Nyx darted under

Chatterbox: Pudding's Place

Nyx darted under

Nyx darted under the cover of an overhanging rock in the cliff face, and wiped her short wet hair out of her eyes. She scanned the valley below her feet, but it was raining too heavily to see anything. It was dark, too, but that didn't matter to her. If anything, it helped.

Leaning against the hard stone once more, the girl continued to move forward. One foot in front of the other, slowly along a narrow ledge. She gripped the rock wall hard. One foot in front of the other, slowly, slowly. It quickly turned into a rhythm, and she no longer needed to think. Until the wall that she was trusting her life with fell away, and her with it.

She tumbled to her right, away from the cliff, off the ledge, down, down, down towards the tall trees and the raging river, swollen with rain. The cape around her neck billowed upwards, surrounding her with a soft black cloud. Nyx closed her eyes and thought, if I die, at least I will die in the darkness, in a storm. The same way I came. Then her head hit something hard yet soft, like a boulder covered in a blanket, and she knew no more.

Nyx was fast asleep with a welt growing fast under her hair, but she was safe. A giant eagle had seen her falling, even with the pelting rain, and had swooped to catch her. He flew into the night, away to his aerie with the sleeping girl balanced between his wings.

_______________

So, yes, this is a RP. Here's a charrie sheet:

Name (it's kind of fun to coordinate with the power, but it doesn't need to)-

Age (12-18)-

Appearance-

Power (only one, please)-

Background-

Other-

______________

This is my sheet:

Name- Nyx Mavros

Age- 15

Appearance- Small, with short black hair and dark blue eyes. She has light skin, but it has been tanned from her many years of living out in the open. She wears black leggings tucked into dark brown leather boots, and she has a long cape around her neck, fastened with a silver bird clasp. It goes down to her feet. She has a few freckles, and would probably have more if she was exposed to more sunlight. Her shirt is tight, and it has long sleeves. It is black. Her leather belt is dark brown, and she has her dagger sheath tied around her leg.

Power- Night and darkness are her strengths. She can see in the dark, but not so well in the day. She isn't nocturnal, but she wishes she could be. She greatly prefers night to daytime.

Background- Nyx was born in a large city called Babylon (not the one you know, a different one), and both of her parents were important people. Her mother was one of three government representatives for their city, and her father was a veteran. He had been a commander in the Great War.

When Nyx turned 10, she was sent to live with her mother's sister in the valley woods. Her parents wanted to give her time to find out what her power was. She discovered almost immediately that she was a child of the Night, and so her aunt let her go when she was 13. She lived by herself until recently, when she joined a group of people around her age, in the same situation as her. They trained to be warriors.

_______________

That's when this story starts. Nyx is running from some of her friends in a training game, and then she falls. Have fun with the story, and sorry about the large amount of writing!

Name- Aspen Thistlebrack

Age-16

Appearance-Normal height, with strong arms and legs from climbing. Her fingers are constantly green from scaling trees, and her nails are chipped. Her hair is a russet red and is cut short so it doesn't snag on things. She has bright hazel eyes and a medium skin tone. She usually wears earth tone pants and green shirts. Has light but strong boots. A long scar runs from her wrist up past her elbow.

Power- She is basically like the "nature" girl. She can make plants grow instantaniously and can blend in really well in the forest. Like almost invisible.

Background- Her father was slighty crazy and her mother died giving birth to her. One night her dad snapped and ran her out of the house, cutting her arm in the process. Bruised and bleeding, she stumbled in the forest before being taken in by a half-nymph(is that ok?). She was nursed back to health and discovered her power. Then she left the nymph woman (Oaken) and joined the power group.

Other-N/A

Wait a mo...I have a question. Are people with powers like outlaws? Do we have to live separate from society or is everyone like this?

submitted by Aspen
(June 28, 2017 - 7:42 pm)

@Aspen, some people are born with a power, some are not. Most parents send their children to some sort of power detecting class-like thing, and the kids can be away for a few months. If the children do develop a power, the parents can choose to either send their kid to a camp to train to use their power for good and to control it, or they can keep the child at home. Most choose the first option.

