SOCKS, or, the Society of Compassionate Kyngdom Scientists, is a group of scientists allied with the Resistance. Their primary topics of research currently are the Powers, SAPs, and the Sword, Shield, and Crown, but they research many other topics as well. SOCKS was founded by an ex-BIG scientist, Blart Blartrid, and is happy to take in other ex-BIG or ex-SOCS scientists.
-
This thread primarily takes place in the SOCKS HQ in Mer. Characters can perform various experiments (possibly involving explosives!), or just hang around and chat with their friends and colleagues.
-
I figured it's high time we had an organization of scientists that wasn't evil. This thread was made to kickstart SOCKS—to get people interested in it and to make some SOCKS charries. And yes, the name was specifically chosen to be confused with SOCS. :D

Dr. Blartrid

---

"Thank you, Dr. Blartrid," Astri said, "And it is definitely worth investigating. We could discover how to shapeshift ourselves!"

"Right then." Blart nodded. "Have your list of people and equipment you'd like to bring sent to my office for approval."

He turned and walked past Astri down the hall, cane thumping the floor every two steps.

[Koe]

"Right then," Blart nodded. "Have your list of people and equipment you'd like to bring sent to my office for approval." He left, walking down the hall with his cane thumping.

"I suppose I don't need that big of a group," Koe said aloud, to herself. "Hm. Ah, I know! Maybe I could leave a notice on the bulletin board!"

She quickly printed out a slip of paper that read: Lupine Island Field Work - Ask Dr. Koeia Astri if interested! She pinned it to the bulletin board, where all recent notices and field work sign-ups went, though it was mostly used for ads and important Resistance news nowadays.

Satisfied, she returned to her office/lab, re-examining her evidence and gathering them up in a folder to bring to Lupine Island.

Anyone interested in going to Lupine Island with Koe?

I said I would join, but right now I don’t have the time to commit to an RP. I have lots of tests the following weeks and not enough time to write something.

| Theori |

Theori swung open the door to Socks HQ, slightly irritable for being late to work. But no, of course she’d taken a wrong turn somewhere, and since she still didn't know Mer well enough, the output of that was getting lost.

Which reminded her (because she was always reminded of other irritating things when she was irritable) that last night the drawer where she kept all her research had broken and all the various files and folders had fallen all over each other. She’d picked them up, of course, but the fact that they were all randomly scattered through the drawer bothered her.

She pulled open the door to her office, shut it again behind her. The door was white, calming–almost the color of a seashell. Theori loved the sea–the way the waves slapped on the shore, pulled back, slapped, pulled back. Lately she'd found herself wanting to stay there for an hour, two hours, which was odd, because she hadn't grown up by the water. But today was a work day. There was no time to think about the sea.

She opened her file drawer. Her papers were actually in a better condition than she’d given them credit for. She spent a few minutes sorting through them, found several jumbled pages of fruit fly amino acid sequences, and…decided to procrastinate that for a bit.

She took some papers out of a folder marked “BRAZEN GOO RESEARCH” and sat down at her desk with it.

It's probably easier to go to Lupine Island, instead of some charries being at HQ and some at Lupine, so I think Theori will go to Lupine, not research Brazen Goo (I'll save that for later, maybe)

Should we do a timeskip straight to when Koe and the other SOCKS scientists are about to arrive at Lupine Island?

Sorry bout that...

[Koe]

Koe smiled as she saw Lupine Island in the distance. The ocean breeze blew against her hair as she announced to the other scientists, "There it is! How about starting your observations?"

(Andrej)

~~
Standing on the deck of the ship, wearing a black cloak, hood, and veil, in order to avoid exploding into charred bone and ash under the beating sun, Andrej spoke: "Undoubtedly, esteemed mortal." He privately acknowledged the possibility that his voice had been muffled by the veil, but assured himself that he had been heard.
Of the powers afforded him by his vampiric lineage, shape shifting was not one. But hopefully, that could be... Amended, yes? Yes. Amended.

| Theri | (I'm going to drop the o because, idk, i like her name better that way?)

"There it is!" Koe said to them, as the first glimpses of Lupine Island appeared. "How about starting your observations?"

Andrej said something in reply, but since he was also wearing a heavy black veil and standing a few paces away, Theri couldn't exactly hear him. She wondered if he knew white was the color that kept you coolest in the heat, but then again, it wasn't exactly hot, and she knew the wind could be especially vicious at night.

She took out a pair of binoculars she'd bought for birdwatching (which had admittably been sitting in a dusty box for a few years) and turned towards the island to look through them. Her vision filled with greens and blues and purples which she assumed were the grass and the lupines. To the left, more lupines and grass. To the right, still more, and a flicker of movement from behind one of the rocks--she was too far away to tell who or what it came from.

She let her hand with the binoculars drop.

"They don't call this place Lupine Island for nothing," she remarked, partly to herself, partly to the aether, and taking the ship's thermometer and a notebook, started to record the data for the weather.

***

I read Moon Wolf's post about Lupine Island here (https://www.cricketmagkids.com/chatterbox/kyngdom-new/node/205679?page=2...). Is there anything else on it, or are we making it up in this RP?

[Koe]

Andrej said something with the words "esteemed mortal" in it. Koe nodded as if she could hear the whole thing, before turning to Theri, who had taken up her binoculars.

"They don't call this place Lupine Island for nothing," Theri commented, likely referring to the many lupines dotting the island.

Koe took her own observations, noticing the certain air that had a whimsical feel, like it was magic. But Koe knew that all magic was really just science, on a different level. Like teleportation powers were just taking apart your particles and putting them back together elsewhere. So in a sense, magic didn't exist. And that was why she was at Lupine Island, to find out how shape-shifting really worked.

"Do you think it's safe to dock?" Koe asked.

---

We can make it up in this RP. Just anything that doesn't contradict with the legend.
