Crumbling and overgrown since the late sixties, the only thing most people ever see of the Hillside Motel is the neon sign, unlit for the past few decades. The Hillside Motel, or what remains of it, is nestled deep in the forest somewhere between Mount Vernon and Stanwood. It lies on a short strech of the pacific highway called Bonnieview Road. From there, you can see both Snohomish and Skagit County, their riches and wonders lying bare and free.

The sign has, of course, been dark for years and years.

Until now.

The neon light has, somehow, returned. The Motel is, somehow, refurbished. And slowly but surely, guests arrive at the Hillside Motel. They have seen the sign. And it has, for lack of a better term, opened up their eyes. So the guests come. Alone, or in groups. Walking, crawling, eager, sullen. In trucks hailing from Montana, in Dodge Caravans from Spokane. On foot. Hitchers and bored Nepo babies from Seattle. Prince or Pauper, Knight or Knave, the same thing awaits all guests. A key to a room with two beds, a radiator, and a televison that has cable on it. Free access to the pool. And a discount if they order from Little Caeser's.

And, of course, there are many tales that one could tell about the Hillside motel, the strange folk who visited it, and the odd things that take place there, even to this day...

OKAY! i haven't done any roleplays since before my two year hiatus, so i might need a little help! pretend you're helping your grandfaher set up an email, but instead of helping your grandfather set up an email you're helping a nonbinary teenager set up a roleplay.

okay, so it's nothing like that first thing i said at all.

i'm gonna be pretty laissez faire, you can do whatever, as long as it isnt HORRIBLE.

i was going to write under an SI, but then i posted a question about how RP's work in the random thought/things like some RUBE

Layla can talk to Inanna if you want.

>Layla<

I make my way down to the lobby and spot a girl sitting on one of the chairs at the lobby. Maybe I should make some new friends.

I walk up to her and say, "How is your day?"

Okay, here goes nothing (let me know if I mess something up)

-Eric-

The bus accident hadn't left Eric with major injuries at all, just a few cuts and scrapes here and there. He wasn't too concerned about it, though he did wish he'd packed band-aids. They'd cost him an extra three dollars to buy at the motel.

Eric's grandma, ever the worrier, had given him money in case something like this happened. He'd taken it after failing to talk her out of it, thinking he'd send her the money when he got home safe. Now, he was quite grateful to have it, sitting on the bed in room 213 and tending to his injuries. The band-aids were purple. Eric was pleased. He liked purple.

He glanced over at the window, which did not shut. "At least the wind isn't bringing in the smell of the dumpster," he said to himself. "That's pretty lucky, since I'm… right above it." He frowned. "I should call the moms."

So he called the moms. The moms were not pleased.

"You're stranded?" Mamá said over the phone.

"How could we let this happen?" Mom sobbed. "Our only son. Stranded at a motel. Do you have money? Food? Are you injured?"

"I'm fine!" Eric said. "I am a mature young man who can handle himself. I have already put band-aids on my injuries."

"You hear that! He has injuries!" Mom was not reassured.

"They're minor!" Eric promised, wishing he hadn't said anything. "I'll be home in a few days, soon as they fix up the bus."

"Should we come get you?" Mamá asked.

"No, no," said Eric. He lived quite a distance from the motel, and didn't want his moms to waste vacation days from work to come get him. "Don't worry about me. Grandma gave me money in case something happened, so I have some. I'll call you every night. I'm sure they're fixing the bus right now and I'll be home soon."

It took some more reassurance and a promise not only to call every night but to text them each morning, but finally Eric's moms told him they loved him and hung up. Eric felt a pang of sadness when they finally hung up. He missed his moms.

His stomach grumbled. He headed out the door to see if this motel had any food.

ok, i'm inexperienced with roleplaying. do i rp as, like, the staff, npc's etc? i'm intending on maybe having a couple characters as well, but, y'know

I am also inexperienced with roleplaying! So take all this with a grain of salt. I don't see anything wrong with having your own characters; sure, do it if you want to! It's your own roleplay after all! You make the rules! :) actually, that goes for all the questions I think. Rp as the staff, as you've sorta been doing, if you want (which btw all your responses are somehow absolutely delightful too? Actually, everyone's are? And haha more positive input than you deserve? Never! That's impossible!)! Rp as npcs if you want (or, in my understanding, I think everyone could technically roleplay at the npcs to have them interact with their characters?? Actually idk. And now I'm getting confused as to whether Gretchen is the staff or a npc). Um yeah actually or maybe wait for someone else who actually knows what they're doing to respond.

