Chatterbox: Inkwell

In the world of Tel’lien,(pronounced Te-lain) the world is separated into quadrants. In this story, we are in quadrant c.

When the world was crumbling and war-torn, an alliance of powerful and strong warriors created a safe place for everyone, but those people disagreed on how to run this place, so they separated into four groups. The most powerful and respected (or feared) people made sure to keep these people in line. They built a haven for the people where they could freely believe what they want and how they want to run things. If you didn’t someone didn’t like how they were living, they could go to the government and ask to see what the other quadrants were like. Life was good.

But then the government started...changing. And controlled the people, scared them into obeying. They started not caring, but if someone wanted to stop them, they could threaten-or kill-them. The people started fighting again, but tried to keep to to their own quadrants. And that led us to where we are.

In quadrant c, the world is separated into tiers. Tiers judged by character, appearances, and knowledge. Tier 1, tier 2, and tier 3.

All the kids go to school in tier 2. When the kids are 16, they are “tested”. Though, sometimes, the Council of quadrant c will make exceptions for brilliant (and brilliantly pretty) people that are younger. The kids are given situations through illusions that help the judges make their decisions. Then the judges make a decision and assign the kids their tier, job, and spouse. Then they go to the tier and home.

But little does the council know a rebellion is starting up, fueled by their anger and hatred for the government and the way their quadrant is run. Too bad they can’t get to the other quadrants, stop the council, or the government…or can they?

Hey everybody! This is an idea for a story I have, and was wondering if you guys like it! I was also wondering if you wanted to participate! I can do it as an rp, a solo write, or just do it about my charrie, Tayah. You can vote for which version you want. In 3-5 days (depending on how many people vote) I’ll count the votes and see which version I’ll do. Make sure you vote if you want to enter or see any of these! Thank you for reading this.

(P.s. sorry for the super long post, admins, thank you)

Part 4:

I was led into a beige room, not a big room, but not that small either. An expressionless woman sat behind a desk next to a big machine. Her face was dull, she didn’t really look anything but tired. Her voice sounded exactly like what you would expect, tired and unenthusiastic.

“Name?” She asked blankly.

“Tayah Omar-semay.”

“Previous tier?”

“3”

“Sit down,” she said, and gestured to a chair in the corner. It was also beige, and was covered in plastic wrap.It had cold, hard armrests and a small reclining attached ottomin. It had a grey machine next to it.

I sat down in the uncomfortable chair and the woman got up and pushed the chair back violently. It leaned back, and she attached a wire to my arm, and two to my head, and then clicked something on and the machine started beeping. Then she sat back down at her desk.

“What tier do you want to be in?”

“I don’t know…”The machine kept beeping steadily.

“What would you do if you were told to fight someone you loved because they did something wrong? Something that even you couldn’t understand.”

“Umm...fight them...but not kill them.”

She listened to the beeping, then asked, “What would you do if you were given the choice to save someone between you and someone you loved and you could only save one.”

“Theirs,” I said firmly.

“Are you brave?”

“Most of the time.”

“Are you strong?”

“Somewhat.”

She continued asking questions, and the machine never stopped beeping steadily. When she got to the last question, and I answered, she looked up at me.

“You...didn’t lie once.”

“What?”

“That machine would’ve beeped out of control if you lied. Everyone always lies at least once in the test.” She had stood up by now, and was walking over to me. She unhooked the machine.

“Follow me,” She said, and led me through a door behind her desk.

It led to a large black that lit up when I stepped in. I was given a mask, with a black screen on the eyes and a strap to tighten under my chin. It covered my mouth, and ears, but not the back of my head. Instead, there was another strap there.

“Okay,” she said, “you’re going to be given multiple situations and you’ll react accordingly. These will help us determine what job suits you best based on your actions. I’ll be able to see everything you do in the room around you. When I turn it on, it will feel so real, you’ll forget you’re in this room and will only know the place you see. Are you ready?”

