Oracle Meeting

Aviance, Mina, Icy and Sprocket all gathered at the edge of the Resistance camp. The glow of the moon made their faces look slightly purple.

"Shall we walk?" Aviance suggested. The four dark figures slowly began to walk across the fields in silence. Suddenly they heard a noise behind them. They whipped around to see a frozen Connie, her expression one of shock and embarrassment, a broken stick underneath her foot.

"Connie?" Aviance whispered. "Why are you here?"

"Umm... I wanted to hear the Oracle speak," she replied sheepishly. "Sorry, I know, I know, I wasn't nominated, and I don't have a fancy title, but... can I come along? Please?" The four girls looked at each other.

"Alright," Sprocket said. "But be quiet, please." It was too late for anyone to be walking alone and they were already very close to the flower.

Mina gasped.

"Look," she cried. The flower towered above Kyngdom, it petals unfurling out over the hills and forests, looking wisely upon the towns and cities. The full moon shone brightly above it; it was a majestic scene.

Quietly the five girls, cloaked in darkness, began to climb up the notches in the side of the flower's thick stem.

I walk through the forest, and see a huge flower. There aren't very many big flowers, unless you're in Wonderland, so I place my luck on that purple flower.

I walk to it and look up seeing animals and the shadows of some people. I don't know why this "Oracle" picked this time of the year to meet on a flower, but the bugs are out and Alexandria is dead, so yeah.

I begin my climb, and pass animals that stare at me.

"Never seen one fo your own kind on two legs before?" I mutter.

Finally, I reach the top where a confrontation is going on, and to the side of the flower sits the piece of **** himself, Catastrophe.

"Interrupting something?" I ask in a sweetly sarcastic voice.

Aviance looks back at me and sighs. "Mina."

"Yes, it is Mina," I respond. "And you are Aviance."

Sprocket sighs. "Mina, not the best time to be...um...you?"

I laugh and my expression grows dark. "Trust me, if I was me right now, Catastrophe would be dead. Anyway, I also come to bring you news."

"What?"

I sigh. "Well, Alexandria is dead."

"I knew that," the Oracle replies.

I roll my eyes, while someone starts crying.

"I can see everything over Kyngdom, and everything is seen."

"Whoop-dee-do, you've got a creepy magic eye or something, right? Or is it a crystal ball."

"Mina, respect is required in the presence of the Oracle," Aviance mutters.

"'Oracle,'" I guffaw.

They're still in shock about Alexandria.

I stand there and wait for them to process it, but I'm afraid none of us really will.

Just so you guys know, it'll be easier to imagine Mina's personality as being similar to Han Solo's in Star Wars. Doesn't really believe in the Force, but in this case, the Oracle, even though everyone else does, saracstic about it, etc.

In sheer anger at missing the Oracle, I swing for the blossoms.

The entire flower begins to catch on fire, the leaves shriveling, the stem blackening, animals jumping to the ground.

"Fare thee well, Resistance. Icy, give Ronan my greetings." I jump down, and begin to fall.

Just as I hit the ground, I vanish, and end up inside the Jöküll. The stone corridor has dust rain from the ceiling all over it.

Who needs a stupid Oracle when you can have a Relic?

Who plays the Oracle?

*in character and story*

Connie stood speechless, staring at the Oracle who had risen and called her name,  her eyes closed tight, something going on in her mind.

"Connie," she repeated. Her eyes opened and she turned, grabbing Connie by the shoulders, her hair wild, her shawl having fallen away. Her eyes bore into Connie. They were hard to describe, they were huge and whirling with a million illusions. In them Connie saw herself reflected, but instead of Mina, AViance, Icy, and Sprocket's shocked faces and the huge petals behind her, she saw a battlefeild. Animals and humans alike were struck down, screams echoed. And she, Connie, held a sword... but not just any sword.

"Cornibus Salvator Ales," The Oracle's voice cut through the silence. "You will live to your name!" She cried. "You will be... the..." her voice cracked. "Saviour..." Connie had a million questions, but no sooner had the Oracle finished than her eyes cleared and, without warning, the huge petal they all stood upon rose and hurled them to the ground, leaving the Oracle at the top.

Mina looked surprised for a moment, and... was it worry? Hurt? But no sooner had Connie tried to identify it than her expression cleard to one of annoyance.

"What a lot of rubbish." SHe rolled her eyes. "Saviour, yeah, right."

Hehe, I already left before she made any prophecies. Sorry lass.

Anyway, I'm not sure if we should have one designated "saviour." Kind of controlling, deciding the one person who'll save Kyngdom.

I thought that the Oracle was played by you, Connie.

I thought so, too. And I agree, it is a little controlling to declare yourself the one savior of Kyngdom.

Sorry! I don't play the Oracle, I promise. I was just following what the Oracle had said... Connie doesn't have to be the 'one Saviour'. I agree -- that would be unfair. Maybe she could... do something special, or find something? I don't know. I was surprised when I read the Oracle's post!

I checked, and you never actually said anything about what exactly you would save. You could absolutely be the savior of something smaller.

