Ann and Mary Liz's Story!
Okay, Mary Liz, I think we should do fantasy. I had a good one about a girl trying to learn to ride dragons, griffins and phoenixes in this thing called Flightschool. To pass from 5th to 6th, they have to have their own Flightbeast, which they get from a place called the Firepool. It is a giant volcanic pool filled with Flightbeast eggs. The eggs chooose you, and no egg has chosen the girl yet, so she should be in 7th grade, but is still in 5th. On the trip that they take to the Firepool, she runs off into the woods because a girl is teasing her, and she finds a very small, ice-cold pool. In the pool is a single jet-black egg. She takes it in her bag and when it hatches she finds out that it is a dark magic little black griffin. Dark magic Flightbeasts are supposed to be excecuted, but it is actually very nice so she decides to run away so that they don't kill it.
I hope you like the idea. Bye!

((Oh, oh, I'm sorry, I just got back from the March, so I'm exhausted and crazy, and Tired ML cannot write. Ask anyone.
I'll post tomorrow after the service project in the morning, yeah?))

In the stable, Shay was surrounded by the odd sounds of the variety of beasts mixed with the excited chatters of the girls. There was a general state of disarray for a few minutes while two of the teachers talked amongst themselves about the recent salary decrease. The teachers at Flightschool--- or most of them, anyway--- moaned to an insufferable degree.
Shay caught the occasional snatch of conversation. "...so excited...!" "...can't wait 'til we start..." "...wonder what it's like...?"
Sally and two other girls, Monique and Shara, were talking a few feet away. Monique said something, pointing towards Shay. Shara and Sally giggled, but Sally also shook her head in mock disapproval. "Be nice, darling," she heard Sally say.
At last, when Shay thought she could bear the stench of the animals and the noise of her classmates no longer, a teacher clapped her hands for silence. "Quiet down, girls," she said. "Miss Liola, that applies to *everyone*."
Liola reddened. "Ma'am," she muttered apologetically.
The teacher nodded in acknowledgment. "Now let's begin, shall we?"
((oh, writer's block, rawr.))

"The first girl in line will pick a dragon or pheonix for the flight to Firepool. Due to the season, the griffins and pegusai are in hibernation, so they are temporarily gone. Sally, go!" Sally smiled and led a small, golden brown dragon out of the stable. "Liola!" Dragon, again. "Rose!" Dragon. "Letty!" Dragon. Every one of her classmates chose a dragon. Not surprising, considering that pheonixes were nippy and tempermental most of the time. Usually, there were just enough dragons for the whole class. This time, though, the teacher would be flying whith them, and she had chosen a large red dragon, which meant that Shay had to fly a pheonix. "It figures.", she thought.
(January 26, 2010 - 4:45 pm)
The phoenix, of course, wouldn't fly.
While Sally and her friends soared around on their dragons, having followed the instructor's directions to a 't'--- some of them were falling and having a bit of trouble, but in general everyone seemed like naturals--- Shay was on the ground. She seemed to be doing everything right. Of course she was. She'd done this before, hadn't she? It had to be the phoenix. It wouldn't fly.
While Shay muttered mild curses at the phoenix, Sally swooped down with a benign smile. She petted her dragon's head and then swung around to face Shay, sitting side-saddle. Her ankles were crossed prettily. "Having trouble, dear?"
"A bit," snapped Shay.
"Oh?" Sally said quickly. "That's too bad. But you should feel fortunate, darling! Think of all the people worse off than you are! Why, just yesterday I broke a nail!"
Shay stifled a sort of exaserpated choking sound. "Do you have any idea what it's like to have a real problem, Sally? A real, serious, life-effecting problem?"
"Of course!" gushed Sally, soundig affronted. "My hair frizzes up all the time, you wouldn't believe it!"
Shay raised an eyebrow.
Sally seemed not to have noticed. "Again," she continued scoldingly, "you really shouldn't be so selfish. So you're not the best at flying." Sally tossed her hair and giggled. "So what? It's not like you've lost your favourite bottle of nail polish or something. Some of us have real issues to concentrate on, dear, just keep in mind!" She added a "La-lala-la!" for no real reason, before flying off again.

