Oracle Meeting

Oracle Meeting

Aviance, Mina, Icy and Sprocket all gathered at the edge of the Resistance camp. The glow of the moon made their faces look slightly purple.

"Shall we walk?" Aviance suggested. The four dark figures slowly began to walk across the fields in silence. Suddenly they heard a noise behind them. They whipped around to see a frozen Connie, her expression one of shock and embarrassment, a broken stick underneath her foot.

"Connie?" Aviance whispered. "Why are you here?"

"Umm... I wanted to hear the Oracle speak," she replied sheepishly. "Sorry, I know, I know, I wasn't nominated, and I don't have a fancy title, but... can I come along? Please?" The four girls looked at each other.

"Alright," Sprocket said. "But be quiet, please." It was too late for anyone to be walking alone and they were already very close to the flower.

Mina gasped.

"Look," she cried. The flower towered above Kyngdom, it petals unfurling out over the hills and forests, looking wisely upon the towns and cities. The full moon shone brightly above it; it was a majestic scene.

Quietly the five girls, cloaked in darkness, began to climb up the notches in the side of the flower's thick stem.

The many leaves were crowded with animals; it was nerve-wracking to see them all, of so many species, all gathered here together.

They were all crowded together and it was difficult to wade through. I whipped out a Cypher from my pocket just in case--

A Robin hovered in front of me, it's wings spread majestically in the shimmering full moon.

The Cypher bleeped as the Robin chirped.

"You're here to see the Oracle." The Cypher screen said. I nodded. "Yes, do you have any advice?" The Robin chirped again and the screen bleeped. "Why." The Robin had apparently said flatly. "For the Resistance." Connie said loftily, spreading her wings so that they caught the moonlight.

Aviance nudged Connie but looked pleased.

The instant the word Resistance left Connie's lips, the entire leaf-full of animals began cawing and growling and snarling and making so many other noises. I caught blurred snatches of it on the Cypher. They agree--they disagree. There's so many mixed emotions.

But the Robin apparently likes that. A chirp and a bleep. "Here's my advice--play it humble, but don't over exaggerate. Be honest. And there's Catastrophe Traitors of the animals on one of the leaves." The Cypher Screen said.

I nodded.

"Hurry!" Mina said as the crowd of animals parted to let us through.

Aviance and Connie led the way, followed by me, and at last followed by Sprocket, who had been Cyphering with an animal and had something clutched in her hand. I looked at her but she just gave her head a brief shake.

The Oracle is patient. She sits and waits as she sees the girls climbing atop the many leaves. And, under her breath, she mumbles words of prophecy.

Ohhh, so that's what that is. I assumed it was just a giant wisteria or princess tree or something, although it also looks a little like a grape hyacinth. Maybe a butterfly bush, or sage?

I bet we have to get inside of one of the petal-blossom-things....

I walk along towards the large flower, my red cloak billowing out behind me. I'm determined to make it to the top first. Who knows who'll be there?

As I walk, the ground turns black where I go. Plants shrivel. The night becomes darker. This has just started to happen, but it's good. It means I'm getting stronger. The more Relics I have, the stronger I am. I've brought the Sword of Ravenmore just in case that idiot Ronan shows up. He always shows up.

And here I am at the base of the flower. Many animals are on the leaves, cawing and squealing and barking and who knows what. Several cloaked figures are making their way up. I've got to stop them. I charge up the stem of this lily, scattering animals as I go up. A robin screams at me. As I catch up to the figures, I realize not one of them is tall enough to be Ronan. I swear under my breath.

One of them turns around-and it's the Powerfriend! "Catastrophe!"

"Yes, Icy. Me. Who do you think I am, trusting someone else with my important work?"

Another figure turns around. It's the cat-person. "An evil man who's going to-"

"-kill you all slowly, yes. I am slightly dissappointed that Ronan isn't here. He gets so huffy. Very amusing. Where is he, Powerfriend?"

"As if I'm telling you! And he doesn't get huffy!"

"Oh, really? And why would you be defending him in such an odd way?"