“Sure?”

And the world lit up. I was in a destroyed building, and people were running at me, yelling. They held ferocious throwing daggers, and regular knives, the medal gleaming in the sun and dripping with blood. I looked around frantically for something to fight back with. I grabbed a piece of scrap metal from the wreckage of the building. I ran towards the people and knock out a few of them I spun around and knocked down the people coming from behind me. While I wasn’t paying attention, though, someone threw a dagger and it lodged itself in my leg. I stumbled back, but kept fighting. I fought them all off eventually, and found a place to sit amongst the rubble. I ripped the bottom off my shirt, and made a tourniquet for me leg. I left the dagger in, trying to stop the blood flow. I moaned as I sat there on the ground.

Then everything was black. The top of the mask, the part covering my eyes was taken off. I saw The woman standing there.

“Okay,” She told me, “that was impressive, but you’re going to have four more scenarios that feel just as real, and after each one, everything will go black, and I will ask you if you’re alright. Then the next scenario will appear. Got it?”

“As I’ll ever be, I guess.”

“Okay, here we go.”

Ugh! Late again! I’m so sorry! I also didn’t expect the test to take so long. This part is also a little shorter, so sorry about that. I’ll really try to post more often! Anyways, here it is:

Part 5:

The scenarios came and went, a forest fire, drowning, things like that. And then it was over.

“Great job, but there is still one last part of the test left. C’mon.”

She held out her hand and I took it after the mask was off.

I followed her to a door, again. This time it was black. She stopped me and looked into my eyes.

“Behind here is the acting portion of the test. There will be people on the council who you can’t see, but they can see you. They know about all of your answers and what you did in each scenario,” She paused, then continued, “I’ve never told anyone this, after 8 years here, you’re the first person I’ve ever told. But I trust that you’ll still be you, and you’ll be truthful. Got it?”

I was a little stunned, but after I shook off the surprise I nodded, and she opened the door.

We stepped in a carpeted room with white walls. I exhaled. I still get nervous for each new part, and it was no different now. But it was almost over. My new life would begin, right after this.

I didn’t know if I was ready.

Oh my gosh!! I’m sososososo sorry, I think I overestimate myself a little, but this is so late, and I’m so sorry. But school is up and running now, and so I think you should only expect one each week. I really wish I could do more, but I can’t. Anyways, here’s one of my personal favorite parts so far:

Part 6:

I looked around and let out a breath. The woman took a clipboard off the wall next to the door. She stepped into the corner and ushered me into the middle. I looked at her and stepped into the middle. I looked at the wall awkwardly and she looked down at the clipboard. I stood in the middle of the room awkwardly and looked over my shoulder at her. She looked up at me and I looked back at the blank wall. I shuttered slightly and the woman started speaking.

She said, “Pose.”

So I posed with my hand on my hip and my face serious.

“Can you do a few more?”

I changed poses three times.

“Okay, good job. Now sing and dance.”

I was slightly surprised by this and started swaying back and forth and humming. I started singing quietly, but got louder and dancing a little more. I stopped and scolded myself a little. I loved singing and dancing, but the song I sang for the judges was not my best-not even close, and the dancing wasn’t very emotional.

The woman nodded and said, “Great,” and paused as I laughed a little to myself.

Then they asked me a few more questions, but soon enough I was escorted back into the auditorium to await the news of which tier I would be in.

I sat down and Samie wasn’t there, but she came in soon, and we started talking quietly, just like the people around us were. We talked about how weird the test was, why it took so long, what we hated about test day and what we loved about it, stuff like that.

Then Malano and Kamiko stepped back onto the stage and Malano cleared his throat, and said excitedly, “Great job everyone! You did great, and all of you have completed your tests! You know what that means, your results, your job, tier, and spouse. Kamiko will announce them. You ready?”

There was a cheer and I let out a shaky breath, along with Samie and other kids in the crowd. Kamiko started calling alphabetically, and she called a spouse afterward.