Sorry, must post on weekend.
(January 29, 2010 - 7:32 pm)
"Please land in an orderly fashion!" The teacher (Mrs. Cole) screeched, then, with a softer expression, turned to Sally. "Sally dear, could you help me round up your classmates?" The class assembled underneath an old tree by the edge of the field. "I need a straight line, and no one may leave the group. If one of you gets lost on this trip, your parents may sue me. I'm having a hard enough time, what with the salary reduction." Mrs. Cole glared in the direction of the superintenants (?) office. She then mounted her dragon, and pushed off." Follow me!"
(Sorry, more later)
(January 31, 2010 - 9:46 am)
"Fly," hissed Shay to her phoenix. "Fly..."
The phoenix snorted. It did not fly.
Shay frowned. "Mrs. Cole," she called, "Mrs. Cole, my phoenix isn't flying---"
Mrs. Cole, already high up in the air, could hardly hear Shay. "You're having trouble, dear?" she called. "Alright, okay, I'll send someone back down to help you"--- she snapped a finger. "Sally! Miss Sally, go help your peer. She's confused."
Sally began to protest, then smiled charmingly. "Of course,' she said, barely concealing a snarl.
She flew down in a huff and flounced over to Shay. "What on Earth is your problem?" she hissed. "Look, I'll help you, because I'm perfect, but this is a big day! You're not going to mess this up for me just because you're an oaf who can't do anything right!"
Shay bristled. "Well, you don't have to help me if you don't want to."
"I know," said Sally sweetly. "That's what makes me so nice."*
*((Yeah, that was a direct quote from Popular. Ssh. Don't tell anyone. ;D))

At first, Sally approached the griffin with ease. She bent over and whispered in its ear, then stood up, sickeningly self-confident. "Now try", she said. "It should work." Shay mounted, and tried to ease the pheonix forward. It turned its small head around and glared. Sally frowned, with an annoyingly puzzled look on her face. "Funny", she said. "That should have worked."

((Wait, was there s'posed to be something in that Giant Blank Space?))
(February 7, 2010 - 12:11 pm)
(No! What happened? Any explanation, Admins?)
I don't know what happened, but I just fixed it. (I think.) For some reason a few miles of returns got posted after the comment.

((Thanks, Admin!
Aw, you got the 42nd post, Ann. :) *gives cookies*))
"It should have," snapped Shay, "but it didn't. So what do I do now?"
"Stay behind and miss out on getting your Flightbeast while I go on with the rest of the class?" suggested Sally slyly, with a hopeful flutter of her eyelashes.
"That's funny. That's realy funny."
"I know," beamed Sally.
"Do something! Please!"
Sally pouted for a minute. "I suppose you could fly with me..." She stuck out her tongue and crossed her eyes. "Not that that would make me happy in the least." She stomped a foot.
"Really? You'd let me?" Despite herself, Shay was thrilled.
Sally sniffled sacrificingly. "This might help my chance to be valedictorian, so yes."
"Oh, thank you, Sal!"
"You're so selfish," sighed Sally. "Or maybe just overwhelmed by my generosity?"
Yeah, thought Shay. That's what I am.
You're welcome. It's very satisfying when I actually know how to fix something!

((I'm really sorry, Mary W. that my posts are usually so much shorter than yours, so I'll try to make this one long. ))
Shay smiled as she trudged across the long, open training field. She got to the stables, opened the door, and tethered her pheonix to the empty stable. Then, she walked over to where the enourmous Rok dragons usually stood, picked up a leather harness, and sprinted out the door to where Sally was standing. She then tied the harness on to the dragon's tail and strapped herself in. Sally mounted and pushed off, joining the line of dragons flying east. They were on their way. ((End of chapter one, perhaps?))

((I'm so sorry, Ann, that I'm so lousy at responding. Don't mind the short posts, I'm much worse, like I said, responding... Hurrrr.
Anywho! End of chapter one, yay!))
//Shay//*
"So Shay!" bubbled Sally, any trace of hostility gone. "I love your... headband! Where'd you get it?"
Shay, still slightly disoriented, blinked. "Headband?"
Shay nodded encouragingly.
"Oh, this," said Shay offhandedly. "Um... I really don't remember."
"That's okay, I don't really care," said Sally cheerily. "Do you like *my* headband?"
"Um, love it." Shay's eyes roved over the miniature landscape below. It was amazing! Flying was amazing. The day held such potential. She purposely tuned out to Sally. To use her companion's words, she didn't really care.
*((Sorry, I've been trying to harness the habit of putting the POV in //double slashes// before each official post, but it's not working... ignore it if you like. :D))
