INKTOBER!!!

Hey artists, are any of you doing Inktober? If you didn't know what it is, it's basically just a challenge where you make one ink drawing every day for all of October. I'm so excited for this year, it will be my first year doing it. Here's a place to post your drawings, inspirations, etc.!

Oh my gosh, this is sooo pretty! I really love the simplicity of it!

Thank you so much!

And yes, it is from the Beatles!!

If you're wondering what supplies I use, I used a Pentel Pocket Brush Pen to outline for Days 3 + 4. I also will be using micron pens. To color/shade I'm just using India ink (Dr. Ph. Martin's, I think? It was just something I picked up at the store) and random watercolors and gold paint I inherited from my oma. I'm interested in what supplies you all are using too, so post them if you want!

I love it, September! Am I right in thinking that it's the Beatles? I love how loopy it is, and yet easy to read.

Stayed up too late drawing again, so here's yesterday's. It's not great, I wasn't having the best day for art. It's one of Prospero's books from The Tempest.

Day four! Hey, does anyone have any tips about ink drawings? I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing and it's so frustraiting.

Ooh! I like the chaotic-ness of it.

Let's see....I wouldn't consider myself an art professional, but then I realized that I do ink a lot of my drawings. My advice would be to use whatever ink medium you have lightly--don't press too hard. Probably try sketching stuff out in pencil before you ink it, too. (Is this cheating? Are you supposed to use just ink? Is that the point??)

Using a pencil sketch is not cheating, that's what I've been doing! For tips, I usually taper my lines a little bit (when I'm not using a brush pen, because it will already have that effect), especially around where shadows fall/lines meet. An example of this is the light part of the hair on my Day 5. I also sometimes use hatching or cross-hatching for shadows or little lines/dots to give it texture.

From what I know, the point of Inktober is to get better at inking. I'm pretty sure sketching is allowed, and there's no Inktober police to hunt you down if you make a mistake. I don't know that I have any tips, but it is a good idea not to press down with the pen like you're trying to cut through the paper. Maybe try calligraphy? There are lots of books and tutorials about that, and it's good to know. You can even get a big feather and use it as a pen if you want, think back to medieval times when monks illuminated elaborate manuscripts...

I have a quick question:

so, when it says "Ink"tober, I assumed that meant ink pens, such as felt-tips or calligraphy pens. But then I noticed that Bluebird has been using some watercolor in her sketches. Does Inktober stretch to any kind of ink, i.e. watercolor, fountain pens, ballpoint pens, Crayola markers, etc? Or is it just pens?

Thanks!

I think it's just about any sort of ink, although maybe not markers. Or, at least my art teacher doesn't think it includes markers. But fountain and ballpoint pens, surely, or else I've been breaking the rules this whole time.

The artists I've been watching online   have used watercolor. I'm not entirely sure of the rules, but I would guess that other types of ink count!

A pretty rose, just because. Tomorrow I plan to draw the perfect partner to it.
