Who else here
Who else here writes fanfic???? I do, all the time. To date, I have about 26 stories that I'm either working on, have finished, or have discarded. I write mostly Lord of the Rings fanfic, and Silmarillion fanfic, but I started a Redwall one too, which didn't really work out. Oh, and HP too.
I seem to be going insane witth one shot vignettes. That's all I write these days!!!!! I did come up with a awesome plot though (nothing will induce me to tell you what it is until I perfect it!!!)
Who else writes fanfic???

I don't write fanfic, also because I sort of feel like I'm copying someone or lessening the quality of the work...pretty much like the comment above. And I just prefer canon in general.
@"Xharlotte": That actually looks pretty cool with an X. :)

Yah, I know what you mean. And fanfic can be horrible. I won't even go into slash. But I love fanfic...I don't ever feel like I'm taking away from the book. Sure, it isn't the best thing to write...but I still love it.

I never read slash, just on principle. Some fanfic sites, though, everything is either rated R or above or it's slash. Actually, on just about all fanfic sites, I find, just about everything is terrible. And yet I keep on looking for the good stuff.

I highly recommend The Sugar Quill. For some reason, just about all the fanfic there is good. A lot of it places much more emphasis on romance than I personally care for, but there are still certainly many that aren't, and you can usually tell what it's about by the summary. Also, you can search by character, so if you want stories about, say, Luna, you can find them easily. Hermione doesn't work, though, unfortunately; the top results are romance, and even the ones that aren't often have Harry as a main character. Anyway, I haven't come across a single story there yet that wasn't good, so that at least is wonderful. I especially recommend Mind's Eye: Soul's Reflection: A Luna Lovegood Story. It's amazing, though I might be a bit biased in its favor due to having so much in common with the main character (considerably more than in canon, actually, not that she's very different).

I don't normally like writing fanfic, but I LOVE reading it. I make a point of avoiding the inappropriate stuff, but slash doesn't really bother me unless it gets totally out of hand. Which it tends to.
