JulNoWriMo!
Basically, it's the same thing as NaNo, but it's in July (hence 'Jul.'). I didn't have the chance to do NaNo, so I was delighted to learn that I could do it now. However, there are a few disadvantages. There's no YWP, and if you don't check the box saying that you're 13, you can't sign up, so anyone under 13 who wants to do this must lie about their age. I also don't know if the winners receive their novel in book form. It wasn't mentioned on the website, although I've enquired about it, so I should find out soon.
Chances are, doing NaNo once a year is enough for most of you, but if anyone does want to do it again, or couldn't participate last year, you can probably signup by Googling it.

Apparently, you don't get your novel in book form for July *sigh* Oh well.

Hey, that sounds cool! I'll think about it. I just turned 13 last week, so that's not a problem.

Yeah. There are actually many NaNo-like events throughout the year that I just found. The quickest way to find all of them, as far as I know, is to go to NaNo's YWP site, then go to Writing Resources, then go to 'I wrote A Novel: Now What?,' then scroll down until you find he list. Not a quick way, but it's all I've heard of. And it's only the YWP that has the list; it's not on the regular NaNo, which is odd...
And don't ask me what I was doing on the YWP site in the middle of June. I really have no idea. I suppose it may have been boredom...

Mmm yes it is. The I Wrote A Novel, Now What? regular site page can be accessed by a link on the homepage.

Oh. I suppose I must have missed it...

ZNZ's post isn't up yet, so this is a reply to my own thread, not to her comment. Anyway, you don't get the book form of your novel. Oh well.

Lying about my age is never a problem. /immoral
I knew about JulNo because of the I Wrote A Novel, Now What? page, but I don't really go for the knockoffs so I wouldn't normally do it... although it might be a good excuse to get away during our two-week NC trip. *scowl*

sounds really cool! I'm always too busy to do NaNo in November so this sounds like a golden oppurtunity to stay motivated.

Same here...
(June 8, 2010 - 4:44 pm)
Hmm, would they be mad if someone 2 years too young did it?
(June 8, 2010 - 5:14 pm)
@Ann: Be a little quiet about this, but you have to lie. By this I mean pretend you're thirteen. If you say you're 11 or whatever, they will delete you. I speak from past experience. Lying online, btw, is not bad like it is IRL. As long as your parents are okay with it, you can really do any online program.
(June 9, 2010 - 2:49 pm)
Right. I'm actually not 12 yet, but I'm doing anyway... If it makes you
feel any better, you can at least say that you turn 13 the day you sign up, so as to be a bit closer to your own age. That's what I did... But you really can't do it without lying. Here, they won't delete you, they just won't let you sign up at all.
If, however, you really want to do the program but don't feel comfortable saying that you're 13, or your parent(s)/guardian(s) won't let you, you could always just write a 50,000-word novel in July without signing up. That works, too.
This is completely unrelated, but I just learned that the first NaNoWriMo was actually held in July... It was only moved to November because of the weather. People are more likely to want to stay inside and write in Nov. than Jul.

@Ima: You're not twelve yet? Wow, you seem a lot older than that. I assumed you were twelve at least.
(June 12, 2010 - 1:16 pm)
Thanks! I think... But no, I won't be 12 until mid-July.
(June 13, 2010 - 5:10 pm)
No, 's a good thing! I mean you come off as older because of how intelligent and mature you are. Which is good.
