this is my third year doing nano, and the first year i've actually hit 50K! i ended up writing was more than i thought i'd be able to--i guess it helps to have an unreasonably long commute where i have nothing to do but write :P

but beyond any particular word count goal, i actually finished the first draft of my novel! sure, the quality isn't great and the ending's a bit rushed but it's THERE and that's all a first draft has to be.

i think i learned quite a bit this november. to just keep writing, even if you're writing a very rambly info dump, because you can polish it up later and it's more important to just get the ideas down. that it's okay to take a break if you need to, that it's okay to miss a day or five it means you won't hate your novel. that hamilton just hits different during nano. and to always, always, ALWAYS back up your work.

congrats to everyone who participated in nano, both those who saw it through to the end and those who stopped midway, both those who reached their word count goal and those who fell short. i'm so proud of you all for putting your words and your stories into the world. we did it! 

I MADE 75K ON THE LAST DAY OF THE MONTH :D
