november novel writing challenge :D
it’s almost that time of the year again, folks!! for those of you don’t know, during the month of november, a lot of writers challenge themselves to write a novel - traditionally, the exact goal is 50,000 words, but you can aim to write as many words you want :D
this thread can be for sharing word counts, talking about your novel, asking for advice on a scene you’re stuck on, encouraging each other, whatever :]
if you’re planning on doing it, good luck!! :D

I want to attempt to do it, but I'm not sure how to track how many words I write. How do you count your words?

@Moon Wolf: If you write on Google Docs then you can highlight the passage you want to count the words of, go to the 'help' button and type in 'count words'. When you click that it'll tell you how many words you have highlighted.
I'm planning on doing a version of novel writing month! Basically I usually only write super short form stuff, like flash or very short short stories, and they're always plot or concept focused, never character focused. I've never been very good at developing characters and sticking with them, so this year I'm going to do a character-focused short story collection. I'm not sure if I'll actually stick with it but I'm actually kind of excited about my concept and have about six pages written already (which for me is a LOT haha).
what about you, pangolin? I'd love to hear about any projects you have in the works :D

For Google docs, you can also go to Tools and click Word Count. If you don't want to do that every time, there's also an option to display the word count while you're typing on that too :)
Yes, in other programs, too, look for Tools, then Word Count.

Oh that's a really good idea! I haven't even started yet because I don't really know if I can make it work even though I have a story idea I love- I did a writing challenge last year and got to 10,000 words but I wrote every day and I don't think I can do that this year because for some reason eighth grade is wayyy harder than seventh grade and I've been really busy. That looks like a good middle ground!
