'm going through anything extreme. I'll survive. Thanks for the encouragement, though <3
Hmm yeah, it's less cringy as a whole, but whenever I summarize this, I always think woww, this is cliche. But you're right, not many 12-year-olds can say they've written something over 30,000 words long. (((BRAGGING RITES EARNED)))
(Am I replying too much? I think I am XP)

Starseeker!! Hiii!! *hugs*
I didnt realize that you officially took a break, I just thought you must have faded off... but now your back! That band trip sounds amazing. What was your favorite sightseeing spot? I imagine Rome was spectacular.
Anywho, new with cricket? Honestly idk. Leafy made a fun survey on DtE... and I am writing a short story thing on Inkwell! Thats fun, even though I have a hard time putting my thoughts on paper. As for anything im proud of? I talked to a girl at church, and it was her first time there! So we chatted for like 15 seconds before she had to leave. But hopefully ill see her again!

Tux! Hi! *hugs back*
Yep! I didn't want to just disappear for a while and leave people wondering, so I posted a hiatus thread in May announcing what was going on. Ooh... so I already mentioned Florence as being incredible, but so was the little town I was staying in with my host family! It was so quaint and cute. In Italy, there was this sort of edge of desperation to everything, and I constantly had to watch my bag in case someone tried to steal it. There wasn't anything like that in Germany.
Oh, cool, I'll go read it! And that's awesome! Meeting new people is always fun, as long as they're nice and things like that. Speaking of church, there was an incredibly famous church in Florence that was so gorgeous. It's called the Duomo, and it was in the middle of Florence, so that you could see it from almost anywhere. I'll attach a few pictures below. (Left is the Duomo; my picture doesn;t do it justice so you should totally look it up! Right is the town I was staying in, minus a pedestrian.)
~Starseeker
I've read about the construction of the dome of the Duomo in a book called An Art Lover's Guide to Florence by Judith Testa (if I remember the author correctly). It's probably the most remarkable thing I've ever read! The dome itself is so huge and was built centuries ago with none of the technology we take for granted today. I think the book said the dome is wider across than the dome of St. Peter's in Rome, and there was competition between different architects to design it and figure out how to hold it in place.

@Admins, yeah, I remember seeing a documentary on how they built the Duomo's dome! The documentary was talking about how it should have been nearly impossible to build a stable dome with the technology they had at the time, and so they were trying to figure out how the builders had done it.
~Starseeker
I remember reading that it took the workers so long to get up inside the dome that they had a restaurant of sorts up there, so they wouldn't have to spend so much time going down for lunch then back up to the work area!

Hey welcome back. I joined right before you left so you may or may not remember me. Since you were gone I've joined marching band, turned 13, realized I have an unhealthy obsession with foraging for my own black/ras/blue -berries, and gotten about 25 more chickens. There have been more things but those are most recent.
