SHAKESPEARE!
I have this insane obsession with Shakespeare, and want to know if anyone else does. Here you can post your favorite plays, characters, and other random stuff like that.
My favorite play is 'Much Ado About Nothing', and my favorite characters in it are Benadick and Beatrice.

The Tempest is about a girl, Miranda, who lives with her father, Prospero, on an island, and then there's a shipwreck on the island. It's partly romance and partly about the search for Ferdinand (a prince who was on the ship who wrecked) and there's also parts where it talks about royalty and treachery and there's also magical peoples under the command of Prospero (the girl's father) who need freeing or to betray Prospero. It's kind of complicated sounding, but it's a really good Shakespeare, especially for people who haven't read/seen a lot of his works!

It sounds great!

Hamlet is really awesome. The perfect example of Shakespeare at his best.
One item: the fact that they're all supposed to be Danish is kind of lost, since all the names are, like, Latin--Laertes, Polonius--none of them really sound Scandinavian. But I once read this essay on Shakespeare that said that he didn't write to historically recount the actions of ancient Roman/Scotch/Italian characters. It was just to tell a story and he just chose a background that seemed appropriate.

Sometimes I wonder why Shakespeare doesn't just put everything in England, which he actually knows! Especially, why are there so many in Roman settings? My mom thinks it's because of the center of the arts being in Rome and Greece and places like that.
Also, I just found the podcast chop bard, or in your ear shakespeare, and it sounds really cool, I've been listening to parts just now!

I've just finished reading 12th Night, and started on Julius Caesar. 12th Night ROCKS!!!!
I wonder that about Shakespeare, too. The people seem to all act like they're from England (Caesar is described as wearing a doublet at one point), but none of them really are. Except for the kings. Richard II!! :D

I agree, 12th night is one of my favorites. :D

I really want to read The Tempest! My Dad said it's a really good story. I know only one line from it:
"Full fathom five thy father lies of his bones are coral made. Thoses are pearls that wre his eyes, nothing of him that doth fade."

My local theater's summer Shakespeare production is Antony and Cleopatra. I fumed for a little while, because it seems too obscure and has such a dearth of female parts, but then I got to thinking that if I played a guy, it would almost be more fun. That is, of course, if I don't have to kiss the female lead, but I don't think they would put that in if a girl plays Antony. Do you think I should take a shot at it? The thing is, there are a number of other camps I want to do this summer...not sure what to do.

If there's at least one boy, they will most likely make him Antony, even if he's horrible. Then again, I saw a production of The Tempest where where Ferdinand was played by a girl. Then again, they were all about eleven.
I'd say that if there's a part you'd really like to play, then go for it. If you're indifferent about the entire play, then maybe not.

Is Antony and Cleopatra good? I'm almost done with Julius Caesar. He just died.

@ Sir Doctor:
That's the thing; it doesn't sound very good: more than the usual amount of killing and not much of a plot. Not the most inspiring thing to act.

So it's like The Hunger Games?
(Sorry, that was a horrible joke. I apologize.)

@ Gollum:
Yes, and that was a perfectly fine joke.

Re-writing The Hunger Games in iambic pentameter. That would be actually kind of funny.