Man, flashback to the Fable Thatcher story... The crowdsourced one called The Girl Who Writes The Future? I made a one-time visit to the CB because I desperately needed to point out that nobody specifically said she was going to die, everyone just jumped to that conclusion, and she could just lose her powers or something.

Also, I'm not the kind of person who would 'declare myself' the 'one savior' of Kyngdom. That would be super controlling, not to mention selfish and rude. I have no problem with Connie playing a big part, but I don't want to exclude others.

CAPTCHA says rgbd. Is that like... roy g biv? Nice one.

"Give Ronan his greetings!? GIVE RONAN HIS GREETINGS!?"

I'm furious, really. A tiny voice inside my head wonders if it's because of the way I feel about--I CAN'T AFFORD TO THINK ABOUT THAT NOW! THE FLOWER IS BURNING!!!

"I'd like some wings right now. Someone give me a Power, please?" I mumbled under my breath as I ran from the wall of heat, running and climbing and fleeing.

My backpack feels to have gotten heavier than usual as I make a mad scramble downwards, and--my feet hit the turf.

"RESISTANCE BASE. NOW. BRING HER." I pant, pointing wildly at the Oracle.

Despite the fact that we killed a national monument, I would say we succeeded our first resistance mission.

Safely back in the Resistance Base, Connie sat on her bed, getting ready for the funeral. She wore a black dress that fell just below her knees and a black jacket with a hood. She had black heels, fancy but in a way that was appropriate for a funeral. Apparently, you needed a partner, so Connie was going with David, and Aviance was going with Vol (obviously).

The rain is perfect for right now, she thought, looking out of the foggy window. The rain was her favorite weather, but it encompassed the feeling of the past 24 hours. How everyone was devastated but they had to be strong. How suddenly it seemed that a burden had been placed on her shoulders by a girl she barely knew, but who had seen into her world. What had the Oracle been saying?

"You look beautiful." David said, standing at the door suddenly.

"Thanks," she smiled.

"What's wrong?" He asked, taking her arm as they began to walk downstairs.

"I think... we should talk about it after the funeral." Connie decided. David nodded his head.

"Of course." He wore a black shirt and black jeans, not a suit; but somehow it looked more meaningful than a suit could. When they got downstairs, they saw Aviance and Vol. Aviance motioned for them to follow her, and they approached the exit. One after another, they spread their wings and soared out into the rain. Below, Connie saw the remains of the Oracle's flower; the tree where the Small Turtle's lived, their tiny green figures dressed in black exiting. She saw the rubble left from bombed homes as they passed over East Wilton. She saw SailHaven, floating in the distance. She saw caves where expeditions had taken place, open feilds where children had played, forests where people had gone mad and given way to the wild. She saw Kyngdom, and as they approached the lone hillside covered in begonias, she felt tears drip down her face; not only because a child was dead, but because her Kyngdom, her home, her childhood, was almost gone. She swallowed her tears, needing to stay strong; knowing that the things Alexandria and the others had died for were the things that were fgoing to bring it back. Maybe not her childhood, maybe not her old home; but her Kyngdom? That, they would fight for.

"So, why are we here?" AViance asked. Connie had gathered Aviance, Vol, David, Bird, and Lucina in her room.

"Well... does anyone here speak Latin? I don't want to ask anyone else, I think they might be mad at me."

"Um... I do." David volunteered. Connie turned to him.

"Really?" Vol asked. He nodded.

"Well, what does... what does my name mean?" Connie asked. David took a piece of paper and a pen fo=rom the bedside table.

"Hmmm. Ales means bird... Salvator means savior, but in this context it means rescues..." D\avid scribbled.

"The bird rescues... wait." Connie's face wrinkled.

"Well, what does Cornibus mean?" Bird asked.

"I always thought Cornibus meant... uh... horns. That's another reason why I go by Connie."

"The bird saves horns? What?" AViance looked extremely confused. Connie put her head in her hands.

"Sorry, guys. You can go now."

"But why would..."

"I have no idea in hell why my mother chose to name me, 'the bird saves horns.' But I guess I should go tell the others that I'm a pointless excursion, and the oracle must have meant a different Cornibus Salvator Ales. Hopefully, there's not another, cause I don;t want the world cursed with another me." Connie muttered. Aviance gestured for the newcomers to follow her.

"I'm going to show them their room," she said. "Good luck."

"I'm going too." Vol followed her.

"The Oracle probably got mixed up. She probably meant Mina or Icy or something. Or maybe SHadow's name means 'this is the girl who's going to help save Kyngdom' or something in French." Connie turned to David, who was frantically scribbling away.

"Wait!" He suddenly cried.

"What?" She leaned over his shoulder to get a better look at the paper.

"Cornibus means horns, sure, but what if we split up your name?" He gestured to his writings.

"Cor means heart, and Nibus means ends. So..."

"The bird rescues heart ends? What the heck?"

"No, maybe it's... the bird rescues the end of the heart. The bird saves the heart from ending. You, the bird, will help save the heart of Kyngdom from dying."

"So... maybe... I might be able to help?" David hugged her suddenly.

"Of course, Connie! If your name meant 'pig eats corn', you would still help. This just means that you might play a large role." Connie smiled. She was glad he'd come back.