We aren't outlaws, we just live in the woods so that we don't hurt anyone with our undeveloped powers.

Ah. That makes sense.

The trees creaked in the growing storm. The forest floor was completely dark, the shadows cast by the clouds mingling with the already present shade. The animals had all fled to their homes, ready to wait out the tempest. The rain that was before only a drizzle was evolving into a down pour, yet only a bit fell through to the lower canopy.

A lone figure darted in between the trees. A fleeting flash of bluish-white is the only thing that gives the person away.

They come to a rest under a large tree, catching their breath.

Slowly, a small vine wraps around the person's ankle, almost imperceptibly. The form doesn't notice, paying no heed to the creeper secretly making its way up their leg.

Suddenly the vine yanks into the air, flipping the person upside down. A flash of lighting iluminates the ice coming from the figures hands, blasting the undergrowth in the freezing substance.

Two vines wrap around the person's hands, pinning them to their side and rendering their powers useless.

Another form hops down from the tree above, landing on her feet next to the prone figure.

"Darn you, Aspen," the first person growls. "No fair."

The girl, Aspen, smiles.

"It's not unfair, Winter(is this OK?). I was just using my surroundings."

The vines slowing unfurl, dropping Winter on the ground.

She scurries up, straightening her clothes.

"How did you see me?" she asks finally. "I thought I was invisible."

"Your hair," Aspen replied. "You need to cover it up more."

Winter nodded sadly, then started to walk away.

"We better head back to camp," she said over her shoulder. "It'll be dawn soon"

Aspen nodded and together they slipped into the darkness.

Is this OK? Do we end at sunrise?

Cecilia~

I peek around the tree with my hood over my head, watching the girl have a conversation with the eagle.  The black jewel gleams.  She suddenly turns, and I hide behind the tree, turning to shadow.  I take a deep breath, and peek around again, this time, flat against the tree.  As she starts to walk away, I follow, landing first on the trees and then the path, then the trees again.

I don't know her.  But it would be fun to.

If she's noticed me, she doesn't care.  Who wouldn't?  It's so obvious that there's a shadow without an owner walking around.  So I turn human again.  It would be easier than being a shadow, especially if she thinks there's actually a person watching her.

Nyx listened to the eagle speak of how he caught her, and brought her back to this pillar so that she could sleep. Then she spoke.

"Thank you."

"I did only what I needed to do. I could not let you die."

Suddenly, Nyx heard the snap of a branch below her. She heard to the edge of the pillar, and sat down. Climbing up the rock was a girl.

Something about her... The two girls were similar. Not in appearance, or garment, or anything visible, really. But when Nyx looked down, she knew that they were the same.

So, what should I write about happening? Should Scarlet be playing at the camp or watching Nyx or something?

You can start your story where ever you want to. She could maybe have seen Cecilia, and started following her, (not trying to be creepy, though I tend to fail at that). Or Scalet could have been at the camp, and when they realize Nyx didn't come back, she goes on a search mission, or... Whatever you want. Those are just some ideas :D

Thanks Rae!

I've finally managed to get back to camp at the end of the day. I'm about to join the crowd of people heading toward the warm campfire when Marina comes running in.

"Nyx-seperated-don't know," she says between pants.

"How did you manage to get separated from her?" I respond snarkily.

"No, seriously. I don't know what happened to her. We were together by the edge of the cliff and..." she doesn't finish her sentence. She doesn't need to. I grab her arm and we run off to search for Nyx.

Marina leads me to the area where they had last been. I congure up a weak beam of light so we can see what's happening. There are footprints leading up to the cliff. We look at each other.

"I can't see a body down there," I say, "It's possible she's okay."

"NYX!" she yells into the darkness, "ARE YOU ALIVE NYX?"

I hope this works with the storyline!