Wow Celine! That was so majorly helpful! Uh yeah anyways,

(also I'm assuming she/her is fine for Gretchen bc that's what other ppl used?)

*/Meadow Flowers*\

Meadow was not ordering from Little Caeser's. Even if they were the "official pizza sponsor of superbowl lviii" yada yada yada. And especially not if it was just to get a discount on food they didn't even like.

Pizza was gross. There was nothing more to it. Plus, that whole "Little Caesars Love Kitchen" thing made Meadow want to gag.

They ate a salad instead. It was a good thing the Hillside Motel was in the middle of the forest. Or else they might've starved to death before ever getting there.

Ok, probably they wouldn't have. But still.

They rounded the bend and came across a bright neon sign. HILLSIDE MOTEL, it said. WHERE FUN GOES TO DIE. Wait no, that was the University of Chicago. Oops.

The building was old and broken-down and dilapidated. Oh, sure, it was also all fixed up and covered, but Meadow was an expert at disguises. Nothing got past them.

And they got past everything. They smirked. The place was perfect. "It'll be a pleasure doing business with you," they said to the building. And then they went inside.

Two girls were already sitting in the lobby. They smiled at them, then moved on to the front desk. There was a plaque on the surface. GRETCHEN, THE FRONT DESK SERVANT, it said. Hmm. Someone who Meadow assumed to be "Gretchen, the front desk servant" handed Meadow a room key. "Room 139," she said. She seemed slightly bored. Meadow headed up the staircase.

Room 139 had lots of shadows. They went back down the staircase.

"Hello," they smiled at the two girls. "How are you both enjoying the hotel so far?"

ok hiiiii

so i was kinda thinking...would u be open to shipping meadow and nicolette? maybe like a slower build to it tho

and yeah i get that meadow is supposed to be like..unfeeling and all...but mayyyybeeeee they could be a little different towards nico?

orrrr if u dont rly want to do that no worries. im kinda just curious lol

Hmm.. I suppose I would be open to trying? It will prob be a rather slow process though, as Nico (which, I love her name too btw) seems pretty sunshine-y, but maybe optimism would help bc I don't think Meadow is gonna really feel anything, though Ig they could later... but also, haha, pet peeve: overly cheery people. And seeing as Nico is slow to trust ppl and Meadow is extremely untrustworthy. I don't know, cuz on one hand, I like shipping ppl and would totally change things in order to do it which I suppose is totally not in the spirit of shipping but ah well, and on the other, I don't see how Meadow could feel anything for Nico unless there's like some respect mixed in too, or they're working for the same goal, which is like what exactly, or Nico somehow changes the way they feel?

ok now I'm done pointing out the flaws :) basically, sure, I'm in if you still are! (yes I'm a horrible shipper but to be fair it's exciting and why not)

Ok cool! I dont want to like pressure you into shipping them if u dont actually want to lol

But yeah I would say Nicolette is a good deal less cheery after the death of her sister, sooooo maybe that would work a little better :)

\Nico/

After sorting out the mess with my room, I decide to head down to the lobby, since I'm fairly certain I noticed a couple of people sitting around. On the way, I realize my stomach is growling. Oh dear. I haven't eaten since eleven o'clock this morning--no wonder.

There's a small cafe on the first floor, and I order a raspberry muffin and a black coffee. Alice, the cashier, smiles and asks me how I'm doing.

What a question. I'm not entirely sure, to be perfectly honest. I've been through a roller-coaster of emotions after Harriet...I even went through a phase of throwing fragile items at walls.

"I'm doing great!" I say instead, and plaster on a picture-perfect smile, taking a huge bite of my muffin.

When I arrive, three guests are talking to each other by a pair of turquoise sofas.

"How are you both enjoying the hotel so far?" a tall person with jet-black hair asks. I tap them on the shoulder.

