Chatterbox: Pudding's Place
Poetry Contest
Poetry Contest
Well, we haven't had one of these in a while, have we? Time for a new one, I say! Welcome, resident poets!
The rules are pretty simple. I am the first judge. I will give you a theme, and you must write a poem relating to the theme. Be creative with your interpretations! I will then judge the entries by a set date, and the winner will then be the next judge, and set the next theme. And so on, and so forth.
The first theme will be... *dramatic drumroll*
Stars! Whether you chose to write about the kind of stars you wish on, or the kind that take the stage, I will be eagerly awaiting your sparkly, shiny, beautiful poems. Have them in by... Saturday, March 18. Two weeks. Sound fair?
I hope to see your poems soon!

Standing in front of this weaving loom
So tall, it, well, looms over me
What am I doing here?
With the wire and string and wood
In front of me
I’d rather be outdoors with you
Running wild and free
Take the colors, mix and pick
Weaving between
Twine and stick
My mind drifts far away
To a place beneath the apple trees
High upon the hill
Overlooking the sea and sky
With your warm hand in mine
My drifting mind pays
My finger gets pricked
And red dyes the white
Making the apples plump
Your eyes as deep as the ocean below
Just as soothing and crazed
Just as gentle and fierce
Full of love for… me?
Tears that fall from my eyes
Fall into yours
Dying them blue
Though not as vibrant
Not like yours so true
The wind rustles our hair
Shaking green leaves down
Circling us like fairy blessings
Granting love for all
My sighing breath stirs the string
Tangling the threads
Making the halo of hair wild
Around your strong-jawed head
A woman's work should be indoors
Away from sun and storm
Working away at the loom
Where it is safe and warm
If I can’t be out there with you
In the danger world
Then I will keep myself busy
Weaving a tapestry of you.
(January 31, 2024 - 5:15 pm)
Weaving brightly
Colored threads
Into a picture
A creation, a
Vision of
Something that
Has happened
Before, or perhaps
Something that
Will happen one
Day, or something
That will never
Happen, it is
A tapestry woven
Of beauty at its
Finest, which is
Nature itself
Green leaves woven
Like hope or
Longing, or
Forlorn, and flowers
Blooming from
The leaves, and
A sun that is
Glowing bright
But not too
Bright, and the
Sky is a wonderful
Blue dotted with
Clouds, and of course
You and I
Living among them
Peacefully
In complete
Harmony
Not destroying
But appreciating
Respecting
This beauty that is
Nature
But alas, it is only
A tapestry, unless
Someone decides
To turn it into
Reality
(January 31, 2024 - 10:18 pm)
Ok wow this is so good...
(February 1, 2024 - 12:37 am)
tysm!!! that really meant a lot to me <333
(February 1, 2024 - 8:12 pm)
This IS really good! I especially like the part about it only being a tapestry, unless someone decides to turn it into reality :D It really vibrates deeply with me
(February 1, 2024 - 4:16 pm)
thank you so much! I love your poem entry as well, especially:
What am I doing here?
With the wire and string and wood
In front of me
I’d rather be outdoors with you
Running wild and free

would you do this to me
I weaved you my only
tapestry
out of sweat and dirt
and dust
and leaves
and you ripped it all to shreds;
every thread,
twisting
turning
in my hands
clutching empty air
and I'm reminded of your hair
falling through
my
fingers
Those long hours I spent at the loom
Writing my heart out, and all for you
Who'd rather watch it shake, break
o p e n
How are your hands still so soft and beautiful,
When mine are rough from weaving and
Bleeding from needles
Pierced through skin
By my own hands.
I have nothing to blame
but myself,
I gave you my heart, my
tapestry of dreams
and you gave it to
s ome body
else
and isn't that just how the story goes?

would you do this to me
I weaved you my only
tapestry
I thought we were friends
And I thought friends helped friends
but I guess I was wrong
in the end
so so long to that
and ARGH y'know what I'll start from scratch~

[just a disclamer, being aroace doesn't mean you're broken; a-spec people can and do live wonderful fulfilling lives without experiencing some form of romantic attraction. this is just one negative thought I get trapped in sometimes :/ also I pulled the title from the Wikipedia translation into Chinese of 'the red thread of fate,' so forgive possible errors in that]
the red thread of fate (yīnyuán hóngxiàn): an aroace perspective
sometimes I wonder if the fates laughed
when they cut my thread.
my intertwining red line seeking a soulmate,
a connection,
someone who’d always love and never leave, staying
way after forever
is it any wonder I understand string theory better than forgotten myths of romance?
that brilliant ruby, carnation, scarlet red hope
(the color of love)
so bright but I guess it was never meant to be
I guess that cheap red yarn frayed and snapped, and
became a jagged spiderweb of lies, and
fragmented fractal futures.
and maybe it’s broken or
maybe I’m broken
or maybe we’re both mirrored manifestations of hopeless irony and dripping tears.
but all I know is that
I'm scared
to die alone.