Icy says nothing. All five of the figures speed up. We're almost to the top. But I can't let them out of my sight. I use my energy to wilt one of the leaves in front of them, bringing the company to a halt.

"We are going to go at the same pace. Understood?"

And then we're at the top. And there's nothing, except for some measly blossoms.

"I'll bet it's a test," one of the cloaked figures says.

But how do I get inside? Do I slash the thing open? This won't be as easy as it looked from the valley...

We all look at the bundle of petals in front of us. I cast a nervous glance back at Catastrophe. He stands there, glaring at the pod as if the meer action of staring will make it open.

"Well," I break the silence, clapping my hands. "Are you going to kill us now, Catastrophe, or wait until we do the dirty work for you?"

He turns his glare at me, small tendrils of darkness coming towards where I am standing.

I stare down at them as they come up to me and disapear. I can feel a rush of energy as the shadows seep into my skin. I take a deep breath.

"Thanks for the energy boost. I'm a vamp, so that whole "dark magic" thing doesn't really affect me."

He scowls, then turns back to the flower. I walk up to it and tap it with my right hand. I can feel some of the energy sink out of me, and the pod begins to shake.

I step back uncertainly as the petals begin to slowly open outwards. They fold out into a flower with a raised center. Sitting on the small mound is a girl in a plain blue dress.

She raised her arms towards us. "Welcome, travelers. I am the Oracle."

You're the idiot, Catastrophe! What kind of a half-wit like you doesn't understand the part of me not being there? I want to fight you, actually, with magic, swords, whatever you choose. It's time I finally ended a pile of vermin. In fact, a pile of vermin is higher than you!

Mina, for the sake of the others who are going to be with you once you get here...

Shush.

(Ronan here, hi! Don't worry about offending me, 'kay? 'Kay. Continuing...)

The Oracle is quite a sight. Her eyes are all foggy and she looks a bit disheveled. Not very much like an Oracle, if you ask me.

I step forward, suddenly realizing something. If the Oracle decrees that the Resistance will win against me... maybe...

I bring down the Sword onto a blossom with a loud zap! Everyone jumps except for me and the Oracle, who sits there. I'm seriously beginning to doubt her truthfulness.

I was right. I was right! The Shield is in front of me! I've got the Shield...

All of a sudden, a head-pounding amount of energy begins to encircle me. Black lightning. When I touch it, it gives me a nasty shock. I turn to Icy, right on the edge of the leaf with her friends.

"Nice shield, yes?"

"You realise you're not going to have it for long." I say to Catastrophe, glowering at him.

He gives a self-satisfied smirk that soon vanished. "Just say the prophecy."

Then my mind clouds and I remember no more, just the words--

"One, Four, Five, Seven."

Armies gather, great and small

Some will rise and some will fall.

Hours of toil, sweat, regret...

Powers of all must fight those they create; and for which have burning hate

Each have to interlap a Power's specific need.

Why do you hate in vain?

I tell of a rise on wings.

The chances are four, but four, four....

(@Admins, please don't mess with the format for the Prophecy; it's important. Trust me.) My eyes open to what only the eyes can see but not brain or heart, and Catastrophe's face is twisted to a side in a satisfied smirk/poker face.

"Prophecy? Sounded more like a fortune cookie. Whatever, now that that's over, we have no need for you." Catastrophe says, smirking again, and a deadly noise of sword scraping against leather cuts through the air. His sword--his scabbard...

I am calm. My inner Eye has not told me of an end yet--but, perhaps, maybe I can fake my way out of this one.

But before a word leaves my lips, I hear startled yells as wings brush against me and I feel hands gripping mine--but, don't they know that nobody has touched me for centuries?! How undignif--

And I realise, suddenly, I'm leaving the flower. The flower that was so perfect to help my powers grow, the flower I have not left for centuries--"The shield!" I whisper hoarsely as I hear shouts from the top of the flower, yelling and someone's scream.

And, at last, at the base of the flower, I am facing my rescuer. And, suddenly, a word bubbles to my mind--although my mind wasn't cleared of biased thoughts at that moment--and I know my rescuer's name.

Connie.