"Erm...could I join you, perhaps?" I say quietly, clutching my coffee cup like a lifeboat.

Haha, yaaay got two peoples!

-Inanna Skye-

My brief wait is rewarded by a girl with silvery blond hair and blue eyes walks over and sits down, asking, "How's your day?"

"Oh, fairly good," I reply, sitting up in my chair and crossing my legs. "My room is quite, eh, pleasant. My cat, Echo, will probably have bunches of fun pouncing on all the bugs that are surely around in there. What about you?"

As the girl answers, another person wanders over. They waited quietly, waiting for the girl, Layla, I think her name is, to finish. Once she does, they sit down and saying, "Hello, how are you both enjoying the hotel so far?"

"Alright," I reply ahead of Layla. "My room has a shinned up rotten apple feel, but you two seem quite pleasant.  That's a good thing! I kinda want to check out the pool- see how wonderful or not wonderful it is."

I pause, letting Layla and (Meadow?) share what they both think.

@amari, good point! And no, you're not pressuring me :) Let's do it! I've been thinking and I think it'll be fun to write

*/Meadow Flowers*/

One of the girls - a blonde with big blue eyes - answered happily. "Alright. My room has a shinned up rotten apple feel, but you two seem quite pleasant. That's a good thing! I kinda want to check out the pool- see how wonderful or not wonderful it is."

Meadow nodded. "That's a good idea. Maybe we should all do that later."

They felt a tap, and turned to see a girl with green eyes at their shoulder. The newcomer had muffin crumbs all around their mouth, and clutched a cup of coffee nervously, eyes darting around the room. "Erm...could I join you, perhaps?" she asked.

Meadow nodded; the more people who could come to trust them, the better. They cracked a smile; "Of course! The more the merrier!" The new girl took a seat on one of the turquoise sofas, and Meadow realized they were the only person not sitting. They casually sat down on a sofa across from the other three. It wouldn't do to stand. It was important to appear comfortable with these people so they would know they could be comfortable with them, and standing made them seem like an outsider; untrustworthy and untrusting. But taking a seat right next to one of them would appear presumptuous, and might scare people off. This was the perfect balance.

Lazily, they crossed their legs, and stretched back. "Or do you all want to go visit the pool now?"

"Oh, fairly good," she replies. "My room is quite, eh, pleasant. My cat, Echo, will probably have bunches of fun pouncing on all the bugs that are surely around in there. What about you?"

“Well, I thought my room was pretty nice and standard. And my day is good so far,” I respond. After I finish talking, I notice someone.

"Hello, how are you both enjoying the hotel so far?" They ask.

"Alright," Inanna (I believe) replies. I nod in agreement. "My room has a shinned up rotten apple feel, but you two seem quite pleasant. That's a good thing! I kinda want to check out the pool- see how wonderful or not wonderful it is."

The other person nods. "That's a good idea. Maybe we should all do that later."

"Erm...could I join you, perhaps?" A new person asks.

Meadow(?) cracked a smile; "Of course! The more the merrier!"

The new girl took a seat, and Meadow did as well. "Or do you all want to go visit the pool now?"

“Yeah, how about we do that?” I ask, looking at everyone else. “I believe it's just around the back of the motel.” I get up. “So should we go?”

"So should we go?" the girl named Layla asks, referring to the pool. I nod.

"Sure." I answer quietly. "To swim or just to check it out?" I take another huge sip of my coffee, scalding my tongue. I hiss out a low noise in pain. The person with black hair glances back over at me, eyes concerned. They're way too attractive for their own good. I quickly look away, flushing. I was probably staring.

The others agree to go to the pool. "Sure." says the girl with the green eyes, quietly. "To swim or just to check it out?" She takes another huge sip of coffee, and hisses low in pain. She probably burned her tongue. I glance at her, trying to mirror concern in my eyes, and she looks back. I look away.

"Well, I didn't think to pack my swimsuit," I say. The truth is that I don't have one; I don't know how to swim, but no one needs to know that. "Let's just check it out."  We start walking to the pool, and I glance at everyone, realizing I don't know one important aspect of them. "Hey, by the way," I say. "What are your names? I'm Meadow."