I was only half paying attention, because I was almost positive I was going to be later.

Kamiko then called, “Cory Del-vahnn, previous tier: 2, age: 16, new job and tier: Nurse, tier 2, and his spouse, Sal’iemah Sulmuen, from tier 3, age: 15 and also becoming a nurse in tier 2. Again, Cory Del-Vahnn and Sal’iemah Sulmuen, tier 2, nurses.

Samie looked at, smiled her sweet smile, squealed, and did a small happy dance in her chair. I smiled back.

We sat in our chairs and waited. Kamiko called eventually, “Tayah Ovan-remay, previous tier: 3, age: 13, new job and tier: Actor, tier 1, spouse…”

The world seemed to slow down, almost stopped. I didn’t hear what Kamiko said next. Tier 1…? Did I want that? What about Dad? Wait, spouse? Was I ready for this. I was breathing rapidly when the world came flooding back. Samie was looking at me with a concerned smile. I sighed a little and she smiled wider.

Kamiko was repeating, “Again, that’s Tayah Ovan-remay, and her spouse, Mendax Nolbrant, Tier 1, actors.”

This was my fate, this was where I would be for the rest of my life, this was my life now.

Right?

Hey guys, soooo, I realized I made a kind of big mistake. For Cory and Samie I meant Nurses, not teachers. I can't believe I didn't notice this, and sorry about this mistake. Anyways, bye guys!

I changed it for you.

Part 7:

Mendax and I were guided to a double seat on the train and he looked me right in the eyes, his mouth resting in a slight smirk.

“I’m Mendax,” he said as he shook my hand and gestured for me to sit down.

“Tayah.”

The train started moving as he put his arm over my shoulder. The train stopped at tier 3 first, though I couldn’t see it since I was now on the opposite side of the train. I heard the doors at the other end of the train and chatter as footsteps echoed in the train station. I looked out the pod and tried to see my home one last time.

“Did you actually like tier 3?” Mendax asked.

“I mean, yeah, kinda. It just kinda felt like home, you know?”

“Uh-huh. Yeah, but just wait ‘til we get tier 1, it’ll be better.”

I nodded, but I didn’t really believe him. It wouldn’t be the same, I just didn’t think it would feel the way I did with dad.

“Can’t believe we’re actors. I can see why though, you’re beautiful.”

“Thanks,” I replied, and he said, and just kept chatting the whole ride, just talking as the train chugged forward.

The train slowed, and we stopped at tier 2, and got a glimpse of Samie with Cory, and they were laughing. I waved at her and smiled, but she didn’t see me. I turned back around and sat back down, slouching a little more. I knew I would be in tier 1 soon. I sat next to Mendax as the seemingly endless words and compliments streamed from his mouth, and the other couples in our pod talked, too. We rode over a little of the tier while riding to the train station, and I pressed my cheek to the side of the pod. I had never seen something so white in my whole life, there were tall towers and white buildings and floating objects stretching out in front of us. It was crazier than I could have imagined. There were fancy futuristic buildings everywhere. There were people floating around on different transportation objects. There were people walking on moving sidewalks below, and others walking up stairs that disappeared after they stepped onto the next step, and huge windows on basically every building.

Then we pulled into the train station, and I gasped. Mendax laughed at me a little while we pulled up to the train station. I should've guessed it was white, but it was so clean, it just surprised me. It was bright and a little blinding.

The doors opened and people stepped out. Mendax pulled me up and put his arm tightly around my waist as he walked me out. There were conversations and shoes squeaking on the white marble beneath our feet at the station as the kids poured out. Mendax’s hand slipped off my waist almost instantly as we stepped out, and he got a little lost in the crowd. I stopped and looked at myself in a shiny mirror that was on the wall. I looked at myself, my dress, my messy, crop filled hair, and knew, this was the last time I would look at myself like this, the last time I would really look at me just as myself. Because everything was about to change.
